My aim is to bring about a psychic state in which my patient begins to experiment with his own nature – a state of fluidity, change, and growth where nothing is eternally fixed and hopelessly petrified. Where Soul Meets Matter Clinical and Social Applications:

Aspects of Jungian Sandplay Therapy

Eva Pattis, Dr. phil.

In this Zürich Lecture Series, Dr. Eva Pattis will de-scribe her extensive pioneering work with adults and children in many different cultures. In particular, she will speak about two distinct forms of sandplay that she has developed over several decades and used in a wide variety of challenging contexts. One approach focuses on processes of kinesthetic imagination, inviting patients to use only sand and water in their play. The other, Expressive Sandwork(R), is a method developed especially for children in social crisis situ-ations. In both cases, Dr. Pattis will show the psy-che’s astonishing capacity to regulate itself when free and protected space allows the creation of expressive images and narratives. Indeed, in these innovative applications of sandplay, the psyche’s self-regulating tendency becomes remarkably visible and tangible.

Dr. Eva Pattis, a graduate of the C.G. Jung Institute Zürich, is a clinical psychologist and Jungian psycho-analyst for adults and children, maintaining her pri-vate practice in Milan, Italy. She conducts training for a number of established and developing Jungian groups worldwide. In 2002, she co-founded the In-ternational Association for Expressive Sandwork(R), a non-profit organization that brings the therapy and training to vulnerable communities, i.e. those suffer-ing such adversities as war, natural disaster, and/or social destitution (www.sandwork.org). Dr. Pattis has realized this purpose in her work with groups in many countries, e.g. Palestine, Colombia, China, Ro-mania, and South Africa. Dr. Pattis is the author of several books, including Sandplay Therapy in Vulner-able Communities: A Jungian Approach (Routledge).

An Original Play (2017) By Henry Abramovitch

and Murray Stein

C.G. Jung: Paul Brutsche Rabbi Leo Baeck: John Hill The Woman: Dariane Pictet

Cello: Barbara Miller Director: Murray Stein

Presented by ISAP’s veteran theater troupe, this play dramatizes a historic meeting between Prof. C.G. Jung and Rabbi Leo Baeck at the Zurich Hotel Savoy Baur en Ville in October 1946. Beginning as a tense stand-off between the two men, both giants in their respective fields, the encounter unfolds into a dialogue in which they exchange the grim reality of the events that caught them up in the years preceding and during the second world war. A mysterious feminine figure guides them through the process of confrontation and reconciliation.

Developmental Psychology

Nancy Krieger, PhD Tuesday 11.09. 17:00-18:45

=== Basic Jung ===

Symbol: The Space Between Emotion and Idea We will look at the role symbols play in transforming emotions into thought—both physically and culturally—and how the use of symbols in a Jungian approach parallels this process, giving us access to new perspectives on our life path.

Fundamentals of Analytical Psychology Doris Lier, lic. phil. Tuesday 11.09. 19:00-20:45

=== Basic Jung === What is a Psychological Symbol? The notion “symbol” is one of the most important key notions in Jungian Psychology. But what does Jung mean when he speaks of symbols? What does it

mean to interpret myths, fairy tales and dreams in a symbolic way? What symbolical meaning can an apple, a car, a hairdo have? We will discuss these questions by using examples from the realm of imagination and everyday life.

Practical Case Marco Della Chiesa, lic. phil. Wednesday 12.09. 10:00-11:45

Group Therapy: Helping Each Other Heal and Grow Introduction and overview of the history and concepts of group therapy

Psychological Interpretation of Pictures Lucienne Marguerat, lic. phil. Wednesday 12.09. 17:00-20:45

Fundamentals of Analytical Psychology

Diane Cousineau Brutsche, Dr. phil. Friday 14.09. 17:00-18:45

=== Basic Jung === Lady Soul

"Soul" was previously reserved for religious and philosophical frameworks, while in the field of psychology the accepted term was “psyche.” And yet, in psychology, the word “soul” has become more and more familiar. The aim of this lecture is to shed some light on the relevance of this semantic

evolution and to contribute to our understanding of soul as a vital psychological entity.

Fundamentals of Analytical Psychology Paul Brutsche, Dr. phil. Friday 14.09. 19:00-20:45

=== Basic Jung === Symbols and Transformation: The Meaning of Symbols within the Analytical Process In this course we will explore four fundamental but essential areas of Jungian theory with regard to symbols: Symbolic Consciousness Symbolic Reality The Reality of Symbols Transformation through Symbols

Religious Content in Dreams We want to explore the sense of religious themes in

dreams. Sometimes they are clear, sometimes hidden in relation to a special religion or to an obvious religious meaning. Maybe first of all they have be to understand in a symbolic way. This can be recognized only in connection with the dreamer´s personality.

The Red Book: Initiation and the Soul's

Desire

How does the soul announce itself and what does it

want? Jung's sojourn with his soul as reflected in The

Red Book anticipated his subsequent life work. His

soul spoke a language particular to an archaic

pattern of initiation evident in age old shamanic

practices. This seminar will consider the particular

language, abundant in The Red Book, that defines a

pattern of initiation and how it manifests in dreams

and other psychic events.
