When looking at Spain as a whole, it seems that property prices are still
falling, despite recent statistics that suggest property prices are finally stabilising.The average price of residential property fell by 3.6% between May 2014 and May 2015, according to Tinsa’s latest IMIE General and Large Markets Index. The most recent figures have unsettled the markets a bit, as April saw optimism begin to build when the year-on-year depreciation shrank to a modest 1.7%. There was a note of positivity in Tinsa’s report, though, as it showed that in the first five months of the year prices fell by only 1.6%. Even so, when compared to the start of the property market’s downturn more than seven years ago, prices are still down by about 50% in a number of Spanish regions. The average loss of property value in Spain as a whole stands at 41.5%, which means that Spanish property prices have returned to levels last seen back in 2003. The worst affected areas were noted in Zaragoza – where prices declined by 52.8%, Girona
(down by 52.9%), Guadalajara (down by 53.6%), and Toledo (down by 56.8%).Meanwhile, many other regions saw prices halve, such as Catalunya and Castilla La-Mancha (just over 50%), Aragon (49.6%) and Madrid (48.5%).But it’s not all doom and gloom, as there are many analysts who predict that stability and an era of rising prices is still on the horizon. The Tinsa report showed that prices on the Mediterranean coast are actually on the up, growing by an encouraging 1.4% in the first five months of the year to easily outperform the rest of the market. In yearly terms, prices on the Mediterranean coast dropped an average of 2.3%, while in the Canary and Balearic islands the drop was an even more modest 2.1%. However, in the first five months of the year prices in the Canary and Balearic islands fell at 1.5%, a similar rate to the national average.Markets remain in a consolidation phase and signs of stability are starting to show, but it’s evident that, overall, prices are still dropping. However, investors are increasingly more optimistic and looking to take advantage
of the low prices, especially those from overseas, as favourable exchange rates make Spanish property prices even more attractive. might run into. It’s all about chemistry and proper water chemistry will keep the water safe and will save you hundreds of euros each year in wasted chemicals and endless hours of time. Having said that, these days the availability of multi action tablets do the trick very well and solve most of your chemical requirements. Providing you keep the pool clear of large debris, these tablets will work perfectly well on a day to day basis. From my own experience I can tell you that your pool does have a mind of it’s own and it knows when you are planning a party and will do everything it can to spoil your fun. So keep on top of it on a daily basis, especially leading up to a party, and make sure the pool knows who is the boss!Secondly: Create the right atmosphereSetting the tone for a fun summer gathering involves more than throwing a few chairs on the lawn or terrace. Spend a little time creating a comfortable, welcoming environment for your guests and you’ll have a party to remember. Ensure that you have enough chairs and if space permits, set up “conversation” areas by arranging the chairs in small groupings. During the day, provide some shade, if not under trees, then under a few patio umbrellas or a canvas canopy or awning. If the party will extend into the evening, you will need some patio lanterns scattered around along with plenty of candles. For a dramatic effect, float some candles in your sparkling clean pool, the effect is quite stunning. Now music is very important. plan ahead and select music that fits the theme of your gathering. You want different music for the day and the evening and remember that music is supposed to be in the background - don’t force your guests to compete with it.And finally...The key to a great party and one that you will also enjoy as the host, is to make your guests feel at home. No matter how formal or informal the gathering is, encourage your guests to help themselves to drinks and food and to relax. Tell your guests you have adopted the classic Spanish notion of ‘mi casa es tu casa’. (my house is your house), now you can enjoy the party along with everyone else.

