Eaton’s legacy RTU replacement solution provides utilities with a cost-effective answer to upgradinglegacy GE D20 I/O RTUs while preparing them for the Internet of Things (IoT).

Based on the utility hardened and proven Eaton’s Cooper Power™ series SMP family of substation automation products, the SMP SG-4250 gateway and SMP I/O units, our basic hardware agnostic replacement solution, supports most of the GE D20 RTU configurations.

SG-4250 gateway

Eaton’s Cooper Power™ series SMP SG-4250 is a substation grade gateway with a proven history in data acquisition and distribution automation applications, as a protocol conversion device and integration solution for secure IED remote access. It has been recognized as one of the most efficient and reliable substation gateways on the market and is perfect for distributed automation.

SMP I/O

The SMP I/O unit is a scalable, distributed I/O substation grade RTU module. It is designed to work with the SMP SG-4250 gateway–simplifying both system setup and commissioning.

• With Eaton’s solution, the legacy RTU main controller and I/O boards are removed and replaced with:

• One (1) SMP SG-4250 gateway

• SMP I/O units and RTU Interface Boards to match the legacy RTU I/O functionality

• Interposing relays are kept (when present)

• Legacy RTU connectors are simply transferred to Eaton’s RTU interface board, allowing for the use of existing terminal cables and field wiring

This solution is adaptable to various GE D20 RTU configura-tions and fits into the legacy RTU allocated space, providing seamless field integration of the SMP I/O units and the SMP SG-4250 gateway.

Visual T&D

An alternative to SCADA, Visual T&D is an easy-to-use, pre-configured and scalable smart monitoring and control application that continuously monitors substation and distribution equipment operation and performance. Visual T&D automatically imports all SMP gateway data points and supports redundant networks; it brings:

IED Manager Suite

• Manages device configuration settings (monitoring changes)
