BACHELOR OFINDIGENOUS EDUCATIONProviding a holistic First Nations teaching perspective, the Indigenous education program from First Nations University of Canada provides tremendous opportunity whether you want to teach elementary or secondary education.

The program is generalist in approach and emphasizes language and arts and requires a concentration in Indigenous education. Specifi c Indigenous education courses have been designed to introduce teachers to the unique needs of First Nations students.

BACHELOR OFSCIENCE IN NURSINGThe U of S College of Nursing has partnered with Parkland College and Sunrise Health Region to deliver world class distributed nursing education. Through the use of distributed learning technology, students in Yorkton are able to learn where they live.

The Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) is a non-direct entry four-year degree program, which includes a pre-professional year of university level courses, followed by three years of nursing education and clinical practice opportunities. Admission to the program is a two-step process.

BACHELOR OFSOCIAL WORKThe BSW program from the University of Regina emphasizes preparing students to gain the skills necessary to counsel individuals and groups, develop and administer programs, empower community groups, conduct social

research, analyze programs, policies and issues, and develop and implement problem solving strategies. The program is generalist in approach and will prepare you to work with minority and disadvantaged groups in urban, rural and remote areas.


FIRST YEAR & DISTANCE DELIVERYYou can also take the entire fi rst year of an undergraduate degree from the University of Regina or University of Saskatchewan at Parkland College in Yorkton, SK. AGRICULTURE TECHNICIAN

Learn common skills for modern agricultural operations: computer training, keeping accurate business records, and using up-to-date GPS technology. Focus on either crop or livestock production. Whatever your choice, you’ll spend at least half of your time putting theory into practice.

CONTINUING CARE ASSISTANT

Learn the fundamentals required to work in care homes, home care and community health centers. Full-time and part-time courses are available. The program consists of theory courses, lab skills, and practicum placements in special care facilities and home care.

EDUCATIONAL ASSISTANT

Learn the knowledge and skill development needed to assist classroom teachers in inclusive educational settings with children and youth who have diverse learning needs. This program combines theory and practical application for elementary and secondary age students in the K-12 school system.

EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION

Broaden your understanding of children’s physical, social, cognitive, creative and emotional development. You will also develop an understanding of the importance of play as a vehicle for learning.

ELECTRICIAN

This program provides entry level skill training. You will learn how to make electrical installations and perform maintenance duties according to industry standards.

EMERGENCY MEDICAL RESPONDER

Recognized by the Saskatchewan College of Paramedics, this certifi cate prepares students with the necessary knowledge and skills in an emergency to help sustain life, reduce pain, and minimize the consequences of injury or sudden illness until the next level of health care personnel takes over.

ENTREPRENEURSHIP & SMALL BUSINESS

Provides practical business knowledge and skill development needed to start and manage a small business. Upon successfully completing the program, you will have a comprehensive business plan based on your own business idea.

FIREFIGHTING

If you’re looking for a hot job in municipal or industrial fi refi ghting, this is the place to start. This unique and comprehensive program provides preparation for entry-level career positions. Our program curriculum exceeds National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) requirements including more practice runs and hands-on activities.

HEAVY EQUIPMENT TRUCK & TRANSPORT TECHNICIAN

Learn basic training in two high-demand mechanical trades at once. Heavy duty equipment technicians work on large mobile equipment—bulldozers, cranes, graders, loaders and earthmovers used in construction, mining, forestry and more. Truck and transport mechanics work on trucks, buses and highway transport vehicles for dealers, garages and transportation companies.

MULTI-MECHANICAL TRADES

Combine classroom instruction and hands-on shop time. Learn how to assemble, repair, service and maintain equipment in these mechanical trades: Heavy Equipment, Truck & Transport, Agricultural Machinery, Automotive Service.

OFFICE ADMINISTRATION

Formerly known as Offi ce Education, this one-year certifi cate program provides knowledge and skill development related to the business offi ce environment, with an emphasis on computer applications. Practical, hands-on training will prepare you for the demands and rewards of functioning in the modern offi ce.

POWER ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN (FOURTH & THIRD CLASS)

Power engineering technicians help keep power plants running safely and effi ciently. A shortage of certifi ed technicians means job opportunities have never been better. Fourth Class graduates can go directly into the workforce or pursue their Third Class certifi cate and beyond. You could work in the oil patch, mining, manufacturing, energy, health and other industries. It’s a physical job that requires problem-solving skills and a knack for working with machinery.