The coconut, the ‘fruit’ of the palm tree, is an exceptional,

A few years back now, I strong-armed my sister Natalie into
buying a 2010 Subaru Forester. You see, when my nephew was born, her two-door Honda Civic just wasn’t cutting it anymore. She wanted something safe, reliable, economical, useful, and easy to get a car seat in and out of. A low price wasn’t a bad attribute, either. Being a bit of a motor head, I of course told her to get the turbo XT version with the manual gearbox. However, she purchased the naturally aspirated Forester with the old four-speed automatic gearbox. Natalie’s only complaint with the car? It’s too slow. As always, she should have listened to her big brother. Regardless, when I told her I’d just driven the new version of her beloved family-hauler, she peppered me with questions, wanting to know if it was time for her to trade up. As Subaru loves pointing out, its customers are among the most loyal in the business. The following is essentially what I told her.The latest Forester is the fourth-generation car, and I can confidently say it is the best Forester yet, and it is far from slow! While
the entire car is new, the biggest change is the addition of a continuously variable transmission, which smartly makes the most out of the engine’s power. Subaru claims 0-60 mph in just over 9 seconds, although I think this is a very modest claim. The first thing that stands out on the road is how quiet the new Forester is. And if you’re the type of Subaru owner who loves hauling kayaks and mountain bikes up mountains as well as the day to day school runs and supermarket trips, you’ll appreciate how the new Forester rides too. Subaru has also gone out of its way to optimise the new Forester for young families. For instance, the rear-seat cupholders have been relocated to the centre armrest so that children in car seats can use them. And a textured coating was added to the rear doorsills so that toddlers won’t slip while climbing aboard. The Forester team has made the rear door openings larger and the doors themselves open up wider, thereby making it easier for parents to install child seats. Subaru is also offering its excellent Eye
Subaru ForesterSight system -- a silly name for a host of great safety technologies. Eye Sight encompasses adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning and pre-collision braking to name but a few. While the new model car is slightly larger, weight was kept in check (it’s about 40 pounds heavier), and you still have more ground clearance than all the Forester’s direct competition and really pretty good for any modern, production SUV. I personally have had zero issues running along at 60 to 70 mph on packed dirt for dozens of miles. And for more serious off road terrain, the X-Mode offers a low speed off-road mode that is very capable indeed. But back on normal terrain and on a trip into town with my sister Natalie the coversation returned to manual or automatic. I think I still prefer the manual, but that’s just me. As for my younger sister, she is a head strong one and for sure she will opt for the all new automatic model, only this time, there won’t be any advice to the contrary from her big brother. n

Ya hace algunos años, forcé a mi hermana Natalie a
comprarse un Subaru Forester 2010. Verás, cuando mi sobrino nació, su Honda Civic de dos puertas simplemente no daba la talla. Ella quería algo seguro, confiable, económico, útil, y que fuera fácil meter y sacar un asiento de bebé. El bajo precio no era un mal atributo tampoco.Siendo un amante de la velocidad, yo por supuesto le dije que comprara el XT turbo versión manual. Sin embargo, compró el Forester de aspiración natural con cambio automático antiguo de 4 marchas. ¿La única queja de Natalie con el coche? Es muy lento. Como siempre, debió escuchar a su hermano mayor. Independientemente, cuando le dije que acababa de conducir la nueva versión de su amado multiuso, ella me cosió a preguntas, queriendo saber si era hora de intercambiar. Como a Subaru le gusta recalcar, sus usuarios están entre los más leales en este negocio. Lo siguiente es esencialmente lo que le dije.El último Forester es la cuarta generación, confidencialmente puedo decir que es el mejor Forester hasta ahora. Y está muy lejos de ser lento! Y si eres el típico dueño de Subaru que le encanta transportar kayaks y mountain bikes por las montañas así como las carreras de colegio del día a día y paseos al supermercado, apreciarás como el nuevo Forester se conduce también.Subaru también se han quitado de su camino para optimizar el nuevo Forester para las familias jóvenes. Por ejemplo, los portavasos traseros han sido reubicados al apoyabrazos central para que los niños desde sus asientos correspondientes puedan usarlos. Y un revestimiento en los umbrales de las puerta traseras fueron añadidos para que los niños no se resbalen al subir al coche. El equipo de Forester han hecho la abertura de las puertas traseras más grandes y las aperturas más grandes, de este modo consiguiendo ponérselo más fácil a los padres poner los asientos de niños.Subaru también está ofreciendo su excelente sistema Eye Sight ( vista del ojo) – un nombre tonto tal multitud tecnológica de seguridad. de carril y el frenado de pre-colisión por nombrar sólo algunos.Mientras que el nuevo modelo es ligeramente más largo, el peso se mantiene bajo control( es alrededor de 40 libras más pesado) y usted todavía tiene más claridad del suelo que toda la competencia directa de los Forester y realmente bastante buenos para cualquier producción moderna de SUV. Yo personalmente he tenido 0 problemas conduciendo de 60 a 70 millas por hora en tierra apisonada para docenas de millas. Y lo que es más serio, por terreno sin asfaltar, el Modo – X ofrece un modo de baja velocidad para carreteras sin asfaltar donde es muy competente.Puesto de nuevo en terreno normal y en un viaje a la ciudad con mi hermana Natalie la conversación se retomó a manual o automático. Creo que sigo prefiriendo el manual, pero eso soy solo yo. En cuanto a mi hermana pequeña, ella que es una dura de cabeza seguro que optará el modelo nuevo y automático, solo por esta vez, no habrá ningún consejo a la contraria de su hermano mayor. n

