The list provided gives an accurate amount of technology devices in each school. Each school has at least: over 150 workstations, 8 printers, 7 switches, 2 servers, and 2 laptops.

The technology plan also gives a summary of the types of connectivity, amount

of student computers provided in each school, types of Windows domains, and Email and Anti-virus servers provided

*Each school also now has laptop carts each with 30 laptops and clickers.

Describe the technology inventory needed to improve student academic achievement through 2010 including, but not limited to: Technology equipment and networking capacity Software used for curricular support and filtering Technology maintenance policy and plans Telecommunications services Technical support Facilities infrastructure Other services

There were several items promised in this section, and while most of them were fulfilled, we have yet to receive every item. Among the items promised consist of attaining computers-on-wheels, use of Study Island, and the purchase of primary math and language arts software. We did not receive 12-13 computers in each computer lab or subscription services: Reading A-Z and United Streaming. The district also sought to and achieved updated WAN to increase bandwidth and link all sites together, centralized firewalls, servers, and email, upgraded inter school phones, increased amount of cameras, and a new phone system for throughout each school. The remaining items have not been accomplished at this time and include a voice broadcasting system, wireless hot spots, and ceiling mounted LCD projectors to classrooms.

73. Describe how the district integrates assistive technology devices into the

network to accommodate student needsThe tech plan says that the district will use a large monitor for visually impaired

students. I had a visually impaired student and never received a larger monitor. Headphones and speech-to-text voice recognition devices are also provided upon request.

The district does upgrade lab computers approximately every 4

years but does not always consider seven year-old machines obsolete.

1. List the filtering method(s) used.(NOTE: Be specific as this is a federal mandate.) Yes an extensive list of filtering methods is provided. The district also updates content filtering using Sonic Wall Internet Appliance at each school with a yearly subscription.

2. Identify the Acceptable Use Policies (AUP) used for students and staff and include a copy of the AUPs with the submission of this technology plan.

The AUP is provided in Appendix A and details the goals of the technology department intended for students and staff. It also gives an extensive list of standards for use of computer networks and behaviors that will not be tolerated.*The tech plan says that the Acceptable Use contract is provided and it is not in the actual plan, but parent’s are required to sign this contract at the beginning of each school year in order for their child to participate in technology projects using the internet

3. Explain how students are educated about online safety awareness.The contracts are discussed with students and signed by parents (the forms are sent home in the beginning of the year in a packet of papers for parents to fill out). The Prosecutor’s Office does present a parent workshop for on-line safety.

4. Provide information on how parental resources regarding online safety are made available to parents.

A list of common procedures used by teachers to integrate technology into curriculum. It does state that collaborative time is provided between technology and classroom teachers, which is not. This is the only bullet out of 11 that is not accurate.b. Provide a summary of teacher and library media personnel proficiency in

the use of technology within the district.This statement is accurate, while the degree of technology knowledge varies amongst teachers, all classroom teachers use the computer to track attendance, do report cards, and have an e-mail account. It also states that most teachers embrace technology and use it in the planning and execution of lessons, which is true. Finally, it states that Smart Boards were recently acquired and more hands-on training needs to be provided. (We had a brief session at a recent in-service for 2nd grade teachers only on using Smart Boards).

* Yes the district indicates the need for further teacher training in technology areas including the Smart Board. The district had a brief training on the use of Clickers at the district-wide in-service but no follow up sessions or support were provided. The district also stated the need for Computers on Wheels for the 5th-6th grade school and each school did receive a laptop cart, but had little to no training. Finally, the district states the need for subscription services and Education City was just acquired for K-4 schools in the areas of Language Arts, Math, and Science.

IV. THREE-YEAR GOALS AND OBJECTIVESPage # A. History

12-13 1. List the goals from the 2004-07 plan. *14 goals were listed, each with 2 accompanying objectives. Most of the goals sounded realistic but some seemed like they would be hard to attain, especially back in 2004-2007.

2. Evaluate each goal from the previous plan, in one or two sentences, detailing each goal's success, or reasons for continuation, or issues preventing its success.

attained in the classroom. Some of the goal's evaluations seemed a little broad and unrealistic for teachers to be expected to complete. The plan mentions EBSCO database In several of the goal evaluations and I have never heard about use of this database nor have I received instruction in how to do so.

