Objectives• Understand whether Property Managers who currently use Escapia, V12, or Property Plus

understand and like the new Rezgrid.

• Identify and report usability issues and preferences by the reservation system they are currently using.

Test Format and Participants• Remote test using WebEx to allow participants to view and control the computer displaying the

prototype

• Conducted August 6 – 14, 2013

• 7 Property Managers:

– 2 use Escapia

– 2 use V12

– 3 use Property Plus

Overall ReactionEscapia

• Generally positive comments: “it’s similar to Escapia,”“learnable,” and “will “just take some getting used to.”

• One participant still prefers Escapia because it’s more compact, mouse-over shows property and reservation details, and right-click provides actions.

Property Plus

• Generally positive comments: “clean,” “easy to read,” “more intuitive and more advanced than Property Plus.” “Just need to get used to it.”

• One participant still prefers Property Plus because you don’t have to go to another page to see property and reservation details; “this is more steps,” “cumbersome.”

V12

• Both participants were positive, but one still prefers V12 because “change is scary.”

GridEscapia

• Want to see more properties, a “tighter grid.” “Even when condensed, this is bigger than Escapia.”

Property Plus

• Want to see more properties. “It’s bigger than Property Plus.” “You don’t need all this information.”

• Likes seeing the number of guests; in Property Plus, you have to click multiple times to get this information.

• Going to another page to view property details takes too long, requires an action to get back, and makes it difficult to work with multiple properties.

• The date slider at the bottom is too sensitive.

Grid (cont.)V12

• Likes the differentiation between full and partial payments. “This is pretty awesome, an amazing upgrade to what we have now.”

• After selecting “Sep” in the month display, expected only September to show in the grid.

Legend• All participants knew or guessed

correctly about what the colors mean. When asked to find a key, all quickly found the legend.

Escapia

• Drop-down should stay open until the cursor is moved off of it.

Property Plus

V12

• Would prefer the legend to just be on the page, i.e., no clicking.

Settings• All participants liked the ability to custo-

mize the display of grid information; this is functionality they don’t have currently.

Escapia

• Would prefer settings in a pop-up rather than a page.

• Suggestion to put individual settings closer to the views they change, e.g., + or – next to the property list, calendar, etc.

Property Plus

• Likes the ability to display more information, but not the way it’s displayed. Suggestions included only showing the guest’s last name and taking more advantage of horizontal space (but this only works if the reservation is long enough).

V12

• Tabs don’t look like tabs.

FiltersEscapia

• Filters occupy too much space on the page. “They’re a bit cumbersome.”

• Filters aren’t as accessible as Escapia’s filters; HA should think about other ways to show them.

• Bedroom filter shows “1,” “hotel,” “studio,” “2.” Is this a prototype error?

Property Plus

• Down arrow threw him off. “I saw this and thought they were already expanded.”

• Would like the filters to collapse automatically after applying.

• In addition to the filters, need to search by a unit number or name.

• After searching, wants to see number of units that meet the criteria.

• This is better than Property Plus, where you have to go to another page to enter dates.

Filters (cont.)V12

• Didn’t see filters; when given a date, both participants opened the calendar at the top (one did it several times before giving up).

• After selecting 1 bedroom, expected to see availability for only 1 bedroom properties or properties with 1+ bedrooms; she said she expects only 1 bedroom properties.

Property Details• All participants knew to click on a

property to go to its details page.

• All participants knew to click on the map to find out if the property is close to a lake.

Escapia

• Would prefer this to open in a separate tab so you can open multiple properties and move among them.

• Would prefer this to open in a popup to maintain context.

Property Plus

• There’s too much space between the columns, making it difficult to read.

• Would like to see all of her properties on the map (depending of course on the zoom level).

BookEscapia

• Would prefer this to open in a popup to maintain context.

• “Update Price” isn’t in an intuitive location.

V12

• Would like a button to quickly return to the grid.

Interacting with CalendarEscapia

• Didn’t understand the arrows next to the month display. “It’s not intuitive. You have to play with them.” In Escapia, used to moving by week, month, and year. This looks like it moves in 1- and 3-week increments.

• There was a tooltip on one set of arrows, but not the other.

• After selecting the arrival date, the departure calendar should default to after that date.

V12

• Selected “Sep” in the month display expected the arrival and departure calendars to default to September (1 and 30, respectively).

Available Properties with Exact Dates• All participants immediately understood

and liked this display of available properties.

Property Plus

• “Nice. In Property Plus, you have to search for the dates visually.”

Available Properties with Flexible DatesEscapia

• No use case for this but learnable.

• Expects price to show, like when searching with exact dates.

Property Plus

• Can’t do this now but like it.

• Not intuitive initially, but learnable.

• Would like available properties and dates to be highlighted in some way.

V12

• No use case for this.

• Would like available properties and dates to be highlighted in some way.

• Expects to see prices.

Filters• Not clear that “Clear” only clears

calendar dates.

• Even though it clears dates on calendar, filter breadcrumb still shows dates.
