Nick Breaker: World Champion Chicken Dancer during the Seventies. True Blackfoot Warrior and Proud Father.

One Gun: A one hundred and three year old Sioux who spent most of his life with the Blackfoot Tribe. He would dazzle me when he would speak to me in sign language. He would twirl his scalp lock around his finger while sitting in his smoke filled tipi explaining the past as a journey in time over the last one hundred years of History.

Albert Lighting: The many weekends Albert and I spent together laid the foundation of a respectful and deep friendship. He accompanied me to work at the Television station, and he would relate the many changes taking place in the lives of Native Peoples. He had a passion for his native people and they’re many historical experiences and crafts.

NOTE FROM HAWKEYE:

Dear Craftsman:

When contemplating, the composition of a book on native crafts, the visualizing of the many ways of compiling design impressions for a book, to benefit all seekers of native crafts, the following format and design was completed with much counseling and artistic critique.

It was realized that most books on Native craft subject matter, have much information in writing, however, this written information leaves many craft-persons frustrated being unable to understanding all the new and poorly defined jargon with little or no visual illustrations.

It was often contemplated, but now realized, that for many years I have been filling my diaries, on Native crafts, with diagrams and patterns for construction and vital information on obtaining important materials to make these creative masterpieces. This work has about 90% illustrations with visually clear and vital Construction details.

Let the purchaser of this work, please understand that this book is not designed to be a literary masterpiece; it is a working manual for the crafts-person who desires to spend many fruitful and pleasant hours designing one’s own masterpiece of North American Aboriginal Culture.

Enjoy,

Douglas “Hawkeye” Strickland
