ThePacificNorthwestDEWSKickoffMeetingwillbeheldFebruary2-3,2016inPortland,ORtoformallylaunchtheDroughtEarlyWarningSystem.Thistwo-dayeventwillbringtogetherfederal,tribal,state,academic,andlocalpartnersandstakeholdersforanin-depthdiscussionondroughtinthePacificNorthwest,withattentiontowater,climate,landandemergencymanagement.Specifically,thediscussionswillcenteronimprovingthecapacitytomeettheinformationneedsofdecisionmakersintheregion.DesiredoutcomesofthePacificNorthwestDEWSKickoffMeetinginclude:

1. Increasingtheknowledgeandawarenessofpresentdecision-supporttoolsandprocesses,includingtheNationalIntegratedDroughtInformationSystemanditspartners

2. Identifyingknowledgeandinformationgaps.3. Developingrecommendationsforimprovedearlywarning,whichwouldincludebettercoordinationof

integrating,displaying,anddistributingclimate,weatherandwaterdataandinformation.4. Developingrecommendationsforfutureactions,collaborativeresearch,anddecisionsupporttools.5. Identifyingbaselineevaluationmetricsfordroughtanditsassociatedimpacts.
