Greetings,How can you beat this early
fall weather? Yes, I know, it could have been better with enough rain throughout the summer, but this is the hand we were dealt so let’s play the hand. Let’s have a good sale season and start over next year. We will have grass again.
Every year, at this time, I head to New York for the Cow Power
Sale and this year was no different. Now, you would think that if you flew halfway across the United States to go to one of the old-est, elite, premier Angus events in the world that you would be bellying up to the best steak in the world. Well, how about the best lamb chop that I have ever ate. I’m serious. This lamb chop was deadly and deadly enough that I ate three of them! These chops were juicy and packed full of flavor and so tender you cut them with your fork. And the neat part, they were fed on the farm that I ate at and born in Iowa.
Night two was probably the best New York Strip I have had for a while. I’m not sure how these guys season this meat but what-
ever it is, it’s awesome. Just maybe it’s because it was a new york strip in New York? This strip was born, raised, fed, processed, grilled, and ate in New York. Then you throw in some good sweet corn with the pasta mix and it’s an awesome supper for this ol’ Iowa boy.
On to night three. We had cer-tified Berkshire pork roast. Have you ever had Berkshire roast, or for that matter, any kind of roast that is cooked on a grill that comes out better than a big thick pork chop or rib eye? I had it in New York. They cooked it for awhile, then sliced it in about inch and a half thick pieces, then finished grilling like a steak, and it was deadly, just pure deadly. The edges were crispy, and it was sea-soned to a perfection, again. It’s hard to explain, but I will put it this way, I think I gained better than four pounds a day while I was there. How’s that for feed efficiency?
On night four, we went to Albany, to a so-called good steakhouse. They can’t carry water to the good ol’ country boys from Craryville, New York. Thanks to Sir William Angus and to all the Cow Power consignors for your hospitality.
Just for the record, kidney stones are no fun. I know, I have first hand experience now. My apologies to the sales that I had to miss and my thanks to the guys that covered for me, ringside. To my knowledge, I am back to running full bore.
Travel safe and please keep our military in your thoughts and prayers.
God Bless!

Commentary
A Little Bit About a Whole Lot of Things
by evan rayl
Beef Specialists are predicting this summers extreme heat with extended drought will cause problems in beef production for the next three years. Just two years ago these same beef specialists pre-dicted the extreme snowy winter with very low temperatures would do the same thing. Coupling these two events together will cause five continuous years of stress to cattle. Personally, I think we have already seen plenty of evidence of that occurring based on reports I’ve heard from producers. There were many factors that occurred in each period of extreme weather, such as laying in snowbanks for six months, record number of days over 90 degree temperature, and the list goes on. While the factors in extreme winter and sum-mer weather were totally different, the resulting problems in the recent past and for the next three years, likely will be quite similar, such as cows having poorer body condition scores and failing to settle, bulls that are sterile, cattle with more feet and leg injuries, and etc. It will be important to body condition score and preg-nancy test cows for the next three years or until we get some rea-sonable weather for an extended period.
All labor that uplifts humanity has dignity and importance and should be undertaken with painstaking excellence.
Martin Luther King Jr. After all the heat and drought this summer, we are now headed
into fall and the heat and drought are still with us. Corn and bean yields are all over the place, but it looks like the earlier the corn was planted the better the yield and the later the beans were plant-ed, the better they will be, at least in our immediate area. Now
that corn is being harvested, experts are saying it is safe to turn cows into the cornstalks because cows won’t eat the stalks until they have eaten the down corn, husks, and leaves. At least the corn is dry enough that very little propane will be needed. But most of all, we need to pray that next year will be a more normal crop year.
There is no labor a person does that is undignified; if they do it right.
Bill Cosby
Anthrax has been found to be the cause of death in a Klamath County steer and tests will likely conform the same cause of death for two other steers in the same herd, according to officials. Klamath County is on the southern border of Oregon. Outbreaks of the disease occur in the West, however this is the first cases of anthrax in the state of Oregon in five decades. Cause of the disease is inhaling spores that can survive in soil for decades. Normally the disease occurs when either drought or flooding occur. In early August over 100 animals died in Colorado and Texas. Back in 2001 an outbreak in Texas killed over 1,600 head of animals. Humans have a small chance of getting the disease from scratches. The peo-ple who worked with the Klamath County cattle show no evidence of the disease and shouldn’t come down with it now.
There is no expedient to which a man will not go to avoid the labor of thinking.
Thonas A. Edison After the Christmas BSE cow back in 2002, exports to Japan
dropped to zero and only returned to the level where they were before just this year. Now Japan is raising the cattle age limit from 20 months to 30 months, which is likely increase the volume shipped to Japan considerably. In another development, it is noted that the Canadian's are exporting 85 percent of its surplus product to the U.S. The volume is so high the Canadian’s have no plan for exports should the U.S. reduce purchases. Meanwhile, U.S. feder-ally inspected pig slaughter is up more that 6 percent above a year ago and slaughter weights are dropping like a rock without extreme hot weather to stimulate sales. Analysts are predicting “a tsunami of red ink” for pork producers. Meanwhile, Conley Nelson, Algona, IA farmer and president of the National Pork Board said in a statement, “We expect to see relatively good market prices for our pigs, but the drought has significantly depleted the corn and soybean crops that are the foundation of hog diets. As a result, we’re going to have feed and other costs that will make it difficult for most producers to be profitable in 2013.”
All hard work brings a profit, but mere talk leads only to poverty. Proverbs 14:23
Organic food is a $26 billion business in the U.S. Having the organic stamp many times doubles the cost and despite a slow econ-omy, the industry grew more than 8% in 2010. Knowing where our food comes from has totally shifted the demand picture. But a new study conducted by Stanford University’s Center for Health Policy, by a group of physicians who conducted 17 human studies and 223 studies of nutrient and contaminant levels in various unprocessed foods of every description. The results of the study were published in the Annuls of Internal Medicine. The various studies showed that there was a lack of strong evidence that organic foods are signifi-cantly more nutritious than conventional foods. Eating organic food might reduce exposure to pesticide residues and antibiotic-resistant bacteria, but not by much. Consumers should wash their food before consuming in every situation. While physicians expected organic foods would be superior, they were surprised to find there were no measurable differences. In the end, whether organic or conventional, U.S. Food is safe and nutritious and we are lucky to have so many choices. Point is, all American Farmers and Ranchers are held to the same standards. We are lucky to live in the U.S.A. n

