In this study, the ratio of the serum concentration (ng/ml):daily dose (mg/day) of olanzapine was assessed in 134 patients receiving olanzapine alone, and 31 patients who received olanzapine in combination with sertraline 50–150mg or fluvoxamine 50–150mg, all once daily. * The mean serum concentration:daily dose ratio of olanzapine was significantly higher in patients who were also receiving concomitant fluvoxamine, compared with those receiving olanzapine only (5.3 vs 2.3). Concomitant administration of sertraline did not significantly alter the mean serum concentration:daily dose ratio of olanzapine. The researchers conclude that the combination of fluvoxamine and olanzapine should be used cautiously and controlled by therapeutic drug monitoring’. * One patient received fluvoxamine 300mg.
