Jacque and her little sister Cici are visiting the Pantanal Arena

in Cuiaba for the first time. “Girls, this stadium is the smallest

of the 12 built for the World Cup of 2014 in Brazil, the

Maracanã is the biggest soccer stadium, it is in the city Rio de

Janeiro,” explains their mommy. “It looks really big to us!” say

a surprised Jacque and Cici.

Jacque e sua irmãzinha Cici estão visitando pela primeira vez a

Arena Pantanal, em Cuiabá. "Meninas, este estádio é o menor

dos 12 construídos para a Copa do Mundo de 2014 no Brasil, o

Maracanã é o maior estádio de futebol na cidade do Rio de

Janeiro," explica sua mãe. "Este já parece bem grande para

nós!" dizem surpresas a Jacque e a Cici.

Cici is excited to go with her dad for his training as a World Cup

Volunteer. “Papai, what is the World Cup?” asks Cici. “It is

where all the countries of the world compete to see who has

the best soccer team - this World Cup will be my first, and I will

be a volunteer,” says her dad.

Cici está entusiasmada para ir com seu pai no treinamento de

trabalho na Copa do Mundo de Voluntariado. "Papai, o que é a

Copa do Mundo?" pergunta a Cici. "É onde todos os países do

mundo competem para ver quem tem a melhor equipe de

futebol - esta Copa do Mundo será o meu primeiro, e eu vou ser

um voluntário," diz o seu pai.

At the auditorium Jacque and Cici are more curious about being

a volunteer than about soccer. They listen and ask a lot of

questions. “What are all these people doing here?” asks Cici.

“They have an interest and civic spirit to help others, like me!”

says her mother. “Being a volunteer means sharing with others

a unique experience,” says the man sitting next to their

mother.

No auditório Jacque e Cici estão mais curiosas sobre ser

voluntário do que sobre futebol. Elas ouvem e fazem um monte

de perguntas. "O que todas estas pessoas estão fazendo aqui?"

pergunta a Cici. "Elas têm interesse e espírito cívico de ajudar

os outros, assim como eu!" diz a sua mãe. "Ser voluntário

significa compartilhar com outras pessoas uma experiência

única," diz o homem sentado ao lado de sua mãe.

“After more than 60 years, the greatest party in the soccer

world is returning to Brazil,” says Milena of the Local

Organizing Committee (LOC). “Our mission, as volunteers is to

make Brazil 2014 the best World Cup ever, our slogan for this

event will be TOGETHER IN ONE RHYTHM!” says Milena of the

LOC.

"Depois de mais de 60 anos, a maior festa de futebol do mundo

está de volta ao Brasil," diz Milena do Comitê Organizador Local

(LOC). "Nossa missão, como voluntário é fazer com que o Brasil

2014, seja a melhor Copa do Mundo de todos os tempos, nosso

slogan para este evento será JUNTOS NUM SÓ RITMO!" diz

Milena do LOC.

The Brazil World Cup event will last 32 days, with 64 matches,

with the first game on June 12th, the girls are only days away

from the beginning of the world’s greatest soccer event. “Wow,

there are lot blue chairs in this place!” says Cici.

A Copa do Mundo Brasil vai durar 32 dias, com 64 jogos, com o

primeiro jogo em 12 de junho, as meninas estão apenas alguns

dias para iniciar o maior evento de futebol do mundo. "Uau, há

muitas cadeiras azuis neste lugar!" diz a Cici.

“Look, those men are painting the grass on the field,” points

out Cici. “When the game starts the spectators watch the field,

and cheer for their favorite team, each team has eleven

players, each side has a goalkeeper, the team that who makes

the most goals – wins, simple,” says Cici´s dad.

"Olha, esses homens estão pintando a grama no campo,"

aponta a Cici. "Quando a partida começa os espectadores

assistem ao jogo, e torce por seu time favorito, cada um tem

onze jogadores, cada lado tem um goleiro, o time que faz mais

gols – ganha, simples!” diz o pai da Cici.

Suddenly, a TV station crew comes to the stadium to interview

volunteers. The girls are invited by Milena from LOC to go to

the field. While Jacque plays her violin, Cici holds her music.