How Hard Was The Drought On Pregnancy Rates?
By Toby Muller Usually by this time of year we’re thinking about putting the
lawnmowers away because the grass growth is slowing down. This year, I think the Muller household mowed the grass as much in the month of September as we did the three months prior. While we are normally exited to rid our lives of an extra chore, the site of green grass definitely makes it easier to get up in the morning.
While our summer seemed to be about as brutal as they come, the cows in this part of the world seemed to cope fairly well. So far, I believe pregnancy rates are much above last year’s dismal numbers. I think there could be a few different reasons for this with the lack of humidity being first and foremost. As our temperatures in July topped out well above 100 degrees for a good share of the month, thankfully the humidity stayed at bay. It’s always a good sign at the end of an inferno-type day to see your cow herd spread out and grazing and seeming almost comfortable. Our lows this
summer were much more favorable than last summer when it didn’t get below the 80’s for over two weeks.
The other couple things that contributed to our lack of a disaster this summer was the quality of our grass early on and the fact that most cattlemen have culled a lot of their dead-beats. Even though a lot of us ran out of grass later, we had not only ample grass, but good quality grass through the pre-breeding and early breeding sea-son. And let’s face it, the saying “what doesn’t kill you, makes you stronger” applies to your cow herd too. Last year’s extremely hu-mid July ended a lot of the heat-sensitive cows’ careers early mak-ing the survivors that much tougher of a group.
Last summer the humidity saved the corn crop and killed cow conception, this year it seems the opposite is true. There will be some bad groups, as always, especially in some of the later calv-ing groups, dry lot heifers, and pastures without ample shade. And of course, other management miscues such as a poor performing bull, lack of a quality water source, or failure to supplement when pastures became short, are always amplified with such an extreme summer. As for right now, most of my customers have been very happy with their breeding rates and I look for that trend to continue.

