WHAT WE WOULD DO DIFFERENTLY

Page 15: OK Commerce Workforce Policy

WHAT WE WOULD DO DIFFERENTLY?

YOU CAN CHANGE 2, BUT NOT 3 EFFECTIVELY, AND NOT 4 AT ALL!

ALWAYS FOLLOW THE MONEY; SPEND THE MONEY

FUND BOTH OUTREACH AND A COMMUNICATION INITIATIVES

REMEMBER WHO YOUR CUSTOMER IS: GOVERNOR? LEO’S? STAKEHOLDERS? DOL? ASK THEM HOW YOU’RE DOING – OFTEN!

TALK WITH EMPLOYERS TOO, NOT ALWAYS THROUGH INTERMEDIARIES.

KEEP A COACH(ES) TALK WITH THEM.

READ; LISTEN TO A VARIETY OF ‘EXPERTS’.

THEN, TRUST YOUR GUT!

Key Questions we will need to answer in our Recovery plan

What is the Governor’s vision for ensuring a continuum of education and training opportunities that support a skilled and credentialed workforce?

“4400” more credentialed Oklahomans with ARRA?

Identify the Governor’s key workforce investment system priorities and how each will lead to actualizing the Governor’s vision for workforce and economic development.

Which priorities will make Oklahoma more competitive in 2012?

Describe innovative service delivery strategies that the state has or is planning to undertake to maximize resources, increase service levels, improve service quality, achieve better integration and meet other key state goals.

Page 22: OK Commerce Workforce Policy

4 Priority Categories

infrastructure, re-think the model and be creative: Initial focus on youth (emerging workers)

connect them to employers and their skill needs. Business Services to support sectors, employee retention, layoff aversion