Everybody stands up, and listens to the Brazil National Anthem.

The girls welcome all the volunteers.

De repente, uma a estação de TV chega ao estádio para

entrevistar os voluntários. As meninas são convidadas pelo

Comitê Organizador Local (COL) para vim no campo. Enquanto

a Jacque toca seu violino, a Cici segura às partituras. Todos

ficam de pé para ouvir o Hino Nacional Brasileiro. As meninas

dizem sejam bem-vindos a todos os voluntários.

Today, the official sponsors and partners of the World Cup are

here, Jacque and Cici join the question and answer game.

“Everyone must hold up the letter, A, B or C for the best

answer. How many host cities does Brazil have?” asks one the

sponsors in front of the crowd. “Brazil has 12 host cities, the

answer is letter C,” says Cici holding up the right answer.

Hoje, os patrocinadores e parceiros oficiais da Copa do Mundo

estão aqui, Jacque e Cici participam da brincadeira

respondendo as perguntas. "Todos devem segurar a letra, A, B

ou C para a melhor resposta. Quantas cidades-sede o Brasil

tem?" Pergunta um dos patrocinadores na frente da multidão.

"O Brasil tem 12 cidades-sede, a resposta é letra C," diz a Cici

segurando a resposta certa.

Jacque and Cici are having fun answering questions about the

history of World Cup. Now, starts the next game as sponsors

hand out numbers to all the volunteers. “Today we have 600

volunteers at this arena, but only 100 will get a gift, a toy

mascot, made just for this World Cup,” say the sponsors.

Jacque e Cici estão se divertindo respondendo sobre a história

da Copa do Mundo. Começa agora o próximo jogo, enquanto

isto, os patrocinadores distribuem números para todos os

voluntários. "Hoje temos 600 voluntários nesta arena, mas

apenas 100 irão receber presentes, o mascote brinquedo, feitos

apenas para esta Copa do Mundo," dizem os patrocinadores.

“What is the World Cup mascot´s official name?” asks the

sponsor. “The correct answer is Fuleco, letter B,” he says a

minutes later. Fuleco is the combination of two words FU for

futebol and ECO for ecologia, in Brazilian-Portuguese.

"Qual é o nome do mascote oficial da Copa do Mundo?"

pergunta o patrocinador. "A resposta correta é Fuleco, letra B,"

diz ele um minuto depois. Fuleco é a abreviação de duas

palavras FU para futebol e ECO para ecologia, no Português do

Brasil.

Like everybody here, the girls wants to win a World Cup

mascot. “Who wants to take home a stuffed armadillo mascot?”

ask one of the sponsors. “Me! Me! Me!” scream all the

volunteers.

Como todos aqui, as meninas querem ganhar um mascote da

Copa do Mundo. "Quem quer levar para casa um mascote tatu

de pelúcia?" pergunta um dos patrocinadores. "Eu! Eu! Eu!

"gritam todos os voluntários.

“Look Jacque, they called my number, I get to take home a

mascot from FUNDAY!” says Cici excited next to her sister. “I

am happy for you, Cici!”

"Olha Jacque, eles chamaram meu número, vou levar para casa

um mascote do FUNDAY!” diz a Cici animada ao lado de sua

irmã. "Estou feliz por você, Cici!"

Then, the very last number called from the sponsor was

Jacque´s number. They gave away all 100 gifts, and took the

winners picture. Today Jacque, Cici and all volunteer learned

more about soccer and the history of the FIFA; which in French

means: Fédération Internationale de Football Association, and

organizes the World Cup, they all are having a really fun day,

and the experience of a lifetime.

Então, o último número chamado pelo patrocinador foi o

número da Jacque que deram a todos os 100 presentes, e

tiraram a foto dos vencedores. Hoje, Jacque, Cici e todos

voluntários aprenderam muito mais que futebol, e da história

da FIFA; que significa em Francês: Fédération Internationale de

Football Association, que organiza a Copa do Mundo, todos eles

estão tendo um dia muito divertido, e uma experiência por toda

vida.

