1 Electronic Display

the NebulaeLike our sun, stars are formed within nebulas and they went through magnificent life cycles that take millions to billions of years to complete. This experimental project aims at creating an installation artwork that mimics a star forming nebulae, allowing the viewer to witness the galactic cycles in a much shorter time span.

The prototype is realized in 2 parts: 1. Pneumatic air cell shape shifting surface, 2. Stretchable LED lighting skin. Both parts are computer controlled via open source electronic prototyping and programming.

2 Sound Diffusing Tile

the ShifterThe shifter is a sound diffusing wall tile which is capable of changing its shape and colour. The Shifter stays flat against the wall, when needed it raises to form a dome shape to scatter incoming sound waves in multiple directions. Each tile allows the user to alter its colour, this may create a dynamic wall where its colour combination may be constantly changing.

This project is developed through research and model making. The working prototype is computer controlled where the change of shape and colour is automated.

3Furniture Series

VenationThis 2 pieces of furniture are inspired by the repetitive hexagonal pattern observed from the venation of a leaf when backlit. The sculptural chair cushion challenges the appearance of a traditional seating surface. It could be detached and applied onto any other surfaces. The stool/light creates dynamic shadows and encourages users to interfere it with their legs when sitting.

The cushion is made from cast silicon whereas the stool/light from CNC routed plywood.

4Water Purifying Backpack

SkoonEvery day in Africa, millions of women and children have to walk miles to collect drinking water from a contaminated source, and return while carrying the heavy load. The polluted water together with inadequate carrying posture results in high mortality rate and spine & pelvic injuries.SKOON is a water purifying backpack that allows user to transport water with minimal health damage while disinfect the contaminated water on their journey back home. The components include:1. A water bag to collect and transport water through the filter and into the container.2. A plastic-sand filter (designed for ease of maintenance) to clarify water. 3. A water container.4. A light bending panel that bends and focuses solar rays into the container for Solar Disinfection. 5. An ergonomic backpack frame that utilise a ‘bungee’ effect to absorb shock from the load when walking.

5 Hand Drawings

IllustrationsI started painting and still-life sketching very young, and later (during high-school) found great interest in drawing comics and manga-style illustrations. Besides rapid concept sketching, during my higher education I acquired skills in Wacom tablet drawings.
