The New World of Work = 3 pillars:

People/management style: People are given space to develop themselves. A healthy balance between work and home. Move from “command and control” to self direction and own initiatives.

Technology: Using of the latest technology available so that colleagues always are in touch with the information and resources they need to work, collaborate and communicate.

Workspace: The office becomes a meeting place for innovation and collaboration. Spaces are re-organised to be more “task-oriented”.

Results

Colleagues are more energetic, they have more control over workload, get more out of themselves, work in the way that best suits them.

Colleagues do more in less time. They can work from home, avoid traffic jams, use video conferencing with clients or colleagues.

Focus on results, not attendance. A cultural shift towards greater openness, commitment and trust.

Better employer for new talent. Because we give people space, and technology they like.

Organization is greener and (cost) efficient. Less travel, less office space, and digital processes instead of paper.

Task-oriented spaces

and work for a few hours Focus/quiet room: small quiet private office, allows you to work without

interruptions, make private calls Meeting room: quiet zone for small to large group meetings Café space: less format environment to chat, work and drink Breakout/Lounge area: informal space with lounge chairs for relaxation, reading and

relationship building

Open office space: tips

Long tablesMake sure people can sit anywhere, avoid legs/drawers...Foresee 2 meter per person.

This allows someone to sit in between and quickly review somethingMake tables deep enough (90 cm or more)Easy access to power plugs (laptop/mobile phone)

Visual distractionAvoid facing people to zones with lots of movementAdd “wall” of 1,2m height to create space isolation

Acoustic distractionUse acoustic panels to cancel echo and noise (VERY IMPORTANT!!)Mask background noises with soft radio music

Keep it open and transparent (use glass)

Focus/quiet room: tips

Keep them small: Quiet area for 1-2 or 3 people2,5 by 5 meter is perfectLong desk without legs (3-4 meter)

No disturbing elementsNobody should need to enter the room except to work thereDon’t put drawers or cabinets in these rooms. We don’t want to disturb people who are

working! Acoustic isolation

Use door and walls that makes the room really quietUse acoustic panels to cancel echo and noise

Visual distractionFace the people to a window or wall so they are not disturbed by movementUse a glass door so we can see if the room is free, and who is working there