PRIMARY CARE PARAMEDIC

This one-year certifi cate program emphasizes authentic hands-on training in pre-hospital emergency care, with both hospital and ambulance practicums. Students will learn to perform physical assessments of the various body systems. You will also be able to recognize and manage medical and trauma injuries, and common cardiac and respiratory emergencies.

WELDING

Get paid to play with fi re. Learn on state-of-the-art equipment and one-of-a-kind projects in our Canadian Welding Bureau certifi ed shops, and write your CWB test before you graduate. You will receive training in multiple welding processes, operating fabrication equipment, using blueprints, general shop practice and shop safety.

Adult Basic Education

Essential Skills

ADULT 10, ADULT 12 & GED, GRADE 12 ONLINEAdult basic education provides educational opportunities to those who have completed high school and wish to upgrade specifi c classes, those would like to upgrade their literacy skills, and individuals who haven’t completed high school.

Complete your Adult 10, Adult 12 or GED in a face-to-face setting. Daytime classes are held at all locations for ABE classes. GED is also available as an evening class at the Yorkton Campus in October and March.

If face-to-face isn’t an option, our online grade 12 courses are designed with convenience in mind and can be taken wherever you are. You can take one course or complete several at a time, and study at your own pace.

ENGLISH LANGUAGE CLASSES FOR NEWCOMERS TO CANADAParkland College’s English Language Training program will assist Newcomers to Canada in improving their speaking, reading, listening, and writing skills in English. Students of all Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) levels are welcome to advance their skills with a qualifi ed English Language teacher.

As a Parkland College student, your studies will follow the Canadian Language Benchmarks (CLB). The CLB describes the different skill levels of adults who are learning English as a second language. Currently the Parkland College English Language classes include instruction for people from CLB 1-8.

WORKPLACE TRAINING & MENTORSHIP PROGRAMSEssential Skills are needed for success in work, learning and life. They are the foundational skills that make it easier to learn all other skills. A strong foundation in Essential Skills can help people perform tasks required by their occupation, provide people with foundation for learning other skills, and enhance peoples’ ability to be innovative and adapt to workplace change.

It’s hard to miss Parkland College’s new Trades and Technology Centre as you drive through Yorkton on Highway 9. Since the fi rst steel beams sprung up last August, the facility has quickly taken shape in anticipation of opening for classes in the next school year.

At 29,000 square feet – roughly half the size of an American football fi eld – the Trades and Technology Centre stands out from the surrounding 20-acre plot donated by the City of Yorkton. A huge 10,000-square-foot multi-purpose trades shop anchors the northern end of the building. With rafters towering 40 feet above the concrete fl oor, the shop is the most recognizable feature of the new building.

A state-of-the-art power engineering lab is the main feature at the southern end. Until now, the College’s power engineering students have had to travel to Saskatoon for three weeks of hands-on lab training. The inclusion of this high-tech lab will allow these students to take the program from start to fi nish in Yorkton.

In between the trades shop and the power engineering lab, the Trades and Technology Centre houses a welding and fabrication shop, a science lab, six classrooms, study/meeting rooms, an administration area. When the facility opens in September, the next generation of power engineers, heavy duty mechanics, agriculture

machinery technicians, and welders will begin training there.

Parkland College is committed to bringing innovative and diverse training to prepare the Parkland region for continued growth and the jobs of the future. As the doors of the Trades and Technology Centre open this fall, students will have more access than ever before to quality post-secondary education in the Parkland region. It marks an incredible milestone for the College, the community, and the province as a whole, and a great opportunity for youth to succeed without leaving home.

Electronic and downloadable application forms are available online at apply.parklandcollege.sk.ca, and the paper forms can also be picked up at any Parkland College location.

Parkland College accepts applications until the fi rst day of classes, as long as space is available and you satisfy the admission requirements. Applications for most programs are processed in the order they are received; the sooner you submit your application, the better

your chances of getting accepted. Once a program fi lls up, we have a wait list. Prerequisites for most programs are listed on our website and in the admissions chart on Page 6 & 7 of this guide.

Once your program entrance requirements have been met you will receive an acceptance letter shortly outlining program, tuition and scholarship details. You will also be asked to pay a tuition deposit to secure your seat.

How To Apply ScholarshipsStudents who are graduating high school and/or will be entering their fi rst year of full-time studies in post-secondary studies at Parkland College in the fall of 2015 are invited to apply for Entrance Scholarships. Students must meet the requirements specifi ed for each scholarship in order to be eligible. In 2014-15 over $180,000 was awarded.
