Using a spring lock, The Parrot Bebop 2 Talon snaps closed around an item upon contact. It can also be

set to open with an integrated spring lock system. The talon is printed with minimal supports and light

post-print clean up, and it is easily assembled with readily available springs, screws, washers, and nuts.

To make the talon requires the following parts:

Printed Parts

o Parrot Bebop 2 UAM (or Parrot Bebop 2 UAM Counterbalance)

o Parrot Bebop 2 Upper Talon

o Parrot Bebop 2 Lower Talon

o Parrot Bebop 2 Inner bushing

Hardware

o (1) #8-32 x 1” Pan head Screw

o (1) #8 washer

o (1) #8-32 nut

o (2) #6-32 x 1” Pan head Screw

o (2) #6-32 narrow nut

o (1) Extension spring (.25ish” diameter 1ish” length (un-extended)) I got mine from

www.harborfreight.com, here is another location:

o (1) modified compression spring (.15” diameter from standard click pen)

If following recommended print settings (.15mm to .2mm layer thickness, .15 % infill) the fully

assembled Talon weighs just 35 grams and can pick up items several times its weight. The Talon mounts

to the Parrot Bebop 2 underbody UAM (a modified version of Kirby Downey’s Bebop 2 Drone Bottom

Mount, https://www.myminifactory.com/object/bebop-2-drone-template-17450). Also included in this

package is the Parrot Bebop 2 underbody UAM counterbalance mount, which has a location to place up

to 10 US pennies to counterbalance the drone depending on load requirements

ASSEMBLY PROCEDURE:

STEP 1 – Take the pen spring and cut it down to ¼” length.

Using this newly modified spring, place it inside the inner

hole of part “Parrot Bebop 2 Upper Talon”. This spring acts

as the catch spring for the Talon assembly.

Step 2 – Place the part “Parrot Bebop 2

Lower Talon” inside its home slot on the

upper talon. While holding in place the

spring must be compressed slightly. Then

insert the part “Parrot Bebop Inner

Bushing” and an #8-32 x 1” screw through

the hinge hole. Secure in place by placing

a #8 washer and a tightening an #8-32 nut

(locknut or locktite with standard nut can

be used) onto the hinge screw

*Assembly tip* A light sanding and some

Bike chain (Teflon ) lube on the moving

parts particularly the Inner bushing piece

will help the system function better.

STEP 3 – Rotate the lower Talon part to

close the talon and install the Extension

spring by sliding the hooked ends into the

holes in the part as can be seen in Figure 3.

STEP 4 – Install the Talon Assembly onto

the Parrot Talon UAM by lining up the two

thru holes and inserting 2x #6-32 x 1”

screws. Tighten these screws in place with

two #6-32 narrow hex nuts.

STEP 5 – Snap Parrot UAM onto Bebop and

enjoy!
