Materials needed for Computer-Based Testing (TAM, P. 11)

PARCC-supplied material– Student Authorization Tickets– Seal Codes

School-supplied material– Wooden No. 2 pencil(s) with eraser(s)– Blank scratch paper (start with 2 sheets)– Test Administrators must supply blank scratch paper for each student at

the beginning of each unit. Additional pages may be provided during testing as needed.

– Calculators (as outlined in the calculator policy)– Timing device such as a clock or watch, to keep track of time during testing

Allowable calculators (TAM, p. 11-12)

• For grades 6-7, students may only use a four-function calculator with square root and percentage functions.

• For grade 8, students may use only scientific calculators. • A calculator will be provided using the TestNav platform as well.• Students can only use a calculator on the designated calculator section of the

assessment.• If schools or districts permit students to bring their own hand-held calculators for

PARCC assessment purposes, Test Administrators must confirm that the calculators meet PARCC requirements as defined above.

• Additionally, schools must adhere to the following guidance regarding calculators:– No calculators with Computer Algebra System (CAS) features are allowed.– No tablet, laptop (or PDA), or phone-based calculators are allowed during PARCC

assessments.– Students are not allowed to share calculators with another student during a test unit.– Test Administrators must confirm that the memory on all calculators has been cleared

before and after the testing units.– Calculators with “QWERTY” keyboards are not permitted.

• For students who meet the guidelines for a calculation device, this accommodation allows a calculation device to be used on noncalculator sections of any PARCC Mathematics Assessment.

Mathematical Tools (TAM, P.12-13)

Geometry Tools• Tracing paper, reflection tools, straight edge and compass are

allowable materials for the grade 8 mathematics test. These are not required tools but can be made available to students if they use the tools regularly during instruction. Geometry tools are not allowed for grades 6 and 7.

Headphones (TAM, p. 13)

• Headphones are needed for ELA/Literacy PBA units or for students who receive the text-to-speech accommodation for the ELA/Literacy assessments or the accessibility features for the Mathematics assessments.

• Volume controls appear before the start of each unit. Therefore, the volume can only be adjusted prior to beginning the test—attempting to adjust the volume later may cause TestNav to close.

Make-Up Testing

• Students who are absent, become ill, or who can no longer test because of classroom, school, or technical interruptions during original units, may utilize make-up testing.

• Students are not allowed to return to any portion of the test they have already completed.

• Test security and administration protocols apply.• Units may be taken out of order for make-up testing only.

• Every testing location should have proper lighting, ventilation and be at a comfortable temperature

• To maintain security in a computer-based testing environment, PARCC suggests configurations for seating student

• During a unit, “stand-and-stretch” breaks of UP TO 3 MINUTES may be permitted at the discretion of the Test Administrator.

• Do not allow talking among students during breaks.

• Students are not permitted to use electronic devices, play games, or engage in activities that may violate the validity of the test.

• The test administrator has the authority to dismiss any student for misconduct.

• Collect the student’s test materials and close their test session. They will be dismissed from the exam room with no opportunity to make-up/retake missed questions (if test has already started).

• The test administrator may recommend test invalidation. • Make sure you go into TestNav and exit the student’s test

• Test administrators are required to adhere to the script provided in this manual for administering the PARCC ELA/Math assessments

• Read word-for-word all text that is boxed and printed in bold type and preceded by the word: SAY. – You may not modify or paraphrase the wording in the SAY boxes.

• Test Administrators are permitted to clarify only general administration instructions after reading the script word-for-word.

• Display a timing box on the board– Do not fill in the Starting Time or Stopping Time lines until instructed to do so

in the scripts.

• Make sure you keep accurate time for each session. If a session has a 90 minute allotment, then the test session should ONLY be 90 minutes!

• Students will remain for the initial session time, even if they finish early.• No test session can be extended beyond one school day (extended time is

only allowable in cases in which an IEP specifically denotes that accommodation)

Guidance for Troubleshooting Computer-based Testing

• When a technology disruption affecting a single student occurs, Test Administrators should follow these steps:

‒ Note the time of the disruption.‒ Follow procedures on troubleshooting and support.‒ If issue persist move the student to another testing device.‒ Document the situation in writing.

During Testing: Security Breaches

1. All instances of security breaches and testing irregularities must be reported to the School Test Coordinator, immediately.

2. The Form to Report a Testing Irregularity or Security Breach must be completed within two school days of the incident.

3. Be prepared to provide a written statement of the incident to your School Test Coordinator should a security breach or testing irregularity occur.

Resume a Student - when student exits a test (intentionally or unintentionally)

Before student can finish the test session/unit, the Test Administrator (you) must Resume the student

To do this – (see next slides for screen shots)• Select the student from your session list• Select Resume Student Tests from the task list (top left of screen)• Click Start• Select student again from list and click Resume

Only students in Active or Exited status can be resumed

Since students Exit when finished with a Unit, if there is another Unit to be taken you must Resume EACH student before starting the next Unit!