The Rat Pack Live Summer Ball at Parque
Del Rio, hosted by Ashlyn Watts of OCIO magazine and Gaynor Proctor Smith of The Essential Group, was set to be the highlight of the Summer 2015 Social calendar... and what a night it was!Nearly 200 people enjoyed the red carpet welcome, chilled cava reception, a sumptuous 3 course meal with drinks and coffee and a truly fantastic show featuring, the internationally acclaimed Rat Pack. Guests were entertained with two hours of Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin and Sammy Davies Jnr classic, sing-along hits from the Rat Pack era of the 1960’s. Dancing was encouraged and enjoyed and the final tune of the night, New York New York had every guest up on the dance floor. The disco music that followed kept everyone entertained until the early hours of the morning. The charity raffle offered some truly fantastic prizes all donated by local businesses and managed to raise 1,100.00 euros for Cudeca. Ashlyn and Gaynor have more top class events planned, details will be published in OCIO magazine.

Los invitados disfrutaron de dos horas de Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin y Sammy Davies Jr. clásico, cantando éxitos de la era Rat Pack de la década de 1960. The Miguel Domecq project started in 2009 with the
presentation of a small, quiet, wine shop in Jerez de la Frontera, which offered labelled wines of Cadiz. These wines had the prestigeous PGI (Protected Geographical Location) label, under the trade name of Entrechuelos and Alhocen. This name was later changed to the Miguel Domecq Winery. Wines are produced and bottled on the premises using grapes selected from the Entrechuelos and Alhocen region located in the Cortijo Torrecera.The vines were planted in 2000 covering an area of more than 30 hectares. They are situated on a hillside overlooked by a great Roman tower.The finca is situated on kilometre 14.5 on the Jerez – La Ina road and has a 800 hectare extension, of which 30 hectares are dedicated to the vineyard, another 300 hectares have been dedicated to the intensive cultivation of olive groves and
the rest is for the cultivation of cereals and pastures for cattle to graze on. The finca has 2 reservoirs supplying a modern system of drip irrigation for all the crops.The technical director of the winery is Joaquin Gomez-Beser, from Jerez. Joaquin has vast experience in the wine industry.At present there are seven wines form the portfolio of the winery under the name Entrechuelos and Alhocen. El proyecto de Miguel Domecq vio la luz en el 2009, con
la presentación de su bodega de vinos tranquilos en Jerez de la frontera, que se etiquetan como vinos de la Tierra de Cádiz y con IGP (Indicación Geográfica Protegida), con el nombre comercial de Entrechuelos y Alhocen y que posteriormente pasó a llamarse Bodega Miguel Domecq. Son unos vinos producidos y embotellados en la propiedad a partir de uvas seleccionadas en los pagos Entrechuelos y Alhocen, situados en el Cortijo Torrecera.Las viñas se plantaron en el año 2000, son más de 30 Ha. Situadas en una ladera coronada por una torre romana y reconstruida por los almohades.La finca está situada en el Km.14,5 de la carretera de Jerez – La Ina y tiene una extensión de mas de 800 hectáreas, de las cuales una treintena se dedican al viñedo (tierra albariza), unas trecientas Ha, se decican al olivar de cultivo intensivo y el
resto es para cultivo de cereal y pastoreo de reses de engorde.
