Peacock Group Driving Policies,

Practices & Tips for Safe Driving

Winter Version

GENERAL VEHICLE SAFETY RULES

Because vehicle accidents are a leading cause of work-related injuries and deaths, vehicle operation while in the course of you employment must display safe driving habits and not reflect exhibitions of speed or recklessness. Compliance with all local, state, and federal traffic laws is required.

You should drive defensively at all times by continually watching for hazardous conditions, understanding how to defend against them and taking action in time to avoid problems. Keep your eyes and attention on the road and others, and adjust your speed and driving to changing weather and traffic conditions.

Drivers Licenses and Driving Records Policy

No employee may operate any company vehicle unless specifically authorized, and it is part of your job function. All employees who, as a part of their duties, have need to operate vehicles on public roads must hold a valid, properly classed California driver's license and possess a driving record acceptable to management. Failure to do so may result in loss of driving privileges, change of assignment, or disciplinary action up to and including discharge. Employees are responsible for any moving violations and parking tickets that they may incur during employment. Employees who as part of their duties drive company vehicles must promptly (The same or next working day) report any parking tickets received in a company vehicle and any moving violations regardless as to whether the ticket was received in a company vehicle or a personal vehicle; personal time or company time.

Alcohol & Drug Policy

The consumption of alcohol or drugs (even over- the-counter medications and prescriptions), can slow reactions, blur vision, reduce ability to determine distance, and impair judgment. It is, therefore, a violation of our safety policy for any employee to operate a vehicle with alcohol or any illegal drugs in their system, or while impaired by prescription drugs, or over-the-counter medications

Seat Belt Policy

Employees are required to wear seat belts at all times when operating or riding in an employer-owned vehicle and/or when operating or riding as a passenger in any other vehicle during the course of their employment.

Parking Policy• Service vehicles are not

to be used after hours or for personal business. For employees who take their vehicles home at night, vehicles shall be stored off public streets. Company vehicles should be stored in your garage, or at a minimum in your driveway or similar off street parking.

Accident Policy

The employee is responsible to safely operate company vehicles. It is our policy that if you are in an at-fault accident, you are responsible to pay for the deductible amount of $500.00. By signing this company policy, you are agreeing to pay $500.00 should you be involved in an at-fault accident while operating a company vehicle.

(NOTE TO EMPLOIYERS: This policy is legal and enforceable, up to a point. You may require your employees to pay the deductible, and require that they pay this deductible. However, if the employee decides to quit rather than to pay the deductible, you may not hold back this deductible from their final paycheck. )

DRIVE TO STAY ALIVE

• THE #1 LEADING CAUSE OF “AT WORK” DEATHS IS VEHICLE ACCIDENTS.

• MOST OF US BEGAN DRIVING WHEN WE WERE TEENAGERS AND AFTER SO MANY YEARS, TEND TO REINFORCE POOR ROAD HABITS.

DRIVE TO STAY ALIVE• Lousy Weather, Rush Hour Traffic,

and construction zones are all challenges that require good driving skills. To help yourself stay SAFE, always wear your safety belt, and follow these next few tips!

TIPS FOR CONSTRUCTION ZONES

•Watch for road signs, workers, and detours.

•Expect to encounter slow trucks and other construction traffic.

•Reduce your speed to stay SAFE.

• From 6:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. drivers may be sleepy or trying to make up for lost time. Stay aware and try to get an early start.

• From 4:00 p.m. To 7:00 p.m. drivers may be thinking about getting home and work stresses. Don’t let the cars around you control your driving. RELAX and adjust to a SAFE speed.

TIPS FOR RUSH HOUR

WINTER DRIVING TIPS• Leave early and take it slow.• Reduce your speed,

especially on bridges, which may freeze before the road does.

• Avoid un-necessary stops. You may loose momentum and/or control.

• Increase the distance between you and the car in front of you by at least 4 seconds to give yourself adequate time to stop.

MAINTAIN YOUR VEHICLE• Get regular oil changes

and tune-ups.• Fill the antifreeze in the

winter and coolant in the summer.

• Maintain your breaks and shocks.

• Fill the wiper fluid and check the wipers.

• Check tire pressure and tread.

• Check lights and signals.

Drive safely to ensure your

family, friends and yourself that

you’ll return

home safely.
