Library Celebrates Iron Horse Festival On Saturday, October 5 the Library joins the fun in downtown Poplar Bluff from 10 am to 2 pm as we all celebrate the 4th Annual Iron Horse Festival. Outdoor events include creating chalk art on the sidewalks, free popcorn and balloons, and a rainbow bubble fountain. Come dressed as your favorite character from a book for our costume contest in the Sensory Garden from 1 pm to 2 pm. Inside, don’t forget to see the exhibit of old-time images of “The Way We Worked.” Remember to get your Festival Passport stamped here! New Bench in Sensory Garden The dedication of a new bench overlooking the Library Sensory Garden takes place on October 11, at 3 pm. The bench is in memory of the late Shelby-Ruth Rainwater (Rayni) Worley. The loving and giving nature of Miss Worley, only 15 years old at her passing in November 2012, is an inspiration to us all. The Poplar Bluff Munici- pal Library is only one among many charities, organizations, and foundations to be honored by generous donations made in her name. The celebration of her life be- gins at 3 pm and continues with “The Five O’Clock Shadows” jazz trio playing se- lections at 5 pm. New Book Club The new Sunday Afternoon Book Club meets Sunday, October 20 at 2 pm. The novel Orphan Train, by Christina Baker Kline, is the selection for its first meet- ing. The club will meet every month on a designated Sunday. Next time-Nov 10th Tech Talk 2.0 Is Back on Oct 17 Tech Talk Thursday 2.0 is new, and re- turns on October 17 with a new focus! New Bench in Sensory Garden

October 13—19, 2013 is Teen Read Week! Explore the Unknown @ Your Library—explore and learnabout the unknown through mystery, adventure, sci-fi, and fantasy books. Teen Read Week™ is a national adoles-cent literacy initiative created by the Young Adult Library Services Association (YALSA). It began in 1998 and is heldannually during the third week of October. Its purpose is to encourage teens to be regular readers and library users.
