Obituaries News from North Gouverneur George W. King Jr.

HARRISVILLE -A graveside War, and was a Presbyterian.

i service for George William Kin Jr., 53, Ladson, S.C., formerly o Harrisville, was held in Wanakena Cemetery.

Mr. King died of a heart attack March 19, 2003, in Summerville Medical Center, Ladson.

Arrangements were with James A. Dval Funeral Home, Sum­merville, S.C. Local arrangements are with Hawley Funeral Home, Star Lake.

Mr. King retired from the Air Force as a technical sergeant, hav­ing served during the Vietnam

Born Nov. 23, 1949, in Gou­verneur, son of George W. Sr. and Lois L. Peabody King, he graduated from Clifton-Fine Central School, Star Lake.

He married Patricia Briggs on Jan. 16, 1971, in Star Lake Presby­terian Church.

Surviving besides his parents, of Harrisville, formerly of Wanakena, and his wife are a son, Aaron M., Ladson.

Donations may be made to a charity of one's choice.

Katharine I. Coffey OSWEGATCHIE -Katharine I.

Dodds Coffey, 70, of 3369 Route 3, died Thursday, July 15, 2004 in Canton-Potsdam Hospital, Pots­dam.

Mrs. Coffev was a homemaker. Born May 8, 1934, in Russell,

daughter of George W. and Maude Wilcox Dodds, she attended school in Russell.

She married Clifford Coffey on

three daughters, Shirley Heath, Watertown, Mary Coffey, Newton Falls, and Julie Rider, Guilderland; two sisters, Jean Given, Norfolk, and Sally Tupper, Pierrepont, six grandchildren and four great­grandchildren.

The funeral was held at Hawley Funeral Home, Star Lake, with the Rev. Leon B. Sweeney,

Jane-Ellen Yerdon GOUVERNEUR -Jane-Ellen

Yerdon, 81, Gouverneur, died Saturday, July 17, 2004 in Kinney Nursing Home.

Mrs. Yerdon was a homemaker. •

Yerdon on Dec. 6, 1946, at First Methodist Church with the Rev. Harold A. Thomas officiating. Mr. Yerdon died June 27, 1986.

Surviving are two sons, Patrick O'Riley, Spragueville, and David

you better hurry, as there are only three days left. If you let the days go by it means a whole year to wait till it comes again.

It's been a busy week at Maysel Jones home, ft all started last Sunday when her daughter Sharon and husband Ned Dreuhl arrived for a visit. Ned left on Tuesday morning for New York City to get a plane back home to California Sharon stayed on and she and her mother were able to visit a niece in Henderson Harbor one day, called an Maysel's brother-in-law at the Cedar Nursing home, and on Friday they enjoyed a cook-out at the camp oi Maysel's grandson Mike and Lisa Green at Trout Lake. Nancy Green joined them for supper. Sunday Nancy Green and Linda Love took Sharon to Syracuse for her plane ride home.

Sally and Clinton Thompson spent July 10 at the Woodsman Field Day at Tupper Lake They spent the night in Cranberry Lake and Sunday called on friends before returning home.

The Thompsons has also been a busy place this past week. Wednesday, daughter Jane Kuitums of Webster and a friend Linda came and stayed till Friday, Eric and his son Caleb of Lowville arrived Friday afternoon and left on Sunday. It was Saturday morning when granddaughter Angel George

Vera E. Norton GOUVERNEUR- Vera E.

Norton died Wednesday, July 21, 2004 at United Helpers Nursing Home, Oedensburg.

The funeral will be held Friday at 1p.m. at Green Funeral Home, Gouverneur. Burial will be private.

Calling will be the funeral home Thursday from 7-8p.m.

The Kinneys were in Saratoga Springs for a few days in June for on July 16 after picking up Hannah from Clarkson. She had a wonderful week of science and math experiments and meeting new friends from all over the state. The Kinney clan was together for Ivan's 69* birthday on Saturday, July 17.

