WHAT IS A PARENT RESOURCE CENTER?

• A specific place where parents, volunteers and students can gather to learn, share information, volunteer and promote and support learning at home. • A welcoming environment where parents see as a

place of their own, a place where everyone feels safe and where resources are available to them.

GOALS OF A PARENT RESOURCE CENTER

•To promote family engagement in children’s education at home and at school.•To foster collaborative relationships between families, the school and the community.

WHAT PARENT RESOURCE CENTERS CAN PROVIDE (YEAR 1)

• Resources and Support • Assist parents with strategies to support learning at home• Lending library (leveled texts, We Both Read Books, Keep

Books)• Educational information/brochures • Resource list for community agencies• Adult learning resources (Rosetta Stone)• Parent Engagement resources (Ready Rosie)• Meeting space for parent groups or workshops• Location for parent-teacher or parent-principal meetings• Waiting area• Listening stations (audio books)• Volunteer activities (making copies, cutting, etc.)Adapted from Fairfax County Public Schools, Parent Center Guide, 2012
