The guardians for tomorrowWe all remember the SARS and H1N1 pandemic episodes that took lives across the globe.

As health care frontiers, it is important that we are always prepared for any pandemic outbreaks.

The MOH Pandemic Preparedness Exercise held on 19 January 2013 tested SHP-Marine Parade’s readiness and efficiency to manage such a situation.

A temporary vaccination centre was set up near the polyclinic and staff from various polyclinics played different roles in different scenarios.

The exercise provided valuable learning points to improve our procedures and preparedness.

Better health begins with researchResearch plays an important role in our health care system, as research studies provide insights to the occurrences of health issues that are pertinent to us and the results allow us to improve our care to our patients.

To enhance the skills of our research talents, Dr Tan Ngiap Chuan, Director for Research, Dr Peter Moey, Director for SHP-Pasir Ris, Dr Andrew Wee, Family Physician for SHP-Marine Parade and Nurse Manager Fong Mew Kengh from SHP-Geylang, attended the Health Services Research (HSR) Intermediate Training Course from 28 January to 1 February 2013.

They were taught on various tools and components to conduct a research study and how to translate the research to a scientific paper. CARE FOR RESEARCH: Taking a group photo with the

at SHP-Marine ParadeWe were impressed with Dr Yap Chee Mun for his skills, diligence and attentiveness. He gave us useful health tips and allow us to better managed our health. Whenever we visit the clinic, we will seek his consultation.

His attentiveness helps me avoid a visit to the Ophthalmologist recently.

at SHP-BedokI had a hard time searching my bag for my child’s health booklet as I was carrying my baby. HA Sim Siew Bee helped me opened my bag while I searched for the booklet.

During vaccination, SN Karuppaya and SSN Lim Khar Tiang were great by providing comfort for my baby throughout the process. They also explained the post-vaccination information to me in details.
