Pearl River Delta

The Pearl River runs through Guangzhou, and then empties into the South China Sea in a bay between Hong Kong and Macau. The three cities form a sort of triangle.

Hong Kong was run by the British until 1997, and Macau was Portuguese until 1999. Today they are ‘Special Administrative Regions’ of China

adjacent to Guangdong

As SAR’s, they enjoy more autonomy.
