Title Box 1: What is the function of the endocrine system?
Made up of various glands that maintain homeostasis through the use of hormones
Title Box 2: What are hormones?
Hormones = chemicals that are released and travel the blood stream to affect the activities of cells
Very specific and only affect certain cells!
Title Box 3: How are the NS and Endocrine system similar/different?
Both maintain homeostasis in the body
The NS uses chemicals called neurotransmitters while endocrine system uses chemicals called hormones.
Title Box 4: How does the endocrine system work through feedback loops?
Negative feedback = a “stimulus” causes an opposite “reaction” in order to maintain homeostasis
Ex: Eating a candy bar raises blood sugar levels and my pancreas makes insulin to lower it.
In this example what's the stimulus? In this example what's the stimulus?
Title Box 5: What are the major endocrine glands?
Pituitary Gland = “master gland”
Pineal Gland = “sleep gland”
Thyroid Gland = “metabolism gland”
Pancreas = “sugar level”
Adrenal Glands = “fight or flight”
Title Box 6: Exit Ticket