Page # B. Goals and Objectives for 2007-201015-16 1. List and support the goals that continue from the ’04-‘07 plan.

* Almost all goals from the '04-'07 goals were listed with the exception of # 14 dealing with learning and applying fitness concepts and skills2. Modify goals or write new goals to meet the needs identified from the

assessments. Goals for '07-'10 should support district need and align with the state plan.

Goal # 14 was modified to All teachers will become proficient in technology to improve achievement. The objectives state that they do this by using Smart Boards to integrate technology in the classroom, which teachers do through the use of newly acquired Smart Boards (The PTA for each school has bought Smart Boards so there is not an equal amount between schools). Another objective was to access and analyze student data and this can currently be achieved through the use of the clickers that were provided for each school, however there was only 1 brief training session. This can also be achieved by using Study Island which ample training has been provided but only grades 3-6 use this program. The third objective is for teachers to have a web page and while this is encouraged, it is not required. Finally they mention using EBSCO, which again, I have never heard of in my district. Two additional goals were also listed. Goal 15 states that the district will provide subscription services, which has been attained through the purchase and use of Study Island and Education City. Finally, goal 16 says that the district will purchase computers on wheels for the 6th grade and this goal was achieved over and beyond, because every grade level in every school has access to a set of computers on wheels.

3. Add to the goals the specific objectives for integrating technology to improve student academic achievement aligned with NJ Core Curriculum Content Standards (including software and other electronically delivered learning materials). Also, include a timeline for such integration and the corresponding measures (also known as indicators) that are evidence that

Each goal and objective stated in the timeline section that it was ongoing with the exception of 15.1 and 16.1, which are scheduled to be addressed in 08 09 and 10 It also states that the people responsible are administrators and certified staff. The documentation for each goal are also realistic and are evident in the various projects displayed in the computer labs and media center.

*For 2007-08 school year the cost of replacement computers, servers, supplies/materials, and contracted services were stated.*For 2008-09 the cost of replacement computers and contracted services were projected to go up, while the cost of servers went down and supplies/materials stayed the same. Two new expenses: installation of WAN and subscription services were incurred.*For 2009-2010 costs in all areas besides servers (back up from 08/09) are projected to remain the same as 2008-09. The cost of installation of WAN is not listed for 09-10 and the cost of a mobile was added.

Several personnel were listed, however to my knowledge, the District Director of Elementary services coordinates all professional development. There may be input from the other faculty and staff regarding professional development issues and planning district-wide in-services.

It is stated that professional development will be provided in several areas: Smart Board, Web Quests, Outlook Express, On-Line Resources, and Study Island. Professional development was provided in all of these areas with the exception of Web Quests.4. How ongoing, sustained professional development for all staff will

be provided to further the effective use of technology in the classroom or library media center.

This is definitely an area of weakness. The plan states that the professional development is provided by teachers (technology and classroom) and outside consultants and that administrators may attend these workshops. It also states that ongoing assistance will be provided but not specific workshops or sessions to discuss problems or questions that may be encountered when using these new technologies in the classroom. It is up to those people to address these problems on their own time. 5. The professional development opportunities and resources that exist

* Where does your district do well?My district did well in achieving new goals and attaining and upgrading technology equipment. When I first came to the district that I teach in I considered it pretty behind technological times. This is already my third

year and since I started we have switched to electronic attendance/report cards, electronic system for student lunch, attained numerous Smart Boards for each school, a lap top cart for each school, and a clicker system for each school. They have also updated many teacher and student computers. I think that this is a lot to achieve in a short time.

* Where does your district not do as well?My district does not do as well in the area of professional development. We do have four district-wide in-services and most of the workshops either do not apply to many of the teachers or the school does not provide enough reinforcement or follow-up. It is almost like they introduce you to the concept, idea, or tools; you use them; and then nobody ever talks about it again. I also think it would be more beneficial to offer specialized workshops for special education teachers.

* What was promised in the first year that was not delivered?An objective under one of the new goals was for “teachers to use EBSCO and other data bases to better plan their lessons and for professional development.” I have never even heard EBSCO mentioned, never mind been given training on how to use this database or ideas on how it may be helpful to my classroom.

* What new elements will your district have to consider?My district may have to consider having less money available due to our nation’s economy and especially considering that our local budget has not passed in several years.
