Page 2: Oceanic Currents

Coastal erosion is the wearing of land, and when the beach sediments start going away.

It occurs when there is strong winds and high waves, high tides and storm surge conditions.

Four main processes cause this, they are abrasion, hydraulic action, attrition and corrosion

Page 3: Oceanic Currents

Majority of the time they are found in areas with large coast lines.

The gulf coast holds many fast eroding coast lines.Over 25 to 30 square miles of wetland is lost each year

which equals to the length of a football field.

Coastal erosion not only affects the environment, it also affects the economy.

The coastline will lose all the natural barriers which protect habitats, and sanctuaries.

This will change the life patterns of all animals, including birds, and the hunting and fishing companies will suffer as well.

Coastal erosion is irreversible.Roads and homes are being demolished by it.People who are near coastlines are at risk for sever

injuries. It will cost tax payers money to fix all damages, and can

really hurt the environment and reduce the protection of the land.

Sea walls and groynes can be built to protect the vulnerable environment and animal life.

They would only have to be maintained every once in a while.Having these in place will not cost that much and will save the

tax payers money to not rebuild destroyed areas.Relocating to a non coast area is a great way to avoid coastal

erosion.
