    Patient-Centered Outcomes ResearchDefined

Patient-Centered Outcomes Research (PCOR) helpspeople and their caregivers communicate and makeinformed health care decisions, allowing their voicesto be heard in assessing the value of health care

    options.

    Patient-Centered Outcomes ResearchDefined

This research answers patient-centered questionssuch as:

Given my personal characteristics, conditions and

preferences, what should I expect will happen to me? What are my options and what are the potential benefits

    and harms of those options?

What can I do to improve the outcomes that are most

important to me? How can clinicians and the care delivery systems they

work in help me make the best decisions about myhealth and healthcare?

    Methodology Report

The mandate for PCORIs Methodology Committee is todefine methodological standards and a translation table toguide health care stakeholders towards the best methods

    for patient-centered outcomes research (PCOR).

Rigorous methods are essential to building trust in researchfindings.

This report (which will continue to be revised and improvedover time) is the necessary catalyst for scientificallyrigorous, patient-centered outcomes research that caninform decision-making.
