Issue• Online classes have been reserved for AP Students, students could

take online courses from U of I, but only at North High School

• W.I.T. has some “Great Starts” classes that are online. These are dual credit. Currently there are 27 NHS students, 19 at EHS and 2 at WHS.

• Struggling learners at NHS and EHS can use Plato in the Academic Enhancement Center. These are NOT online courses, just online content for credit recovery.

• General Student population has no course offerings that are strictly online.

through Moodle (Modular Object-Oriented Dynamic Learning Environment)

Introducing Pinnacle Instruction

Page 6: Online Courses

Course Management Systems

• Advantages to Pinnacle over Moodle:– Gradebook and Curriculum viewer are in the same

place.– Online Assessments go directly to Gradebook.– Teachers can build discussion boards and add

assignments directly from one login screen– Students can view assignments and gradebook

and messages from teachers all from one screen.

Resourcing

• Personnel– Need teachers that will spend time building online courses

for credit to offer in our course catalog.– Need course components to be developed that can be

used for credit recovery in Academic Enhancement Centers.

– Need Advanced Placement course opportunities developed to be taken in an online or hybrid style.

• Student E-mail (coming Fall 2010)– Student’s taking online courses will need access to

communication tool, such as email or messaging service.

Way Ahead
