TODAY'S READINGS First Reading -- There is no other name under heav-en by which we are to be saved than the name of Je-sus Christ the Nazarene (Acts 4:8-12). Psalm -- The stone rejected by the builders has be-come the cornerstone (Psalm 118). Knights of Columbus High School Scholarships

This year the Our Lady of Loretto Council of the Knights of Columbus is offering two $2,000 scholarships pay-able at $500 per year. The scholarship will be awarded to 8th graders that are attending a Catho-lic High School in the fall. Applicants must be either Our Lady Of Loretto 8th Grade students or OLL CCD participants.

The scholarship application process involves the completion of a short form, a one page essay and an inter-view with a committee from the Knights. Applications are due by Monday, May 14, 2018 at 9:00 AM at either the school or the rectory. Applications can be obtained by con-tacting Erin Troy at the rectory (erin@OLLNovato.org).

The Knights have been providing this scholarship since 1991, our 27th year! Thanks to all of you who have sup-ported our events and allowed us the opportunity to support Catholic High School education over these many years.

SAVED BY THE ONE WHO WAS REJECTED Some city teenagers often scorn and reject farm kids. Yet it's no exaggeration to say that humanity owes its life to farmers who care for the world's crops and live-stock. This week's scrip-tures remind us that Jesus was as rejected as a shep-herd, a farm boy, yet we owe our very lives to him. In this Sunday's reading from the Acts of the Apos-tles Peter tells the people that salvation comes through Jesus Christ, the one who was rejected. In John's letter we hear that we have become God's beloved children through Jesus, whom the world did not know. Lastly, in the Gospel Jesus describes himself as the Good Shepherd who "lays down his life for the sheep" (John 10:11). Will you join Jesus in laying down your life for God's beloved flock?

Sin embargo, no sería una exageración decir que la humanidad les debe la vida a los agricultores que cuidan los cultivos y el ganado por todo el mundo. La Sagrada Escritura para esta semana nos recuerda que Jesús fue rechazado co-mo pastor, como chico del

campo, sin embargo, a él le debemos la vida. En la lectura de los Hechos de los Apóstoles de este domingo, Pedro les dice a las per-sonas que la salvación viene por Jesucristo, que fue rechazado y crucificado. En la carta del apóstol san Juan escuchamos que nos hemos convertido en los hijos amados de Di-os por Jesús, a quien el mundo no conoció. Por último, en el Evangelio Jesús se describe como el buen Pastor: "yo doy la vida por las ovejas" (Juan 10:11). ¿Te unirás a Jesús para dar tu vida por el rebaño amado de Dios?

TRADICIONES DE NUESTRA FE El lenguaje es una herramienta de comunicación no solo entre nosotros mismos, sino con Diosito. Nací en EE. UU. pero mi lengua materna es el español, lo aprendí en la cuna y lo usábamos en casa. También aprendí ingles en la escuela. Hay quienes me preguntan cual idioma uso para hablar con Dios. Esta pregunta reconoce que el ser humano debe usar un lenguaje humano para rezar. Esta semana celebramos el Día del Idioma para festejar la herencia que tenemos en nuestra len-gua castellana. Festejamos el 23 de abril, fecha en que falleció Miguel de Cervantes y Saavedra (1547-1616) autor de Don Quijote de la Mancha. Este autor español fue el que enriqueció y ayudo a dar forma gramática a la lengua española. Hay que saber que el castellano que llegó a nues-tro continente tiene una larga y rica historia, ya que es una mezcla del latín, dialectos ibéricos y el árabe. Una vez en América el español tomó características y vocabulario indígena, y ahora en EE. UU. se está renovando con anglicismos. Y es en este idioma que yo y muchos latinos hablamos con Diosito.
