OUR LADY OF PERPETUAL HELP │ NOVEMBER 4, 2017 │ 31ST SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME P. 2

Thank you to everyone who took part in our special Halloween outreach this year. I pray that the invitations we extended in friendship and love will help our neighbors to draw closer to our parish and find here what we have already experienced: the love of God at work among us. I also want to

thank our amazing Parish Family Dinner Night crew who were ready to welcome our parish family and the many guests that might come with them. It’s a pretty incredible thing to prepare an entire dinner when you don’t know if you’ll have 450 or 700 guests. So for their trust in the Lord and their generosity in serving I am most grateful! This past week, as we entered November, we began the traditional month of All Souls. As we remember and pray for all of our beloved dead this month, we also honor the places where they are buried and await the resurrection. Over the centuries, the Church has honored cemeteries as holy and sacred places, set aside for prayer. We honor this tradition in our parish cemetery and this Sunday at 2:00pm we will celebrate the annual Commemoration of all the Faithful Departed at St. Mary’s Cemetery. Please join us as we pray for all those buried in our parish cemetery. This is a good time to remember that even in death we honor and reverence the body since it awaits the resurrection. When a loved one has died, a traditional burial is still preferred, but cremation is an option. When a loved one has been cremated, their ashes must be kept intact, the same as one would treat a body. The ashes may not be separated or scattered. Instead, they should remain in a proper vessel that is interred in a sacred place, such as a cemetery or parish columbarium (as opposed to being stored in a closet or on a mantle at home). This coming Friday, Nov. 10, I will be taking o: for our parish pilgrimage to the Holy Land. As we make the pilgrimage to the places made holy by the Lord Jesus, please know that I will be praying for all of you and your intentions. During my time away, please note a few changes to our daily Mass and Confession schedule which will be posted on the parish website. I look forward to seeing you at the end of our 10-day pilgrimage. God bless you!

Dear Brothers & Sisters:

Growing Stronger Through Worship In the Great Commandment Jesus tells us the primary purpose we exist: “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, mind, soul and strength.” Loving God like this is called worship. During worship, we enter into God’s presence and he gives himself to us, so that we are made

stronger by his life and grace. This happens especially when we worship through the Sacraments, and most powerfully in the Eucharist, the Mass. Worship isn’t limited to what we do in church.

Even the simplest and most ordinary things of our day can be o:ered to the Lord as an expression of worship, as an expression of our love for Him: the changing of a diaper, helping our

kids with homework, or doing the dishes.

Bereavement Support Group will meet on November 13 (before the

Thanksgiving holiday) at 7pm in the Parish O4ce Living Room. We o:er a welcoming and supportive environment for those dealing with the loss of a loved one. For more information, please contact Sr. Lorraine McGraw at 410-747-4334, ext. 314 or email [email protected].

Growing Broader Through Mission and Evangelization Evangelization is everything we do as we share the Good News of God’s love with the world

around us. It’s not mainly the programs we run on campus, but how we share the Lord with others in our daily lives outside the campus, in our words and actions. We share the Good News out of

love for those who have not heard it, and because Jesus sent his Church this mission and purpose: “Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of

the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.” (Matthew 28:19)

Our Marriage, Our Mission. Remaining Sessions: November 17, January 19, & February 9.

Attend any or all sessions. Married 51 years, Joe and Cinda DeVet, are entertaining and fun! Please register for each evening and for childcare through the website www.olphparish.org or by calling the parish o4ce, 410-747-4334. There is no cost to the evenings. Questions? Contact Kathy Schmidt 410-747-5611 [email protected]

IT'S ALMOST NATIONAL VOCATIONS AWARENESS WEEK! Are you a young woman in high school

or college looking to learn more about religious life? If so, you're invited to a screening of For Love Alone, a beautiful film promoting religious vocations. Join us for a fun night talking about prayer and discernment at 7pm Friday, November 10 at the Novotny home in Catonsville. Brownies provided! For more information and to RSVP, please contact Veronica at [email protected].

Growing Deeper through Discipleship God wants us to grow spiritually mature, to become more and more like Christ as we follow him in daily life. This is what we call discipleship and it’s all about learning a new way of living. Jesus told us, “It is enough for the disciple that he become like his teacher” (Matthew 10:25) In light of

this purpose, we want to grow more Christ-like in our thoughts, actions and feelings. This is measured more by one’s lifestyle than by one’s learning.

Growing More

Loving

Through

Ministry &

Outreach The second half of the Great Commandment

tells us to love our neighbor as ourselves.

This is the second great purpose of our life. Our parish family lives this

out in ministry and outreach when we

express love for our neighbor, both here at the parish and beyond the campus. Every time we reach out in love to others with concern for their spiritual, emotional, or physical needs in the name of Jesus, we are

ministering.

Celebrate Recovery

is a 12-step program based on our faith in Jesus Christ. It is a biblical and balanced program that helps us overcome our hurts, hang-ups, and habits in a welcoming and confidential environment.

The program is for adults (18 and over) who are struggling with addiction or bad habits, as well as those family members or friends a:ected as a result. Celebrate Recovery at OLPH provides a safe and confidential place for people to share their stories instead of su:ering alone in isolation.

MARCH FOR LIFE 2018 -

Mark your calendars for Friday, January 19, 2018. OLPH will have a bus going to the march, as in previous years. Reserve a seat today! At this point there is NO COST to go on the bus.

Mark your calendars & please join us on November 18th from 9am-6pm for our Holiday Mart fundraiser! We will have vendors of all kinds – crafts; Christmas gifts and items from local vendors. Are you a crafter and/or vendor that would like to rent table space for the day? $25 will get you the spot to sell your holiday crafts and gift items. Let’s work together to make this a success!

Profits will benefit the CDA “Feed the Hungry” and School

Scholarship program. Please contact Verna A Kramer, Regent at 410-465-2163 or any of the wonderful Catholic Daughter Ladies of OLPH.

Thank You! The Knights of Columbus would like to thank

everyone that contributed to their annual Tootsie Roll Drive. Over $1430 was raised for the “Faith and Light” Ministry for the intellectually disabled at OLPH.

Growing Warmer Through Fellowship Because God is love, he treasures relationships. In fact, he’s always existed in the perfect loving

relationship: Father, Son and Holy Spirit. God has never been lonely, but he wants us to share in the joy of his love by bringing us into his family: “God the Father destined us for adoption to himself through Jesus Christ.” (Ephesians 1:5) As part of God’s family, the Church, we are brought into

relationship with one another. These relationships can be familiar and friendly, as well as deep and supportive. Fellowship is all the ways we engage with our fellow parishioners in genuine Christian

relationships and draw one another deeper into the life of our parish family and Church.