Smiles, charisma, friendliness and warmth are the most

important aspects of being a volunteer. “Also, remember that

people will be from various parts of Brazil and the world, so do

your best to make everyone feel welcome,” says one of the

organizers standing next to Jacque.

O sorriso, carisma, simpatia e cordialidade são aspecto mais

importante de ser um voluntário. "Além disso, lembre-se que

as pessoas virão de várias partes do Brasil e do mundo, então,

faz o seu melhor para que todos se sintam bem-vindos," diz um

dos organizadores ao lado da Jacque.

“The FUNDAY came to an end, but for me it is just beginning

with my new friend, Fuleco, you are so cute!” says Jacque

while talking with her mascot. Learning about the World Cup

was great experience for both sisters.

"O FUNDAY chegou ao fim, mas para mim é apenas o começo

com o meu novo amigo, Fuleco, você é tão bonitinho!" diz a

Jacque, enquanto fala com seu mascote. Aprender sobre a Copa

do Mundo foi ótima experiência para as duas irmãs.

The girls accompany their parents to a test event game on

training day at the stadium. Jacque and Cici are overjoyed to

participate in the World Cup. “Girls, today my job is help the

spectators around the stadium, and to find their seats - I have

a lot of responsibility,” says their father. “We are very pound of

our daddy,” say the girls giving him big hugs.

As meninas acompanham seus pais para um jogo de evento-

teste em dia de treino no estádio. Jacque e Cici estão muito

felizes em participar da Copa do Mundo. "Meninas, hoje meu

trabalho é ajudar os espectadores ao redor do estádio, e para

encontrar os seus lugares - eu tenho muita responsabilidade,"

diz o pai delas. "Estamos muito orgulhosas do nosso papai,"

dizem as meninas dando-lhe um grande abraço.

Tickets are sold to the test event; everything needs to run

smoothly exactly as the real games of the World Cup.

Volunteers get in free, but not Jacque and Cici, children are not

allowed to work in the FIFA World Cup. “We are happy anyway,

as students we paid half price for our tickets!” say the girls

already inside the stadium.

Os bilhetes são vendidos para o evento teste; tudo precisa

funcionar sem problemas, exatamente como os verdadeiros

jogos na Copa do Mundo. Voluntários entram de graça, mas não

a Jacque e a Cici, as crianças não estão autorizados a trabalhar

na Copa do Mundo da FIFA. "Estamos felizes de qualquer

maneira, como estudantes, pagamos meio preço pelo os nossos

bilhetes!" dizem as meninas já dentro do estádio.

Like in all of tournament in the World Cup, this test event has

the same beginning ceremonies, with a big flag and people

holding it in the middle of soccer field.

Como em todos os torneios da Copa do Mundo, este evento

teste tem as mesmas cerimônias, com uma grande bandeira, e

pessoas segurando-a no meio do campo de futebol.

Two regional teams will play today, Luverdense against Vasco.

Cici cheers loud for her favorite team, the green one,

Luverdense, that represents the city of Lucas do Rio Verde.

Jacque cheers for the Vasco team, in black and white, from Rio

de Janeiro. “Goaaal, my green team just made one goal as soon

as the game started,” says Cici happily.

Duas equipes regionais jogam Luverdense contra Vasco. Cici

grita alto para sua equipe favorita de verde, Luverdense, que

representa a cidade de Lucas do Rio Verde. A Jacque elogia a

equipe do Vasco, em preto e branco, da cidade do Rio de

Janeiro. "Goool, minha equipe verde fez um gol, logo no

começo do jogo," diz alegre a Cici.

The Pantanal Arena is located in the geographic heart of South

America, because of that balloons with hearts are handed out

to cheer with. Not all of the stadium construction is finished,

but regardless, Brazilian people are happy for the World Cup

being here, in the country that loves soccer.

A Arena Pantanal fica no centro geográfico da América do Sul,

por causa disso os balões com corações são entregues para os

torcedores. Nem toda a construção do estádio está concluída,

mas independentemente disso, o povo brasileiro está feliz com

a Copa do Mundo, e de estar aqui, no país que ama o futebol.

