Chance to Start AgainHaitian Esdras Hector, who speaks

six languages, including Portuguese, is

the new Administrative Assistant at the

Teles Pires Hydroelectric Power Plant –

undertaken by Odebrecht Energia at

the border between the Brazilian states

of Mato Grosso and Pará. During his

daily work routine, the youth supports

countrymen who, like him, immigrated to

Brazil.

Hector currently also supports the

educators of the Professional Qualification

Program – Acreditar (Aspire) when

adapting the content of the course

textbooks into French and Creole, Haiti’s

official languages. “I seek to orient them

that this is an opportunity not only for

financial gain, but also for professional

growth and the acquisition of knowledge,”

said the Member, who plans to keep

studying Portuguese.

Odebrecht Energia has already hired

42 Haitians to work at the Teles Pires HPP

construction site and approximately 100

are currently being recruited for the Santo

On January 16, representatives

from the People and Organization

area at the Teles Pires HPP traveled

to Brasiléia, in Acre, to select

Haitians, receiving the support of

the local government. The new Teles

intensive Portuguese classes and will

participate in special Acreditar classes

in order to learn the functions of civil

construction.

Those selected during the

recruitment process for the Santo

should be contracted still in February

and will participate in guided tours,

integration activities and safety

training, in addition to completing

in the Basic Acreditar Module

with immersion in the Portuguese

language.

In addition to Odebrecht Energia,

Odebrecht Infraestrutura and ETH

Bioenergia are also contributing toward

the social and economic inclusion of

Haitian immigrants in Brazil.

very important to adapt them to the

customs of our country and the culture

of our company, just as it is crucial to

prepare the leaders who will interact

directly with the new Members,” said

Wendel Soares.

After the technical training courses,

the group will work in different areas

involved with the production of

The Community Tire

Recycling Micro-Business

Owner Project, developed by

Odebrecht Angola through

the Special Economic Zone

(SEZ) and Luanda Waters

Reinforcement (LWR), in

partnership with the NGO

Kambas do Bem, is completing

its two-year anniversary.

The initiative fosters the

entrepreneurial potential

of the communities located

near the project, with aims of

reducing the rate of endemic

diseases, helping generate

work and income and

encouraging environmental

preservation.

Implemented in February

2010, the project emerged

with aims of stopping the

inappropriate disposal of

used tires, which has a major

environmental and social

impact and also causes health

damage – considering that the

accumulation of the water in the

tires leads to the proliferation

of insects that transmit diseases

such as malaria, dengue, yellow

fever, hepatitis and filariasis

(elephantitis). “The Members,

who are also residents of the

communities located in the area

of influence, began to sell the

products created using the tire

rubber, which they made at their

homes,” explained Telma Handa,

Social Educator of the SEC and

LWR projects.

The initiative trained

residents to reuse the tires

discarded at the contract sites

to create objects for personal

use, such as sandals, decorations

and furniture, including vases,

armchairs, tables and chairs,

among others.

In order to complete

the project, four Members

were identified and trained

by an artist to multiply

the methodology in the

communities. Odebrecht

Angola and Kambas do Bem

provided the tools necessary to

start the work.

In two years, the program

helped increase the extra

income of Members/artists, add

value to public cleaning and

improve the quality of life of the

population. “In 2012, we hope

that these artists will train other

residents from the community

and play the role of multipliers of

knowledge,” said Handa.

Each month, every artist can earn 15,000 Kwanzas by selling the products manufactured using recycled material

Connected by the Desire to Grow

The Spirit of Serving marks the

personality of Michele Schiavetto, age

28, Member of Odebrecht Infraestrutura.

A resident of the city of São Paulo, she

works on the People and Organization

team at Aquapolo, the project that carries

reuse water to the Capuava Petrochemical

Center, located in Mauá. “I believe that I

can contribute more by working directly

with the client, with those out at the

point,” explained Schiavetto, indicating

the reason for choosing to move the

office to a contract. Communication and

community relations are some of her

current responsibilities.

Located kilometers from Schiavetto, in

Bahia’s Southern Lowlands, Islândia dos

Santos, age 16, already knows what she

wants for her future: to become a rural

entrepreneur. The daughter of a farmer

and resident of the community of São

What connects the lives of these two

In 2011, Tribute to the Future raised R$ 4.7 million that will be invested in 14 educational and production projects in the Bahia Southern Lowlands, benefitting more than 5,000 youth

As an Agent of the Future, Schiavetto

works to ensure that Santos and more than

5,000 other youth are directly benefitted

by financial support in educational and

production projects. Influencing work

colleagues to participate in the program,

Schiavetto was one of the individuals

responsible for raising R$ 4.7 million during

the 2011 campaign.

