Date VISITING INSTITUTE DETAILS INSTRUMENT'S NAME NO.

We are all pleased that department of SAIF/CIL/UCIM is excelling well beyond expectations. Since the department with new instruments and techniques provides wider service to a numerous educational institutions and industries that lack significant instrumentation facilities. Indeed, without any distinction, both internal and external users can be allowed to avail this facility with permission as per guidelines. On our part at the University has also provided funds out of PURSE programme for several Sophisticated Instruments and do our utmost to further improve the facilities and services. With the support of all researchers, I am sure that this department will be enhanced further to provide a comprehensive assistant that enables researcher to serve poor livings in the country.

Vice Chancellor

On behalf of the University and on my own behalf, I have great pleasure in welcoming all researchers to the Sophisticated Analytical Instrumentation Facility (SAIF)/Central Instrumentation Laboratory (CIL)/ University Center for Instrumentation and Micro Electronics (UCIM) of the Panjab University.

The Department of Science & Technology is supporting this center by providing liberal funds and it is a central facility with state-of-art sophisticated analytical instruments to cater the needs of faculties and research scholars in and out of the Panjab University.

Prof. RAJ KUMAR

Dear all,

Our department has been providing four different assistances: instrumentation facility to characterize molecules and materials, workshop facility to fabricate and repair analytical instruments required for researchers, and post graduation courses, M. Tech (Instrumentation) and M.Sc (Instrumentation), to improve knowledge of young researcher on instruments basics and utilizations and visiting our Labs.

Department has been proud of its record of dedicated and fast services in promoting quality of research and excellence. Moreover, department has bestowed with high quality expertize, who have rich industrial experiences and a passion for turning ideas into reality. Thus, on behalf of the Department and on my own, I invite young and experienced researchers to make use of central instrumentation facilities available with us to characterize your materials from a molecular level!THANK YOU!

Prof. Surinder Kumar Mehta

Accordingly, department was named as Sophisticated Analytical Instrumentation Facility (SAIF), Central Instrumentation Laboratory (CIL) and University Center For Instrumentation and Micro Electronics (UCIM), respectively. The Department of Science & Technology (DST) and Panjab University have been bearing these centers by providing generous financial support.

ABOUT PANJAB UNIVERSITY

Panjab University is one of the oldest Universities in India. It has a long tradition of pursuing excellence in teaching and research in science and technology, humanities, social sciences, performing arts and sports. The Panjab University, with its 78 teaching and research departments besides 4 chairs for the research on the main campus at Chandigarh, has 188 affiliated/constituent colleges spread over Punjab and Chandigarh besides Regional Centres at Muktsar, Ludhiana, Hoshiarpur and Kauni. In addition, there is the Vishveshawaranand Vishva Bandhu Institute of Sanskrit and Indological Studies (VVBIS&IS) at Hoshiarpur.

SAIF, formerly known as RSIC at Panjab University Chandigarh was incepted in the earlier years of the 6th plan. The complete facilities of SAIF, CIL and UCIM are working in unison in the service of research and also for imparting practical training to the students through workshops. The Centre also undertakes the design, fabrication and repair of electronic instruments required by students and teachers from the University and the colleges around. It also runs training programmes in technical skills for the benefit of scientific community and associated laboratory staff from different Institutions. Our facilities are .Instrumentation Facility, Workshop Facility, Visiting SAIF Labs, P.G Courses.

POST GRADUATE PROGRAMS AT

The University Center of Instrumentation & Micro Electronics was established in 1995-96 with a mandate to develop specially trained manpower in highly sophisticated field of Instrumentation. The center offers Post-Graduate Program in, M.Tech (Instrumentation) & M.Sc (Instrumentation). GATE qualified students are admitted in M.Tech (Instrumentation) course.

UNIVERSITY CENTER OF INSTRUMENTATION & MICROELECTRONICS - (UCIM)

These program provides necessary theoretical background and exposure in the latest technological developments in Instrumentation, thus providing a firm platform for the students to explore the research activities in the field of instrumentation.

Taking advantage of the complementary skills and expertise of the faculty, post graduate students pursue interdisciplinary and collaborative research activities with state-of-the-art resources available at UCIM. To enhance their innovative and creative capabilities students are required to undergo instrumentation related projects.
