A retriever is a dog traditionally bred to retrieve something. Not rocket science, then.

The retriever group is the most popular group of dog in the US, UK and Canada.

According to the Federation Cynologique Internationale, this group of dog is divided

into retrievers, flushing dogs and water dogs.

This type of dog is very popular as a pet, although it was originally bred to retrieve

game without damaging it. Hence their soft mouths and ability to please, learn and obey.

Many dogs from this group have loomed large in the history books, with various British monarchs including Prince Albert, King Edward VII and King George V taking a

particular shining to the clumber spaniel...
