Our JOurNEY bEgaN iN 1907 when the Baptist General Convention of Oklahoma appointed an education commission to establish a Baptist university. Those pioneers envisioned a university grounded in the liberal arts – preparing students to integrate their Christian faith and disciplines as educators, doctors, lawyers, artists, musicians, missionaries, pastors, entrepreneurs, writers, poets, actors and economists.

THiS iS YOur iNviTaTiON to join a community of sports lovers, a world-class coaching staff and committed athletes. Whether you want to scream like a maniac from the stands or stretch your athletic ability, OBU has a place for you on the team.

We offer 21 varsity sports and eight junior varsity-level sports programs, making us one of the largest programs in the NaIa.

Men’s and women’s swimming were added in 2011. The men’s team claimed the national title in their inaugural year.

Women’s lacrosse will begin competition in the spring of 2013, and OBU’s football team takes the field in the the fall of 2013.

Our athletes have claimed 142 all-america recognitions. When you join OBU athletics, you’re joining good company – the company of champions.

Dr. renita MurimiAssistant Professor of Computer Information Science

dr. Murimi is using common technology to battle a global health risk. she received a $100,000 grant from the bill and Melinda gates foundation to fund a low-cost cell phone application targeting mosquitoes that spread yellow and dengue fever. The innovative research will develop a cell phone application which plays sound waves that Murimi believes will interfere with the aedes aegypti mosquito’s navigation system, preventing them from feeding and spreading disease.

Dr. Sherri raneyAssociate Professor of History

dr. raney has been invited to participate in the highly prestigious and selective fulbright Scholar program. Participants are chosen based on academic merit and leadership potential and challenged to study, teach, and collaborate with scholars from around the world to address shared global concerns. Only 1,100 U.s. faculty and professionals were awarded this honor for 2012-13. This grant will allow dr. raney to teach a course in

“European Women’s history” at Bashkir state Pedagogical University in russia this year.

Dr. alan bandyAssistant Professor of New Testament

dr. Bandy has quickly earned respect among New Testament theologians and is recognized as a published authority on the Book of revelation. Because of his expertise, he is often invited to be a contributing author for various journals, books, and articles. dr. Bandy received OBU’s promising Teacher award in May 2012, indicating his commitment to excellence in the classroom and the fulfillment of the university’s mission of transforming lives.

dr. rudebock brings 28 years of business experience in sales, management, and training into the classroom. he continues to lead workshops and seminars for businesses on a regular basis.

Forecasters predict that degrees in accounting, finance, computer science and business administration will be among the top five bachelor’s degrees demanded by employers.

Can you imagine having one of the most sought-after degrees upon graduation? after graduating from OBU’s Paul dickinson College of Business, not only will you be sought by employers, you will also be equipped to make a difference in the world. STuDYiNg iN THE WarrEN M. aNgELL cOLLEgE of Fine arts, you will learn to express your God-given gifts and reflect his glory through the arts. Our unique studio space in the division of art and design is equipped for graphic design, ceramics, stained glass, weaving, printmaking and painting.

The OBU division of Music develops artists and scholars uniquely positioned to thrive in the 21st century by integrating exceptional performance, academic and service opportunities with a solid Christian liberal arts foundation.

Communication arts. The most recent Oklahoma Broadcast Education association annual competition included 200 entries from universities across the state, including the state’s largest universities. Whether encouraging an individual through the implementation of your psychology degree, influencing future generations in an elementary classroom, or improving someone’s quality of life as a physical therapist, the College of humanities and social sciences will prepare you for life as a change agent.

The college contains four divisions of study:

One of our fastest growing areas of academic study is the division of kinesiology and Leisure studies (kaLs). students are being prepared for careers in physical therapy, camp administration, sports management and wellness.

OBU is also home to the National sports and recreation Ministry Center, led by dr. Bill Buchanan, arguably the nation’s leading expert in the field.

