Minutes of the meeting of the Research Board held on Monday, 11th May, 2015 at 2.30 p.m. in the Conference Room of the Administrative Building, Santiniketan.

1. Confirmation of Minutes

The minutes of the meeting of the Research Board held on 11.4.2015 were read and confirmed.

2. The Research Board considered and approved the list of students as at Annexure-I, who had enrolled themselves in Ph.D. programme and are yet to complete their course work.

3. Registration of Ph.D. students:

The Research Board considered the applications for Registration in Ph.D. programmes who have completed their coursework are given in Appendix-A, Supplementary Appendix-A1 Annexure-II, alongwith the observations of Research Board against each.

4. Re-registration of Ph.D. studentships:

Considered the applications of the following 14 (fourteen) Ph.D. students, duly recommended by the respective Board of Studies (except Sl.No.3 & 4 of Appendix-B, which were withdrawn), regarding re-registration of Ph.D. studentships as indicated in Appendix-B, Supplementary appendix B1 and Supplementary Appendix B2 .

It was RESOLVED that the aforesaid 12 (twelve) applications for Re-registration of Ph.D. studentships (i.e. Sl. No. 1, 2 and 5 to 14), be accepted as in Appendix-B, Supplementary Appendix-B1, Supplementary Appendix-B2.

It was also Resolved that the applications for re-registration of Amlan Rooj and Dhananjoy Bhakat ( at Sl. No. 3 & 4 respectively) both of Department of Physics, be sent back to the Head, Department of Physics for seeking recommendation of the BOS concerned.


5. Change of status of Ph.D. studentship:

Considered the recommendation of the concerned Boards of Studies for changing the status of Somdutta Chatterjee (Bhattacharya), Department of Rabindra-Sangit, Dance & Drama, as indicated in Appendix-C.

It was RESOLVED that the change of status of Somdutta Chatterjee (Bhattacharya), Department of Rabindra-Sangit, Dance & Drama be accepted and acted upon.

6. Miscellaneous

(i) Considered the application of Dr. Gopal Chandra De, former Professor of Agronomy, Department of ASEPAN, PSB regarding permission for extension of tenure of his supervision as supervisor of Sri Bhabani Shankar Nayek, a Ph.D. Scholar, Department of ASEPAN.

It was RESOLVED that Dr. Gopal Chandrra De, former Professor of Agronomy, Department of ASEPAN, PSB be permitted to continue to act as supervisor for the benefit of the aforesaid student and Sri Bhabani Shankar Nayek can submit his thesis under the supervision of Dr. Gopal Chandra De.

Re-considered the application of Prof. Shibani Chaudhury, Department of Environmental Studies regarding permission for extension of tenure of supervision of Prof. G.N. Chattopadhyay as co-supervisor of Mr. Utpal Majhi, a Ph. D. student of the Department of Environmental Studies upto January, 2017 and the application of Md. Liakat Mondal, a Ph. D. student of the Department of EES, PSB regarding permission for extension of tenure of his Principal Supervisor, Prof. Sibaji Chakraborty upto 08.01.2016, which was placed in the meeting of the Research Board dated 17.01.2015 and regretted.

It was RESOLVED that (a) Dr. G.N. Chattopadhyay former Professor of Palli Siksha-Bhavana, be permitted to continue to act as co-supervisor of Mr. Utpal Majhi and (b) Dr. Sibaji Chakraborty, former Professor of Palli Siksha-Bhavana be permitted to continue to act as Principal supervisor of Md. Liakat Mondal for the benefit of the aforesaid students.

(ii) Noted and approved the actions taken by the University in respect of awarding Ph.D. degrees to 8 (eight) students on the basis of evaluation of their theses and the result of viva-voce examinations as communicated by the Controller of Examinations as at Appendix-E.

(iii) Considered the application of Smt. Soma Banerjee dated 05.05.2015 regarding change of her supervisor and after detailed discussion it was RESOLVED that Prof. Sabujkali Sen, Adhyaksha, Vinaya-Bhavana be authorized to take necessary administrative steps even explore the opinion for changing supervisor with regard to solve the problem and report to the next Research Board meeting.


7. Modification of the title of the thesis :

Considered the recommendation of the concerned Boards of Studies for modification of the respective titles of theses of Sumana Ghosh and Loknath Sharma, both Ph.D. students of the Department of ASEPAN, as indicated in Appendix D of Supplementary Agenda.

It was RESOLVED that the modification of titles of theses of the aforesaid two Ph.D. students, Department of ASEPAN in Appendix D of Supplementary Agenda be accepted and acted upon.

8. a) The Research Board considered the observation of the BOS, ASEPAN for the referred back cases of Research Board dated 11.04.2015 and observations of the Research Board against each, as at Supplementary Appendx-A-2.

b) The Research Board considered the observation of the BOS, Plant Protection applications for the referred back cases of Research Board dated 11.04.2015 and observations of the Research Board against each, as at Supplementary Appendx-A-3.

The meeting ended with a vote of thanks to the chair.