“Go Vasco!” says Jacque while trying understand the game.

“Go Luverdense! I want more goals - please!” says Cici. A

soccer game takes 90 minutes with only one 15 minute break

mid point in the game. The girls are very excited.

"Vá Vasco!" diz a Jacque ao tentar entender o jogo. "Vai

Luverdense! Eu quero mais gols, por favor!" diz a Cici. A partida

de futebol dura 90 minutos, com uma pausa de 15 minutos no

jogo. As meninas estão muito animadas.

Located in Zurich, Switzerland, FIFA schedules a World Cup

every four years in a different host country. Soccer players

must follow the rules of the referee in the game. Throw-ins,

corner kicks, goal kicks, fouls, direct and indirect free kicks,

penalty kick, two-touch rule, offside, and especially NO HANDS

are some those rules.

Em Zurique, na Suíça, a Copa do Mundo da FIFA é programada

para acontecer a cada quatro anos, em um país anfitrião

diferente. Os jogadores de futebol devem seguir as regras do

árbitro no jogo. Lançamento lateral, chutes de escanteio,

chutes a gol, faltas, tiros livres diretos e indiretos, cobrança de

pênalti, regra de dois toques, fora de campo, e principalmente,

SEM USAR AS MÃOS estão algumas dessas regras.

Cici. “That´s ok, the Vasco team made one goal and played

beautifully,” says Jacque.

"Luverdense fez dois gols, e me fez tão feliz!" diz a Cici. "Tudo

bem, o time Vasco fez um gol, e jogou lindo," diz a Jacque.

A huge cement replica of the official World Cup 2014 ball,

known as BRAZUCA, has been placed by the city of Cuiaba in

the New Bridge roundabout located at Miguel Sutil. “Let

pretend that we can hold this ball for the camera,” says Cici.

“Welcome to our city soccer fans,” says Jacque.

Uma enorme réplica de cimento da bola oficial da Copa do

Mundo 2014, conhecida como Brazuca, foi colocada pela

prefeitura de Cuiabá, na rotatória da Ponte Nova localizada na

Miguel Sutil. "Vamos fingir que nós podemos levantar esta bola

para a câmera," diz a Cici. "Bem-vindos fãs a nossa cidade do

futebol!" diz a Jacque.

All over Brazil, people and towns are decorated with the

national colors. “This is the Brazil flag; it looks like a green

soccer field with the yellow for the sun. And blue for the sky

with 27 stars and one message ORDER AND PROGRESS,” says

Jacque. “Green AND yellow are the strongest colors,” explains

Cici.

Em todo o Brasil, pessoas e cidades são decoradas com as

cores da bandeira nacional. "Esta é a bandeira do Brasil; parece

um campo verde de futebol com um sol amarelo. E céu azul

com 27 estrelas e tem uma mensagem ORDEM E PROGRESSO,"

diz a Jacque. "Verde e amarelo são as cores mais fortes,"

explica a Cici.

Before going to the streets to cheer for Brazil, these small

cheerleaders put on makeup. "Look, how beautiful my eye

shadow is!” says Cici. “I like mine better,” replies Jacque with

eyes closed.

Antes de ir às ruas para torcer pelo Brasil, estas pequenas

torcedoras colocam maquiagem. "Olha, como está linda minha

sombra!" diz a Cici. "Eu gosto mais da minha,” responda a

Jacque com os olhos fechados.

“This is me and Scolary, also called Felipão by Brazilians,” says

Jacque at the supermarket. Luiz Felipe Scolary is the national

team coach of Brazil and tomorrow on June 12th, his team will

play against the country of Croatia, which will open the World

Cup games at the Corinthians Arena in São Paulo. Far away

from the stadium, Jacque and Cici will go watch the game on

TV at a restaurant in their city.

"Esta sou eu e o Scolary, também chamado de Felipão pelos

brasileiros," diz a Jacque no supermercado. Luiz Felipe Scolary

é o treinador da equipe nacional do Brasil, amanhã 12 de

junho, ele e sua equipe vão jogar contra o país da Croácia, que

abrirá aos jogos da Copa do Mundo na Arena Corinthians, em

São Paulo. Bem longe do estádio, Jacque e Cici vão assistir aos

jogos pela TV em um restaurante de sua cidade.

