A preciados feligreses alo largo de todo el año litúr-gico nos hemos acercado a Dios en sus mani-festaciones de ternura, de misericordia, de holo-causto y en sus diversas epifanías. Hoy lo mira-

mos en sí mismo, en su esencia. La liturgia nos acerca al mis-terio de la vida íntima de Dios que, aunque llena el cielo con su omnipresencia, tiene la humildad de enviar a sus discípu-los hasta los confines de la tierra para que prediquen y bauticen en su nombre. Parece un Dios lejano, pero ¿Quién más podría decir que su Creador se ha hecho uno como nosotros? Por la encar-nación nos introduce en el misterio de su vida hasta tal punto que podemos acudir a Él en términos familiares. En efecto, el alma habitada por la Santísima Trinidad, es una realidad que hemos de descu-brir y que ilumina toda nues-tra vida. Además nos lleva a la perfecta unión con Dios y al servicio del prójimo. Todos hemos sido llamados a la santidad. El santo es capaz de todo porque lleva a Dios en su corazón y Él le da la fuerza necesaria para todos los heroísmos, todos los martiri-os, todas las acciones apostó-licas, todas las contem-placiones de amor.Por tanto, La Iglesia es la familia de los hijos adoptivos de Dios, y una de las cosas que nos rev-ela el misterio de la Trinidad es que Dios es una comuni-dad de amor, es decir, una familia. Por eso la Biblia usa tres palabras: Padre, Hijo, Amor, para expresar de algún modo el misterio de la vida divina. En ultimas, cuando se nos pregunta ¿En qué creemos, los cristianos? respondemos: "Creo en un solo Dios, Padre todopoderoso, creador del cielo y de la tierra". Y también creador del hombre, su obra maestra, colocado en el centro de esta grandeza universal. Es hijo con el Hijo. Este es el pro-digio que se realiza en el bautismo: Nos hace hijos adoptivos de Dios, hermanos de Jesucristo, herederos del cielo, miem-bros de la Iglesia. Un pueblo nuevo que nace del misterio trinitario que hoy celebramos. Fr. Fabián Moncada

D ear parishioners throughout the liturgical year, we have come closer to God in his manifestations of tenderness, mercy, holocaust and in his various epiphanies. Today we look at it in itself, in its

essence. The liturgy brings us closer to the mystery of the intimate life of God who, although he fills heaven with his omnipresence, has the humility to send his disciples to the

ends of the earth to preach and baptize in his name. It seems a distant God, but who else could say that its Creator has become one like us? By incarnation he intro-duces us into the mystery of his life to such an extent that we can turn to him in famil-iar terms. In fact, the soul inhabited by the Holy Trini-ty is a reality that we have to discover and that illuminates our whole life. It also leads us to perfect union with God and the service of our neigh-bor. We have all been called to holiness. The saint is ca-pable of everything because he carries God in his heart and He gives him the neces-sary strength for all the hero-isms, all the martyrdoms, all the apostolic actions, all the contemplations of love. Therefore, the Church is the family of the Adopted chil-dren of God, and one of the things that reveals the mys-tery of the Trinity is that God is a community of love, that is, a family. That is why the Bible uses three words: Father, Son, Love, to ex-

press in some way the mystery of the divine life. In the end, when we are asked, what do we believe in, Christians? we respond: "I believe in one God, almighty Father, creator of heaven and earth." And also the creator of man, his master-piece, placed at the center of this universal greatness. He is a son with the Son. This is the miracle that takes place in bap-tism: It makes us adoptive sons of God, brothers of Jesus Christ, heirs of heaven, members of the Church. A new town that is born of the trinitarian mystery that we celebrate today.

The Feast of the Visitation (May 31) recalls the journey made by the Blessed Virgin to see her relative, Elizabeth, who was pregnant with Saint John the Baptist.

This feast dates back to the 6th century and was formerly celebrated on July 2. In 1969, it was moved to today’s date so that it can be celebrated between the Solemnity of the An-nunciation (on March 25) and the Solemnity of the birth of Saint John the Baptist (on June 24).

This feast invites us to always be open to the workings of the Holy Spirit and reminds us we have Mary as our model of humility, obedi-ence, and service.