Governor's Charity Steer Show Raises $150,360
by evan rayl
Records were broken as the 30th Annual Governor’s Charity Steer Show raised $150,360, the highest selling auction to date, for the Ronald McDonald Houses of Iowa.
The money raised through the auction will benefit the Ronald McDonald Houses of Des Moines, Iowa City, and Sioux City. All of the houses are located near hospitals and provide a “home away from home” for families of seriously ill children.
The Iowa Beef Industry Council and the Iowa Cattlemen’s Association sponsor the annual steer show and auction. Governor Terry Branstad hosted the 2012 event held on Aug. 11 in the Pioneer Livestock Pavilion at the Iowa State Fair.
Since its inception in 1983, the Governor’s Charity Steer Show has raised $2,087,588 for the Ronald McDonald Houses of Iowa. The auction, which began when 25 steers paraded into the live-stock pavilion, was led by Governor Branstad and other celebrity showpersons competing for the title of “Judge’s Choice.”
The official steer show judge for this year’s show was Steve Radakovich of Earlham, who judged the first and twenty-fifth Governor’s Charity Steer Shows. The judge selected the steer “The Big Show,” shown by Mike Pearson and Betsy Pearson, for Overall Grand Champion honors. The Iowa Bankers Association sponsored the steer. Linda Juckette purchased the steer at the auction for $29,500, along with a donation of $1,000 by Ticknor Cattle, making it the highest selling steer to date. Walker McDermott of Atlantic owned the steer.
“O.M.G,” a steer shown by Representative Steve King, earned Reserve Champion honors. The steer was sponsored by Liberty Ready Mix and Voss Supporters and purchased by Cookies Food Products & Westside State Bank for $4,000. Bryton Voss of Dexter raised the steer.
The Aaron & Jaime Burdorf family was selected by the crowd for the title of “People’s Choice.” Burdorf’s steer, “Thanks A Million,” was sponsored by the Volunteer Boards of Iowa Ronald McDonald Houses and purchased by James Oil Co and James Simmental Farms for $4,500. Hunter Wilkening of State Center raised the steer.
Darren Heldt, Director of Racing at Prairie Meadows Race Track and Casino earned the Showmanship Award. Heldt was selected by two key organizers of the first event; Bruce Berven and Mark Fischer served as the event’s Showmanship Judges. Berven retired two years ago as ICA’s execu-tive director, and Fisher now works at the Iowa Economic Development Authority in the agricultural trade pro-motions program. Heldt’s steer, “Iowa Classic,” was sponsored by Prairie Meadows Race Track and Casino. The steer was raised by Collin Cory of
Altoona and purchased by Prairie Meadows Race Track & Casino for $8,000.
Emcees for the show were farm broadcaster Bob Quinn, WHO Radio, and Andy Peterson, WMT Radio. A special guest appearance from Ronald McDonald kept the show lively. The auctioneer for the auction was Phil Schooley from Bloomfield Livestock. Catching bids alongside Schooley were Mike Sorensen and Ross Butler of Livestock Plus, Tom Rooney of The Midwest Marketer, and Jason Lekin of Tama Livestock Auction. n