“Hooray, finally the games of the World Cup have started,” says

Jacque anxiously. “Brazil is our favorite team,” says Cici.

"Obá, finalmente começa os jogos da Copa do Mundo," diz a

Jacque ansiosa. "Brasil é o nosso time favorito," diz a Cici.

The national anthems of both teams are played in the opening

of the game. “Are you ready to watch?” asks Cici. “I'm ready,

and expecting Brazil to win this game,” answers Jacque. “So,

let’s get going and watch it on TV,” they say excitedly.

Os hinos nacionais de ambas as equipes são tocados no jogo de

abertura. "Você está pronto para assistir o jogo?" pergunta a

Cici. "Sim, estou pronta, e espero que o Brasil ganha este

jogo," responde a Jacque. "Então, vamos ver na TV," dizem elas

“Brazil just got a goal. I love you little sister!” says cheerleader

Jacque. “I love you too, big sister,” says cheerleader Cici.

These children are not at the Corinthians Arena in Sao Paulo

where the game is, but they carry the same weight of the home

country´s expectations just watching on the TV with others

soccer fans in their city.

"Brasil já fez um gol. Te amo irmãzinha!” diz a torcedora

Jacque. "Eu também te amo, irmãzona!" diz a torcedora Cici.

Estas crianças não estão na Arena Corinthians, em São Paulo,

onde o jogo acontece, porém elas têm as mesmas expectativas

do país da casa, apenas assistindo aos jogos pela TV com

outros fãs do futebol em sua cidade.

Three referees, also called judges, come onto the soccer field,

but only one is in total command of the game. The referee

authorizes and Brazil and Croatia start playing, the World Cup

begins.

Três árbitros, também chamados por juízes, chegam ao campo

de futebol, mas apenas um está no comando total do jogo. Só

agora, o Brasil e a Croácia iniciam a partida. O árbitro autoriza,

começa a Copa do Mundo.

Oh, no! Croatia gets the first goal, but it was made by Marcelo

on the Brazilian team. “Goal to number 10, Neymar,” this is his

first goal in the World Cup. “Penalty!” Neymar kicks the penalty

and make his second goal. “Goal for Oscar, number 11!” Brazil

wins three to Croatia’s one. People all around us scream, and

the city shoots fireworks when Brazil scorea a goal.

Oh, não! Croácia recebe o primeiro gol, mas foi feito por

Marcelo na seleção brasileira. "Gol do número 10, Neymar,"

este é o seu primeiro gol na Copa do Mundo. "Pênalti!" Neymar

chuta o pênalti e faz seu segundo gol. "Gol para Oscar, número

11!" O Brasil ganha três a um da Croácia. Pessoas gritam

envoltas, e a cidade solta rojões quando o Brasil acerta gol.

The next day, Jacque and Cici´s parents get their accreditation

at the Volunteer Center. “Now starts the real game at Pantanal

Arena, and my daddy got his nametag for work,” says Cici while

looking at the other volunteers. “It is a busy time at check-in

day,” says Jacque.

No dia seguinte, os pais da Jacque e Cici conseguiram o

credenciamento no Centro de Voluntariado. "Agora começa

realmente o jogo na Arena Pantanal, e o meu pai já tem o seu

crachá para o trabalho," diz Cici enquanto olha para os outros

voluntários. "É agitado o dia do check-in," diz a Jacque.

Finally, Jacque and Cici´s dad wears his official uniform of the

Word Cup. “I'm surprised I got so many gifts from FIFA on top

of doing what I enjoy,” says their father in front of the

stadium.

Finalmente, o pai da Jacque e Cici veste o uniforme oficial da

Copa do Mundo. "Estou surpreso que tenho ganhado tantos

presentes da FIFA pra fazer o que eu gosto," diz o pai delas em

frente ao estádio.

