P&C ASSOCIATIONParent Class RepresentativeThis year the P&C are asking for one parent from each classroom to volunteer for the role of Parent Class Representative.The Parent Class Representative would be responsible for co-ordinating the parents in this class area to run one fundraising activity during the school year.The P&C fundraising co-ordinator would be available for any guidance and assistance as required.

The role would also assist your class teachers with other communications with parents should the need arise. In the past, some class parents have coordinated a contact list for all wishing to be involved.

OBERTHUR PRIMARY SCHOOLYears 4 and 5 Approximately 15 minutes per night or about 1 hour per week PLUS 15 – 30 minutes per night silent reading Monday to Thursday.

Homework in the middle primary years is most effective when the teacher develops a simple and effective routine for setting out the homework requirements, distributing the homework and marking it. A diary/journal (or similar) will be used to assist with this aim.

Homework should be the vehicle for children, parents and teachers to work together to assist the child's development. Parents are not expected to teach new work.

In the middle years of primary schooling, homework should provide children with practice and reinforcement opportunities, and introduce them to the process of investigating and researching independently.

Reading: minimum 15 minutes Monday – Thursday should be reading novels but also a variety of other material both fiction and non-fiction.Reading response: once a week – choice of responses

Some children will have Spelling words and/or Mental Maths practice on a needs basis.

A normal homework week is Monday to Thursday. Children are not expected to complete homework on Fridays, weekends or public holidays, although they may choose to complete assigned work during that time.

RationaleHomework is purposeful out of class learning that seeks to enhance the extent to which each child benefits from their education.

Switch off the T.V.•Siblings need to respect that those engaged in homework should not be disturbed.•Show a genuine interest in your child's homework and become involved, but refrain

from doing it for them.•Establish a homework routine and be aware of homework procedures e.g. Reading

Folder and Homework Diary, Spelling Journal.•Ensure that your child has the tools necessary to complete the homework e.g. pens, pencils, calculator, ruler, eraser, glue, scissors and paper.•Have an atlas and dictionary in the home.•Be willing to make the occasional visit to the school and/or public library with your

child.•Keep in touch with your child’s teacher, especially if difficulties are experienced.Note: Supervised access to the Internet may assist students engaged in research

tasks but should not be considered essential.

Literacy and Numeracy covered during the year should equip students to tackle these tests.We will do mini-tests set out like the NAPLAN papers so students are familiar with the types of questions and the format of the papers.

When dropping off or picking up students please pay close attention to the rules relating to the roads in the school vicinity:

Blue Kiss’n’Ride bays – driver must stay in car and wait for students to enter vehicle from kerbside. This does not mean wait for ten minutes. If student/s have not come within a couple of minutes, move on and park in a white bay or drive around and come back.

Do not double park in Nicholls Crescent. This causes huge problems. Move on and park in a white bay or come around again.

Do not stop vehicles on the opposite side of Nicholls Crescent – there are No Standing signs.

Do not drive through or park in the school carpark to drop off or pick up. It is dangerous to do so.

Melville Rangers visit periodically – non-compliance with signs and rules can result in a $70 fine.

MONEY COLLECTION:

When sending money for payment for excursions/incursions, special events etc please note that there is a week long window for collection for each planned event. Please let the office know if this causes any difficulty.

Lump sum payments can be made at the start of the year to cover any payments. This can relieve the necessity of finding smaller amounts of money at shorter intervals during the year.

Keep your desk and tray tidy and keep

the classroom tidy.

Put your hand up if you want to say

something or ask f or help.

Use 30cm voices in the classroom.

Listen when others are talking and wait

for your turn.

The positive reinforcements include:School - Virtues Vouchers, Merit Certificates, Class AwardsClassroom - Encouragement & Praise, Stickers, Group Points etc

There is a 7 stage procedure for children who do not abide by the class/school rules.

A whole school behaviour management policy has been established . This policy includes both incentives for good behaviour and consequences for students who violate class and/or school rules.