Neglect Performance Testing and Miss the
Opportunity for Profitby evan rayl
The movement to get cattle producers to weigh their calves at weaning has been in place for over 50 years. It was slow to start because com-mercial producers and especially purebred breeders fought this new inno-vation. The long held thinking was the way to select cattle especially by registered breeders was through the “Eye of the Master.” Today, that would be described as “visual appraisal.”
Back in the late 1950’s, when I was attending school at Iowa State College (since changed to University), my roommate (Jerry Schmidt from Oelwein, IA) was studying Agricultural Journalism. He and I conspired to write a few articles for the campus Ag magazine, the Iowa Agriculturalist. One of those articles was titled, “Cattle Production Testing.” I still have the final draft of that article.
We interviewed R.M. McWilliams, who was assigned by the college to look into performance testing cattle, but that was about all he could do, because the standardized age for weighing calves at weaning was yet to be decided. He was thinking 190 days might be the age target. That turned out to be wrong, but most of his other basic ideas turned out to be totally correct. Consequently, I enjoy reading that old article every once in a while.
Then, in 1959, Bob deBaca came from New Mexico to work for the Iowa State Extension Service. He had one job to do in the beginning, convince Iowa cattle producers to weigh their calves at weaning. He had a difficult job ahead of him, because as mentioned previously, Iowa cattle producers didn’t want any part of such a thing. Just about the time deBaca came to Iowa, the weaning weigh date of 205 days came into being. However, years later I read reports from several institutions each taking credit for the 205 date’s selection.
Right after he came to Iowa, deBaca scheduled several producer meet-ings. Most turned out to be very controversial affairs. There was a lot of gritting of teeth and many loud words from both sides. I have to say Bob held his own pretty well against each group of angry cattlemen. My “Performance Testing” continued on page 44
father, Ferol Rayl, was the fifth producer in Iowa to sign up for this new program, but he was careful to not mention it in public until several years later. My dad was fortunate to have a wagon scale he had previously used for hogs, that would work for weighing his calves.
As the years went on, Bob gradually convinced many producers to start weighing. Then, the purebred breed associations decided it was time for them to get involved. At first EBV’s (Estimated Breeding Value’s) were established. They could only make comparisons of cattle within the same herd. Later, EPD’s (Estimated Progeny Difference’s) became the standard. They would allow comparisons of cattle anywhere in the whole country. This was because all the weights were turned into ratios, which were turned into EPD’s by powerful computers. Because cattle would ratio approximately the same with similar breeding, cattle with the same genetics in Montana and Florida could be directly compared even though cattle in Montana might weigh 200 pounds more at weaning than those in Florida.
As the decades went on, taking weights by registered breeders for their cattle became almost universal. But at the same time, taking weights by commercial producers never quite continued on and today only a handful of commercial producers take weights on their cattle.
With the drought, producers need to know which cows to cull from their herds, but there aren't many records to help them with the decisions they need to make. They could use the information as to which are their poorest cows, then cull those cows so they can stretch their feed through until spring.
Recently, my Purina Feed Representative, Kevin Sothman, showed me the last year’s performance records on a herd of two hundred cows and calves owned by a customer he assists with record keeping. Kevin con-vinced his customer to weigh both his cows and their calves at weaning. I have no idea who the owner is, but in this herd there is a cow losing so much money, it takes six average cows in the herd to make up what this one cow loses. It isn’t necessary to relate the actual numbers, but this case was not hard to figure out because the cow was very big (ate lots of feed) and her calf very small (not much to sell). This is an extreme case, but what about a cow who only loses as much money as one other cow in the herd makes? Right now with these two cows in the herd, neither cow is making any money. I would bet that in this herd of two hundred cows there are a good number of cows that are each keeping one other cow from turning a profit. In the case of these cows, it is impossible to look at these cows and tell which ones are the profit makers and which ones are

profit losers. The only way to find the cows who are losing money is to weigh them all along with their calves. Besides finding the cows losing money, how much improvement would there be in herd profit, if one kept replacement heifers from the herd from cows who are the profit makers?
And what about the bulls? Could there be a bull in the herd whose offspring are losing as much money as another bull’s offspring makes. In this case there would be two bulls and all the cows they are mated to, who aren’t making any money! For example, a few years ago, I had pur-chased a bull who’s calves gained a whole pound per day slower than the rest of the bulls I was using. He became Golden Arches hamburger real quick.
It takes a huge investment in cattle, land, machinery, and time to main-tain a herd of 200 cows. They take enough investment, inputs, and care that they need to be making a sizable profit. Weighing the entire herd once a year is a small price to pay to make the herd far more profitable. Currently, there is no place to obtain data like that mentioned above. With 8 dollar corn there needs to be. Nowhere is anyone factoring in the weight of the cow like is reported here. If you are interested in obtaining information that would allow you to manage you herd better as is sug-gested above, send me an email at: [email protected] Be sure to men-tion the following words in your email: Cow and Calf Weights. If there is enough interest, we will set up a program to analyze the data. Good luck with your herd. n

Preparing today’s Juniors to be tomorrow’s
CHAMPiONS... not just in the ring, but in life, also!
Banners fade, trophies collect dust, and money sifts through your hands like sand, but the friends you have made and the people you have met will stick with you for life. Looking back on a busy year full of clinics and shows, we can’t help but think about how wonderful it is that our children get to grow up surrounded by the great people that share the love of agriculture and showing cattle, like we do.
Our family has been a part of different Jr. National Breed shows for a number of years now. We love the skills that our children have developed through these contests and the people they have met. The skills that one can gain from these great events will prepare them for a future of so many possibilities. We would like to encour-age everyone to consider buying a papered animal for your next project. We feel that the Jr. National Shows, if you choose to take part, could be one of the best opportunities that a young person could ever have.
I think that many of you will agree that, as we mention at our clinics, you need to look at the big picture. Ultimately, the bottom line is that we are teaching our young people marketing skills, and any avenue in life they take, these skills will pay off. Whether it is in the fitting class, where they are on a team of three and have to learn to work together, or if they are all alone presenting a speech
Cattle Chat for the public speaking class, they are learning what it takes to work their hardest and how to change things, in order to do better next year. In all of these contests, they are preparing to market something to the judge. The contests are geared to give your young person the opportunity to market themselves, their skills and knowl-edge, or a product that they own, and have worked on.
I recall the statement that Cody made this year as we got under way in the contests, he said, “I think I finally get it this year, what you have been telling me all these years.” At one point, he had not been looking forward to doing the salesmanship contest.
I pointed out to him that he really had been involved in selling his animal each and every time he went to a show, from the mo-ment he stepped her off the trailer until he loaded her back up again and headed for home. Also, as we were selling calves in the fall and he happened to be the only one home when people stopped by to view the calves, he was marketing them. So this opportunity was not a whole lot different then what he had already been doing. The only thing was he was going to be judged and that he needed to put a little deeper thought into the presentation of the material. I think that through contests, they see what the importance is on research-ing the pedigree of their animal, and knowing what kind of cow and bull they are out of. Then, also being a part of deciding what bull to breed the heifer to and discussing the different predictable traits that you would like to see be possible.
A lot of work is put into making these events memorable for our young people, and we would like to thank everyone who makes these Nationals possible, and all of the companies that donate towards the prizes for the events. It is the insights of these great people and companies that see the value of supporting programs like these, that will keep our children learning valuable skills, that will eventually help the whole world. If you have any questions feel free to call,