The division of Teacher Education takes a back seat to no one. recent graduates passed their competency exams at a rate of 97 percent, and 99 percent are teaching full time.

Our Psychology program can either prepare you for graduate work or move you further toward the goal of licensed counseling.

Obu was the first university in the state to offer the bachelor of Science degree in nursing.

When you study in the College of Nursing at OBU, you will benefit from more than 50 years of experience in training nurses and learn to demonstrate the compassion of Christ in your profession. OBU nursing graduates are in high demand by major healthcare systems and community hospitals alike.

Why should you study nursing at OBU? Nursing at a four-year liberal arts university will provide you a much broader and deeper education than you will receive at other institutions.

You will take your first nursing class in your first semester at OBU.

Far from staying cooped up in the laboratory, our students participate in regional conferences and perform independent senior research projects. For example, you will have the opportunity to complete field research around volcanoes in Costa rica and hawaii.

The faculty of the herschel h. hobbs College of Theology and Ministry will help you deepen your faith, explore your calling and prepare for a life of service.

all OBU students have the opportunity to interact with the faculty in this area through Common Core requirements in religion and Philosophy. students are impacted by the content of the courses and even more so by the character of the professors.

students majoring in the hobb’s College have a variety of paths from which to choose. Opportunities are available to study in religion, Philosophy, applied Ministry and Biblical Languages. Graduates are equipped for careers on a local church staff, on the mission field or continued study in a graduate level program. Many OBU students select a minor in the hobb’s College to increase their Biblical knowledge and equip themselves to serve in a variety of ministry venues.

More than half of all college students take six years to earn their “four-year” degree. We pledge to actively collaborate with you and help you graduate in four years, allowing you to begin graduate studies or secure your dream job sooner. This is The bison pledge.

1. OBU will offer all required courses necessary for you to complete an undergraduate degree and graduate with a single major within four years.

2. OBU will provide a qualified faculty advisor to assist you in scheduling your classes and keeping you on track to graduate within four years.

3. OBU will provide academic support services to assist you in successfully completing your degree and graduating within four years.

4. If you keep your part of The bison pledge and you are unable to complete your degree within four years, OBU will provide the additional course(s) you need to complete your degree at no tuition cost or offer acceptable substitute courses.

Grab some friends and catch a movie at the $1.50 theatre downtown or at one of our two multiplex theaters. Get a snow cone, or play Ultimate Frisbee at a local park. Each year, shawnee businesses prepare for your arrival to campus and host spotlight on shawnee. It’s really a big downtown block party where they give away great free stuff!

Choosing OBU means you have plenty of space to roam. so head down the road to Oklahoma City where you can cheer on the Thunder as they battle NBa foes. visit one of the museums, catch a Broadway show, enjoy a redhawks baseball game or eat at a great restaurant in Bricktown. Plan a road trip to the Wichita Mountains to hike, camp and climb, or head to another corner of the state and float the river. You’ll find the nearby urban areas are close enough to enjoy cultural events or to complete an internship.

WELcOME WEEk is designed to get you acclimated to your new environment. We promise that our Tri-Ws will make you feel at home at OBU by the end of the week.

Tri-Ws (Welcome Week Workers) are upperclassmen who return to campus early just to show you the ropes. You’ll feel welcomed from the moment you pull onto Bison hill as they descend on your car, unload all your earthly possessions and carry it all to your new room. Your parents will be particularly glad about that!

For the next four days you’ll be engaged in high-energy activities and meaningful experiences that will teach you everything from how to “go with ka-rip” and how to serve shawnee, to how to pursue scholarship through a Christian worldview.

January term (J-term)a three-week mini-term is offered in January, right before the spring semester begins. J-term is mandatory for new freshmen, but you would want to take it anyway. housing is free if you lived in a residence hall during the fall semester, and some J-term courses are tuition-free. OBU provides unique course offerings, and there is still plenty of activity on campus. Continue building the relationships you established in the fall, and maintain progress on your degree.
