Opening Title Research

The Opening sequence I’m using is The Walking Dead, from the sequence I’m meant to be analyzing what effect the font has on the audience, the colours have been used, the connotations and if it’s capitalized.

The font would have an effect on the audience that would make the audience feel unnerved along the lines of that. The effect that the producer would want the font to have on the audience would be to make them feel disturbed, frightened e.t.c

Throughout the opening sequence it uses very dull colour, it’s a sort of dull green/grey/brown colour. This creates the impression of sadness and despair, which relates to the genre and the narrative of the Walking Dead show as the show is set in a post-apocalyptic era.

The Screenshot above is a connotation for death, as if you see a grave you immediately think of death and dead people, which also relates to the shows theme.

This shot is also a connotation; the shot is of an abandoned house that appears to be in a forest. This connotes with the genre of the show, an abandoned house is a convention a the horror genre.

The names of the actors that play the main characters appear on the screen, in order it shows, Andrew Lincoln, Sarah Wayne Callies, Laurie Holden, Norman Reedus, Steven Yeun, Lauren Cohan, Chandler Riggs and Danai Gurira

The font that is used is unknown but you can see from the image below what font is used, the font is unusual because it has a mix of effects. The first name of the actor/actress isn’t bold whereas the last name is. They move slightly across the screen from where they start, the camera pans so that could give it the impression that the writing is moving

They tell the audience who’s in the show and it gives the show star power, the font tells the audience the show could be intense as the scenes along with the font gives it a feeling of intensity and suspense.