In all, 4,129 investors, including

Members and partners of the

Odebrecht Organization, joined the

program last year. “For me, the most

important thing is the contribution,

regardless of the amount donated,”

said Schiavetto. Among those

projects covered by the investments

are the training of the Young Rural

Entrepreneurs from the Family Homes,

the Reading Circles and Wired.

With Tribute to the Future, the

Members of the Organization

collaborate with actions tied to the

Bahia Southern Lowlands Environmental

Protection Area Mosaic Integrated

and Sustainable Development

Program (PDIS) that promote quality

rural education and the professional

training of young talents from the

region. Supported by the Odebrecht

Foundation, the teaching institutions

integrated with PDIS have made a

difference in the communities in which

they operate. “I dedicate my youth to

agriculture and I’m certain that it is

possible to live out in the country and

earn good income,” assured Santos.

Clovis Faleiro, the professional

responsible for Institutional Relations

at the Odebrecht Foundation and

Leader of Tribute to the Future,

complemented: “The program allows

On January 17, along the

left bank of the Xingu River

in Pará, the construction

consortium responsible for

the Belo Monte Hydroelectric

Power Plant, of which

Odebrecht Energia is

part, began building the

cofferdam.

Located between the

islands Ilha do Forno and

Ilha Pimental, the cofferdam,

which extends 500 meters,

will bypass a part of the river

to allow the machines to

access the area of the plant’s

future complementary power

station. It is being built using

earth and rocks, without the

need for concrete or any

other industrial material.

The Belo Monte HPP will

have an installed power of

11,233 MW and will generate

approximately 35,000 direct

job opportunities during the

peak of the work.

At the start of this year, Odebrecht Oil

and Gas (OOG) renewed the international

certifications OHSAS 18.001:2007, associated

with the Management of Occupational

Health and Safety Systems, ISO 14.001:2004,

which assessed the company as to its

Environmental Management and the ISO

9.001:2008, based on Quality Management.

The main focus areas of the standards

include: identification of hazards, risks and

controls, readiness and responses during

emergencies, establishment of operational

procedures, promotion of improvements in

environmental performance, waste control,

prevention of pollution, focus on the client,

leadership and mutual benefits in supplier

relations. The strategic administration of

such items promotes a productive work

environment, allowing OOG to improve its

legal compliance and the Organization’s

performance.

According to Marco Aurélio Fonseca,

Sustainability Director, Odebrecht’s

voluntary search and compliance with

the proposed requirements generate a

competitive advantage. “The certifications

renewed reflect OOG’s commitment to the

systemic and sustainable management of

Workplace Safety, Occupational Health and

Environment, strengthening our image as a

socially responsible company,” said Fonseca.

“Our focus is prevention, not correction,” he

said.

The certifications involve everything from

the offer of management, engineering, civil

construction, maintenance and industrial

assembly services, to drill and production

rigs and processing and storage terminals.

Corinthians Stadium: 25% of Construction Work Completed

With the start of the third shift in January of this year, the construction work stops for less than two hours per day

From left to right: Antonio Gavioli, Valter Lana, Aldo Rebelo and Cláudio Melo Filho, Director at Odebrecht

Currently being completed

by Odebrecht Infraestrutura

in São Paulo, the construction

of the Corinthians Stadium,

the site that will house the

opening of the World Cup and

an additional five games, is now

25.34% completed. Currently,

1,200 Members, divided into

three different shifts, are

working to build the stadium.

In the East building, the

most advanced sector of the

construction, eight levels of

the grandstands have already

been installed. The installation

of the piles, which began in

July of last year, is already 85%

complete. The company has

also installed 520 concrete

blocks, 61 pillars and 4

concrete beams.

On February 2, the Minister

of Sports, Aldo Rebelo, visited

the construction work for the

stadium. Accompanied by

Mayor Gilberto Kassab and the

Coordination Secretary for the

World Cup in São Paulo, Gilmar

Tadeu, the minister stated that

he is satisfied with the project’s

progress: “We have verified that

everything is on schedule,” said

Rebelo. “More than a project

for Corinthians, the stadium

represents a great deal to São

Paulo and Brazil.”

Gilberto Kassab emphasized

the project’s importance as

a catalyst for development.

“The stadium will bring several

benefits for the city’s Eastern

Zone and will generate several

job opportunities over the

next 20 years,” said Kassab. The

visitors were welcomed by

Valter Lana, Managing Director

of Odebrecht Infraestrutura,

and Antonio Gavioli, Contract

Director.

Youth and children who are students of public and private schools take part in Ecotrail, one of the PEA initiatives supported by Odebrecht Realizações

sub-programs: Ecotrail, Prospera,

Communicate, Proger and Green

Ecotrail, which is frequented

by children and youth from public

and private institutions, promotes

the creation of ecological trails

in Atlantic Forest areas, raises

awareness on aspects related

to environmental preservation

and undertakes the ecological

restoration and production

of native seedlings. Prospera

promotes the development of

awareness raising and social-

environmental conservation

actions at public and private

schools, and Communicate

communication between the PEA’s

subprograms and the institutions.

