Our 2016 calendar celebrates the 800th anniversary of theDominican Order with a gallery of luminaries from thelong list of Dominican saints and blesseds. The images,
carved in wood, stone, and marble, are all fromSt. Dominic’s Church, SF, home of the Shrine.
In 1206, Dominic de Guzman, sub-prior of canons at thecathedral of Osma, Spain, received the inspiration to launch
what would become the Order of Preachers, approval for whichwas granted by Pope Honorius III in December 1216. Pray for
Dominicans worldwide a happy eight-hundredth birthday!