This area is the Youth Programme. Here, volunteers need to

like children and teenagers. This is Alan, a boy who goes to the

field with the other 21 children that selected by lottery to

participate in the entrance ceremony. Today the game is

between Chile and Australia. “Who wants to meet Fuleco, the

mascot of the World Cup?” asks one the volunteers.

Esta área é o Youth Programme. Aqui, os voluntários precisam

gostar de crianças e adolescentes. Este é o Alan, um menino

que vai para o campo com as demais 21 crianças selecionadas

em sorteio para participar da cerimônia de entrada. Hoje o jogo

é entre o Chile e Austrália. "Quem quer conhecer Fuleco, o

mascote da Copa do Mundo?" pergunta uma das voluntárias.

Jacque and Cici are not here for this pre-game activity, but over

one thousand other children between six and ten years old

from across Brazil were selected to participate in the

“McDonald´s Player Escort Program”. These are happy kids,

and this group holds their certificates to prove it.

Jacque e Cici não estão aqui para esta atividade pré-jogo,

porém mais de mil outras crianças entre seis e dez anos de

idade de todo o Brasil, foram selecionadas a participar do

"McDonald Programa Sonho de Craque." Estas são crianças

felizes, e este grupo tem seus certificados para provar isto.

This is Jacque and Cici´s Mom, also a volunteer; she is helping

and having fun with the World Cup´s mascot. “Kids, the game

is about to start, Fuleco has to go get ready and we have to go

practice,” she says. “The children hold the players´ hands in

the opening ceremonies when entering the field, and you will

do this soon,” explains Jacque and Cici´s mom.

Esta aqui é a mãe da Jacque e Cici e também uma voluntária;

ela esta ajudando, e se divertindo com o mascote da Copa do

Mundo. "Crianças, o jogo está para começar, Fuleco tem que ir

pra casa e nós temos que praticar,” diz ela. “As crianças da

cerimônia de abertura segura nas mãos dos jogadores ao

entrar em campo, e vocês irão fazer isso logo,” explica a mãe

da Jacque e Cici.

A small group of teenagers go first, they present the four flags:

FIFA, My Game is Fair Play, and the two national flags of the

teams that will play. Then, after that, the smaller children will

take the hands of the 22 players, and go out onto the soccer

field. Quickly, children leave the ceremony to meet their

parents that wait in the spectator area and the match starts.

Um pequeno grupo de adolescentes vão em primeiro, eles

apresentam as quatro bandeiras: FIFA, My Game is Fair Play, e

as duas bandeiras nacionais das equipes que vão jogar. Então,

depois que as crianças menores dão as mãos aos 22 jogadores,

e elas caminham para o campo de futebol. As crianças deixam a

cerimônia para encontrar com seus pais, que as esperam na

área de espectador, e a partida inicia.

During the World Cup, the Pantanal Arena will host four group

matches: Chile vs. Australia, Russia vs. Korea Republic, Nigeria

vs. Bosnia and Japan vs. Colombia. Right now, Chileans and

Australians are arriving to watch their team; Chile has the

biggest crowd.

Durante a Copa do Mundo, a Arena Pantanal irá sediar quatro

jogos do grupo: Chile vs Austrália, Rússia contra a Coréia do

Sul, Nigéria contra a Bósnia e Japão x Colômbia. Neste

momento, chilenos e australianos estão chegando para assistir

seu time; Chile tem o maior público.

After two quick goals from Alex Sanches and Jorge Valdivia,

Chile is wining 2-1. Tim Cahill made the one goal for Australia,

buy his team failed to score any more goals.

de dois gols rápidos de Alex Sanches e Jorge Valdivia, Chile

Back home, Jacque and Cici are waiting the return of their

parents. For being good daughters, the girls are given gifts

from the World Cup; the official uniform of FIFA and all these

other presents. Jacque and Cici really enjoy playing volunteer.

De volta para casa, Jacque e Cici estão esperando o retorno de

seus pais. Por ser boas filhas, as meninas recebem presentes

de Copa do Mundo; o uniforme oficial da FIFA e todos estes

outros presentes. Jacque e Cici se divertem brincando de