Proger is a program focused on

waste management and selective

collection that orients users about

the importance of reducing,

reusing and recycling or discarding

materials at the appropriate sites.

Green Building involves guided

tours by schools, universities and

communities located near the

Odebrecht head office in Salvador

in order to demonstrate the use

of the concepts, technicians and

procedures recognized as being

models of sustainability.

“It is a major event for OR to

be able to support a recognized

program,” said Fábio Wanderley,

the professional responsible for the

Administrative and Financial area for

the North-Northeastern Regional

sector at OR. “Taking advantage of

the knowledge that already exists

in the initiative and increasing and

extending it to our environments

and local communities increases

the value and reaffirms our

Launched in September of last year by Odebrecht Peru, the book Perú-Brasil: Sabor

a Futuro (“Peru-Brazil: Flavor of the Future”) was the winner in the category of Best

Corporate Book in Peru as part of the 2011 Gourmand Award – considered the ‘Oscar’

of gastronomy.

The gastronomic publication, which features recipes created especially for the

edition by renowned Peruvian and Brazilian chefs, is the only one in Peru that, besides

being a book of high gastronomy, presents a proposal of integration between the

chefs, who promote the responsible use of products from the Peruvian and Brazilian

Amazon.

O Gourmand Award is the main

reference among cook and

beverage books published

worldwide and has 41 categories

for cookbooks and 18 for

publications on beverages. For

this edition, 283 finalists were

nominated for awards in their

organizers, the criterion for defining

the winners is quality and not the

number of sales.

Airport project, currently being undertaken by

Odebrecht International in Mozambique.

During the selection phase, held on January

12 and 13, 681 people signed up to participate in

the program, which has local monitors trained by

the company.

According to Leonardo Ribeiro, Contract

Director, the launch of Aspire in Nacala

represents the establishment of new

perspectives for the community: “It is an

opportunity for us to cooperate with the

development of the country, Mozambique

citizens and the future of these people,” said

Ribeiro.

The initiative will benefit 1,300 people,

with 1,000 in the Basic Cycle and 300 in the

Specific Cycle. The first addresses topics such

as Workplace Safety, Environment, Quality,

Occupational Psychology and Health, including

support to help Members increase their

schooling level. During the initial phase of the

program, the Specific Cycle offers qualification

for the functions of Bricklayer, Carpenter,

Blacksmith, Plumber and Building Electrician.

“Acreditar is the chance we have to learn a

profession and help with Nacala’s development,”

said student Ramadane Chalate. For instructor

Lucas Mavira, the program will grow as the

participants receive their certificates. “We hope

to create notoriety for the initiative in the city

and train many people,” he said.

work is developed under the

supervision and orientation

of specialized monitors.

During a three-year period,

participants learn about rural

administration, cooperativism,

soil management, irrigation and

drainage, as well as a range of

different cultivations.

“With the knowledge

acquired at the Igrapiúna Rural

Family Home [CFR-I], I have

already achieved some great

results and I’m prepared to

develop my horticulture project

in 2012. Through this and other

initiatives, I hope to improve

my family’s income and set an

example,” said Jossilma Brito, a

student at CFR-I.

Andressa Dirlane, a new

student at the Agroforest Family

Home (Cfaf), located in Nilo

Peçanha, can hardly contain

her excitement. “The course

that is beginning will promote

a human and professional

transformation in our lives,” she

said. “I saw this already during

the inaugural class.”

During the last week in January, Odebrecht

Infraestrutura opened the doors to the

Embraport Terminal project in Santos for a visit

by 280 children of Members between the ages of

6 and 14.

The visit was designed to present the

children with a first-time explanation about the

importance and work routine of their parents

and the extension of the project. For one day,

the youth took part in workshops, a bus tour

throughout the construction site and a boat ride

along the city’s coastline.

According to Henrique Marchesi, Contract

Director, the initiative fulfilled its objective of

bringing the families together. “This is important

for helping them recognize the importance and

better understand their parent’s work routine,”

said Marchesi. Reynaldo Pincette, Administrative

and Financial Manager, participated directly

in the project’s creation together with the

communication team. “In addition to the positive

result, we are helping to attract future Members

to the Organization,” he said.

The Members and parents approved of the

idea. “The program was important to me and to

my family, since I had the opportunity to show

my work, helping my daughter become more

familiar with what I do,” said carpenter Adjaci

Timóteo.

Marcelo Pereira, the professional responsible

for Networks, stated that, for his daughter, it

was a different day full of new things: “For her

and for many other children, learning about the

work of her father and mother was something

of great interest,” said Pereira. “It is a day they will

remember forever.”