McCullough Fitting Clinic’s Jr. National Boot Camp
Preparation for the Jr. national Shows in any breed.
June 3rd - 7tH, 2013 We are so excited to host our first Jr. National Boot Camp. This has been a few years in the making and we can’t wait to see it through. The Juniors will spend their days learning how to compete in events such as speech, showmanship, grooming, judging, stockmen’s, salesmanship, and photography.
Arrival for the camp will begin Sunday the 2nd and for those who will be flying in, Des Moines International Airport will be the pickup on Sunday. Friday the 7th will be returning home. Juniors will be lodged at Freedom Bible Camp and will be bused to the ranch each day. Three meals, drinks, and snacks will be provided.
Some cattle and equipment will be needed but not everyone will need to bring their own.
We will have an entry form to download on our website under the Jr. National Boot Camp link along with more details as they become available. The deadline for entries is May 1st. and it will be limited to 50 Juniors, so don’t wait!
We are very blessed by God, with the gifts He has given us, and we love to share and help develop our young people, and challenge them to be the best they can be. This will be a Biblically based camp with messages from Paster Denis St.Lawrence.
We look forward to working with the Juniors. If you have any questions visit our website www.maineaimranch.com or
call Karen McCullough at 641-344-5548. This will be the first among many...
June 3-7, 2013 here on the ranch located west of allerton ia. our first Jr. national Prep. Camp. 50 Juniors will enjoy a week packed with learning about how to compete in the Jr. national events.

Seven Records Set
at 2012 iowa State Fair Sale of Champions
by evan rayl
With a final swing of the gavel, the Iowa Foundation for Agricultural Advancement (IFAA) raised $300,000 for the 16 exhibitors of 4-H and FFA Grand Champions in the Sale of Champions Saturday, August 18, at the 2012 Iowa State Fair.
Five champion records were broken during the sale. The Reserve Champion 4-H Market Heifer sold for a record $35,000, besting the previous mark of $28,000 set in 2011. The Grand Champion 4-H Market Hog sold for $31,000, break-ing the previous record of $25,000 set in 2010. The Grand Champion FFA Market Lamb set a new record of $14,600, beating the previous record of $14,500 set in 2004. The Grand Champion and Reserve Champion 4-H Broiler Pens set two new records of $7,000 and $12,200, respectively. The previous records were $5,800 set in 2011 and $6,200 set in 2008, respectively.
This year IFAA introduced meat goats to the sale. The Grand Champion FFA Meat Goat sold for $7,500 and the Grand Champion 4-H Meat Goat sold for $9,200, both establishing new records.
Participants in the Sale of Champions were asked to find hometown supporters to set a floor price for bidding. The purchaser in the auction paid the difference between the floor price and the final sale price. Each participant in the Sale takes home a check for 75 percent of the animal’s sale price. The IFAA keeps 25 percent to fund the scholarship program and cover sale expenses. In addition to their sale earnings, the exhibitors of the Grand Champion 4-H Market Steer, Grand Champion 4-H Market Hog and Grand Champion FFA Market Lamb earn the use of a new aluminum livestock trailer for one year courtesy of Featherlite, Inc., of Cresco.
When added with the $165,150 of scholarships and perfor-mance and carcass awards presented prior to the Sale, the IFAA bestowed $465,150 on young livestock and poultry exhibi-tors during the day’s event. Since the inception of the Sale of Champions in 1988, the IFAA has given out more than $5.2 million through Sale proceeds and scholarships to deserving youth participating in agricultural-related projects and inter-ested in agricultural-related careers. n

