Forum essentials

• What is the Open IPTV Forum?– A global organization involving many of the key stakeholders in the IPTV market

• What are the Forum goals?– To create an end-user mass market for IPTV– To accelerate the introduction and deployment of IPTV– To ease the integration of end-to-end IPTV solutions– To facilitate the creation of IPTV services

• Why is the Forum needed?– No consensual standards exist for IPTV– Diverse implementation is a barrier to IPTV evolution and growth– Harmonization of IPTV infrastructure and service development reduces risk for all

stakeholders

• What does the Forum do?– Agree and publish end-to-end specifications for standardized IPTV solutions and services

Forum essentials• Who benefits from the work of the Open IPTV Forum?

– Service Providers can reduce integration costs and focus on service features and revenue generation

– Technology and Equipment Suppliers benefit from clear specifications which help ensure interoperability

– Content and Applications Vendors know the capabilities and limitations of the IPTV systems they use

• How does the Forum operate?– The steering group provides guidance on the general directions of the Forum and approves the

Forum's deliverables– Starting with Service and Platform requirements and a Functional Architecture - technical

specifications are developed by the Working Groups.– Where possible existing standards from established standards bodies are used.

• What is the Forum timeline?– Requirements and architecture specifications for Release 1 are already available from the

Forum's website.– The Release 1 Technical Specifications will be published during 2008.– As IPTV service expectations continue to evolve, the Forum will revise and extend the published

specifications in subsequent Releases.