E l 31 de Mayo la Iglesia celebra la Fiesta de la Visitación de la Santísima Virgen María. Con esta fiesta la Iglesia cierra el mes de Mayo, mes consagrado a la Vir-

gen. Este episodio que hace referencia a la visita que hizo María a su prima Isabel nos muestra su manera de ser amable, una guía de inspiración para ser discípulo y en el que surgen dos de los más hermosos cantos de alabanza: la segunda parte del Avemaría y el canto del Magnificat. Este es el primer viaje que realizará Maria luego de que oyó del ángel Gabriel que su prima también esperaba un hijo. Iluminada por el Es-píritu Santo, comprendió que debería ir a visitar a aquella familia, ayudarles y llevarles las gracias y bendiciones del Hijo de Dios que se había encar-nado en Ella. Es esa actitiud, que la podemos leer en el evan-gelio de S. Lucas (1,39-56), la que debe inspirar-

nos para ser un buen discípulo: ...María se encaminó presurosa a un pueblo de las montañas de Judea…. Presurosa, rápido, sin espera , ya con el mensaje del ángel y guia del Espíritu Santo no pierde tiempo y se encamina a la “mision” sin importar su estado y de lo difícil que pude ser el camino (montañoso); ...entrando a la casa de Zacarías, saludó a Isabel… muy a pesar de lo tedioso del camino, llega a su destino sin perder la amabilidad, sin perder la alegria, el gozo de estar en gracia … En cuanto ésta oyó el saludo de María, la creatura saltó en su seno… María, discípulo prefecto, acudio con prontitud al llamado de ayuda, no importó lo difícil de la misión, al llegar no trajo con ella pesares, desalientos, sin sabores, mas bien llegó atenta, sin cansancio, y con un corazón lleno de alegría , Maria llevaba consigo a Jesus. Todos somos discípulos, todos debemos llevar a Jesus en nuestro interior y al igual que Maria debemos llevar a todas partes sus gracias y bendiciones siempre de manera presurosa, amable y alegre.

La Festividad del Corpus Christi

Fue una religiosa, Juliana de Cornillon, la que animó a celebrar esta fiesta en honor del Cuerpo y de la Sangre de Cristo el año 1208. Esta fiesta que surgió en la Edad Media, fue consecuencia del florecimiento del pensamiento eucarístico del siglo XIII. En el siglo anterior comenzó la elevación de la Hostia en el momento de la consagración. En pleno siglo XIII -1246- se celebró esta fiesta en la diócesis de

Lieja (Bélgica). Unos años más tarde tuvo lugar el hecho milagroso de la Hostia consagrada que comenzó a sangrar ante las dudas de fe del sacerdote que cele-braba la Eucaristía en la ciudad de Bolsena (Italia). Este hecho muy difundido llevó al Papa Urbano IV a instituir la festividad del Corpus Christi en 1264. En el siglo XIV tendremos acontecimientos que reforzarán dicha solemnidad, que tendría desde entonces dos actos fundamentales: la Eucaristía y la Procesión. En el concilio de Vienne del 1311, el papa que había trasladado la sede desde Roma a Avignon dio una serie de normas para el cortejo que acompañaría al Señor en la procesión dentro de los templos, indicando hasta los detalles de dónde irían las autoridades que quisieran ir en el desfile. Años más tarde, Juan XXII introdujo la Octava del Corpus con Exposición del Santísimo Sacramento incluida. Y será el primero de los Papas renacentistas, Nicolás V, el primero en establecer que la Hostia Santa saliera en procesión por las calles de Roma en la fiesta del Corpus del año 1447.

“Catholic” is More Than Just a Social Identity

We are so blessed to be part of a Church that has such a rich tradition, culture, and history — the communion of saints, the body of teachings and tradition, and the ability of our Church to witness to just how great of a gift Christ has given us in inviting us to share in His Church and her culture, just to name a few. However, Catholicism defines so much more than our cultural identity. Catholicism defines our mystical identity . Through our baptism, we are transformed from merely beloved creatures of God into members of His very family. Moreover, our entry into the Church through the Sacraments of Initiation (Baptism, Eucharist, and Confirmation) leaves a permanent mark on our souls that demons fear and angels revere. Baptism cleanses us of the original sin of our first parents; Confirmation opens our hearts in new ways to the movements, gifts, and charisms of the Holy Spirit; and the Eucharist, each and every time we receive it, transforms our hearts to be even more like our heavenly Father’s. Being Catholic changes the very essence of who we are; we are changed from mere creatures into beautiful, worthy sons and daughters of a loving Father . Moreover, living out the Catholic faith means so much more than going to a certain high school or praying at a certain church on Sundays. It means we have been chosen by our heavenly Father to enter into an intimate relationship of infinite and unfailing love. And our guide to our Father’s heart is the Church, which His Son has so generously given us. Now, I don’t mean to say we shouldn’t participate in Catholic culture — we should! Like, who doesn’t love plaid jumpers and Fish-Fry Fridays? I’m also not saying that we’re being shallow and missing the true point of Catholicism if we participate in this culture (I ’m in the thick of Catholic culture for sure — you should see the stickers on my water bottle). Rather, I mean to say that, as we live out our Catholic faith, we must recognize that the cultural and social pieces of Catholicism, while fun and important and beautiful, are always compliments to the essential core of our faith: intimacy with the Father. The social, cultural, and traditional aspects of Catholicism must lead us to the Father’s heart, or we have stopped too short. Jesus gave us the Church so we could know the Father’s love, not just so we could wear saint medals and scapulars.
