Movement Disorders Vol. 3, No. I, 1988. pp. 95 8 1988 Movement Disorder Society Book Review Parkinson’s Disease (Advances in Neurology, Vol. 45)’ by M. D. Yahr and K. J. Bergmann, Raven Press, New York, 1987,640 pp, $98.50. This volume represents the published papers of most of the reports presented at the 8th International Symposium on Parkinson’s Disease (PD), held in New York in June 1985. ’kiditionally, the proceedings of the last several symposia in this series has been published as a separate volume in the Advances in Neurology series. Research in PD is growing. This monograph not only has more pages than its predecessor symposia volumes, but the page size is larger and the text is printed in double columns and smaller typeface. Thus, this monograph is a hefty, meaty tome. The quality of production is high, the index generous, and the figures well reproduced. The book is divided into several sections: pathology (in which one can find Olson and his colleagues’ report on the transplantation of autologous adrenal medulla into the last two of four patients so investigated), MA0 and MPTP, variants, autonomic function, epidemi- ology and etiology, sensorimotor dysfunction, cognitive and affective dysfunction, levo- dopa therapy, and pharmacotherapeutic trends. As with other symposia volumes, many of the papers are published subsequently in journals, but a large number have not been pub- lished elsewhere. Moreover, having papers on parkinsonism bound together in a single volume makes it a convenient reference source. One can easily predict that workers in the field of parkinsonism will want this book in their library. It will be a valuable edition. Stanley Fahn, M.D. 95

Book Review

Parkinson’s Disease (Advances in Neurology, Vol. 45)’ by M. D. Yahr and K.

The book is divided into several sections: pathology (in which one can find Olson and his colleagues’ report on the transplantation of autologous adrenal medulla into the last two of four patients so investigated), M A 0 and MPTP, variants, autonomic function, epidemi- ology and etiology, sensorimotor dysfunction, cognitive and affective dysfunction, levo- dopa therapy, and pharmacotherapeutic trends.