Here are a couple photos of my 2 year old grandson Cooper Mitchell with his calf Babe. One picture was taken at the Iowa State Fair. Babe had her own stall. The other picture was taken when we were taking pictures for the sale. He thought we needed to take a photo of Babe also! We bought
Babe from Bev Johnson 9 years ago for my son’s oldest boy. So she has held up well, changed colors a little, though!
Photo submitted by Tom Mitchell.
We are very much enjoying this long awaited cooler weather!!!! Football sea-son is pretty important at our house and deciding on which RED t-shirt to wear in the morning has been difficult. Tucker has been learning a few valuable lessons this year and one of them being what group of people we will be around and which shirt, either Iowa State or 49ers,
that will cause the most disturbance! I hate to say too much for fear of jinxing our two teams that are undefeated so far, but in the words of Taylor, “Go Cy-co-lones!”
Our next lesson learned would have to be the loss of one of our pets. As many of you know, we have a few cats in our house that have become part of our family. We like to joke that they are our live-stock and we do chores every day (okay, Mom does). Cali was our ten year old cat that finally lost her fight with cancer. Tucker was a strong little man and helped me take her to the vet at the end. He buried his face in my side and said he didn’t want me to be alone. As much as I tease, he is a pretty thoughtful kid to care about Mom’s feelings. After leaving the vet we decided to get a little stone statue of a kitty with angel wings. We put it in my office where she always laid and kept me company while I worked. Later on, I noticed Taylor in my office and watched her struggle to get that statue on her lap. I asked her what she was doing and she said, “Momma I just want to hold Cali one more time.” Needless to say, we are still a little raw but it is prob-ably a life lesson I don’t think they will soon forget.
Now keeping in mind our recent loss, I also had to tell the kids that the calves at Papa’s farm will be sold in October. Tucker has been keeping a close watch on the calendar!! The kids and I try to get out

to the farm every evening to check waterers, hand feed the cows hay (from the bail they could reach in and get themselves) and finally comb the bull calves that have each received a name. Dad has been on the road working a lot of sales so he has not heard the pleading that I get every day, “Could we just keep one, I have some money!” I don’t think $5 will get very far! What is funny is that Tucker's favor-ite is an Angus bull from Jeff Maas of Maas Show Cattle. His name,
according to my chil-dren, is Bruce. He is the biggest sweetheart and I get the biggest kick out of listening to them talk to Bruce while they comb on him. He usually angles himself so the Hereford bulls can’t get scratched quite the same. Tucker is con-vinced that wherever
Bruce goes, we will get visiting rights! I hope everyone is hitting all the fall sales and having lots of suc-
cess! Travel safely and always keep our country and military in your prayers!

Gib Yardley, 79 years old, is a pioneer in the Simmental and Maine Anjou breeds. He has been a member of the Simmental and Maine Anjou Associations ever since they were organized. The cattle business is his only business. He has spent his life breeding, selecting, and culling these cattle. He has had an active AI program for 44 years to the best bulls he could find, buy or raise. Last spring we bred 425 head in 30 days. Selection emphasis has been placed on fleshing ability and performance to excel on the range, in the pas-ture and feedlot, with eye appeal to be competitive in the show ring. Our cattle are deep ribbed, thick, big topped with square butts, clean fronts and sheaths. they are structurally sound in a moderate package. Our fOcus is on the female.

Long Haul Long Haul’s dam was the pick of our heifer calf crop in 2007 by Trennophl and Rist of Indi-ana. Long Haul bred 45 head of cows this spring and held his flesh as well as any bull we have ever used. He was Inter-mediate Grand Champion bull in Denver 2012. He’s moderate framed, cool made, and his cow family stands second to none. His Granddam produced the $21,000 high seller from last years sale that sold to Jones Show Cattle and Tulle Cattle Co (baldy hiefer pictured below). A maternal sister to his dam produced Sugar Plum, crowd favorite in our 2010 sale that sold to Wayne and Barb Ohlrichs. Sugar Plum pro-duced a bull calf this year that Wayne and Barb said will be big time. Case in point is this cow family will PRODUCE! His service sells!
