THOUGHTS FROM THE PASTOR

Today we celebrate the Feast of Christ the King, the last Sunday of the Liturgical Year. In our reading from the First Letter of Saint Paul to the Corinthians we read “Brothers and sisters: Christ has been raised from the dead, the first fruits of those who have fallen asleep.”

“For since death came through man, the resurrection of the dead came also through man.” This tells us what type of king Christ is. He is not one who claims His authority over us or looks to be lifted up on a royal throne (although He deserves all of this.) Rather He has humbled Himself to be like us so that we can be lifted to the glory that God the Father had prepared for us from the beginning. As St. Paul goes on to remind us “For just as in Adam all die, so too in Christ shall all be brought to life.” Pray for Peace. Every week we hear of another horrific act of violence. One must ask when did we become such a violent society? Love is in need of love and peace is in need of peace; the peace God has to offer. Please remember that I invite you to join me every Friday of this year to take some time maybe five minutes or half an hour or an hour whatever time you may have and spend it in prayer for peace. You do not have to be in church, although the church is always available to you, prayer can happen anywhere you are. You can be alone or get together with some friends. Let us just do this and use this great tool that the Lord has given us and make our world a place of love and peace. When good people come together in prayer wonderful things will happen. Let us lift our prayers for peace. Remember the Lord says I will hear the prayer of the faithful person.

SCRIPTURE READINGS FOR THE WEEK Let us use these biblical passages to help us celebrate the Lord in our lives and relationships. Christ the King Sunday: Matthew 13: 31– 32 Matthew 15: 22-33 “Lord save me! . . Oh you of little faith why did you doubt.”

Stewardship Thought for the Week “For a tree is known by its fruit.”

Our Lord and King Jesus Christ reminds us of this fact in the twelfth chapter of Matthew’s Gospel. So what are your fruits? Are they love, forgiveness, mercy, sharing? I hope that they are all of these and more. For to be a follower of Christ; one who deserves the name of Christian we must be these things and have that willingness to see the other person above ourselves.

CSA Reminder: If you have outstanding pledge payments for the 2017 CSA Campaign, you should be receiving monthly reminder statements and Diocesan addressed return envelopes from the CSA Office. Please be sure to include our parish name and your CSA ID# on your checks when you mail in your payments to the Diocese. If you have not yet had the opportunity to make a pledge, it is not too late. Please return your pledge card and donation to the

Diocesan office at 9292 Broadway marked CSA. Thank you for your faithful stewardship and for giving back according to what you have received from God. No gift is too small or too large.

Wow!! What a blessing. Your generosity is really great. We have reached our goal of $12,000.00 and then some. To date we have received $16,137.00 from various donors.

I thank everyone who has given to this cause. What a wonderful example of stewardship. The doors have been ordered and in about eight weeks or sooner (we hope for the sooner) we will see our new church doors. If I must say so myself they are quite beautiful. I think you will like them.

We currently have $31,139.61 in our building fund. This money is part of our Roof Fund. We need $100,000.00 for a new roof on the old school building. The patch that we have on the roof has reached the end of its warranty. It could fail at any moment, so we really need to get this roof fixed.

I am your humble Servant,

Fr. Charles A. Mosley

WHAT ARE THEY SAYING ABOUT THE

CHURCH TODAY

In this column I will answer questions about the Church or the parish, so whatever you want to know about the Church or the parish please just ask. In addition we will sometimes look at issues that affect our church or our members. We just celebrated Thanksgiving. Today I will offer a prayer of Thanksgiving.

A PRAYER FOR THANKSGIVING

O God of all creation,

Giver of all good gifts,

You bless our lives with your generous love,

by giving us once more the fruit of the fields,

our family and friends,

our faith, our work,

and our lives together.

We thank you for these gifts,

and ask that you help us to imitate your goodness,

to share our blessings with those who are in need.

Amen.

TITHING

We can partake right here and now of the grace of a faith-filled life. We will not only know about God, but know

God personally and devotedly. And that God whom we intimately know, we gladly serve, offering Him our time, talent and treasure.