She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, where she was a past president and past county president. She also was a seamstress and enjoyed crocheting, -knitting and sewing.

Born July 15, 1923, in De Queen, Ark., daughter of Joe A. and Cora Lee Peterson Latta, she attended Luther Burbank School, Burbank. Calif.

Marriages to Corey Stamper and Thomas O'Riley 'ended in divorce.

She married Murray Everett

and their husbands, Linda and Robert Brown, Gouverneur, and Norma and Hank Turner, Rose; a brother, Jerry Wing, Los Angeles, 19 grandchildren and 26 great­grandchildren.

A brother, William "Sonny" Fraday, died before her.

The funeral was held at French Funeral Home with the Rev. Alan D. Kinney, pastor of First United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial was in Riverside Cemetery.

Franklin E. Klock THERESA- Franklin E. Klock,

72. Theresa, died Sunday, July 18, 2004, at Veterans Hospital, Syracuse.

Mr. Klock owned and operated a family farm in Theresa and was a self-employed truck driver. He had worked at Gouverneur Talc and Longyear Drilling Co., Gouverneur.

He was a former member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars posts in Gouverneur and Philadelphia. He enjoyed hunting and crossword puzzles.

Bom Feb. 8, 1932. in Hermon, son of George H. and Edna Simmons Klock, he attended Gouverneur Central School and was a veteran of the Korean War.

He married Virginia Eichom on Sept. 29, 1956, in Spragueville. The marriage ended in divorce.

He is survived by wife, Blitha Prashaw Klock: four sons Donald E., Theresa. Ricky E., Georgia, Russell E., Arizona, and B. Scott, Texas; a daughter. Michele R.

Klock, Rossie; Ms. * Prashaw's children, R. Bruce Prashaw, Arizona, and Kimbeily J. Slawter, North Carolina; a brother, Frederick, Gouverneur; five sisters, Ordetta Sharpe and Beverly Sharpe, both of Madrid, Lucinda Denee and Zelphia Macintosh, both of Wegatchie, and Frances Dudley, Auburn, 16 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Five brothers, Basil, George, Morris, Henry and Donald, and three sisters, Martha Pedroza, Bonnie Bell Klock and Norma Klock, died before him.

The funeral will be at 11a.m. Thursday at French Funeral Home, Gouverneur, with the Rev. Alan D. Kinney officiating. Burial will be in Oxbow Cemetery.

Donations may be made to the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 3049, Syracuse, NY 13220 or the American Cancer Society, Northern District Office, 94 E. Main St., Malone, NY 12953.

SANDY CREEK -Lewis C. Griffis, 71, Cicero and New Port, Richey, Fla., formerly of Sandy their meeting. Creek, died Saturday, July 17, 2004 in Crouse Hospital, Syracuse, after a brief illness.

Mr. Griffis lived in Cicero for 44 years. He retired from Carrier Corp., Syracuse, after 30 years. He was a process control manager in the light-residential division.

He was a member of Cicero United Methodist Church and First United Methodist Church of New Port Richey. He enjoyed spending winters in Florida and refmishing furniture.

Born Sept. 11, 1932, in Gou­verneur, son of John and Norma Bristol Griffis, he grew up in Sandy Creek, graduating from Sandy Creek High School in 1950. A veteran of the Korean War, he served in the Air Force from 1950 to 1954.

On July 10, Mr. Griffis and his wife, the former Marilyn Pratt, celebrated 50 years of marriage by renewing their vows at Cicero United Methodist Church.

Surviving besides his wife are two daughters and their husbands, Michele and Robert O'Brien, Clay, and Susan and Michael Briggs, Al-pharetta, Ga.; a sister, Joanne Weaver, Fulton; five grand­children, six great-grand-children, sisters-and brothers-in-law and several nieces and nephews.

An infant son, Timothy, died in 1960.

The funeral was held Wednesday at Cicero United Methodist Church with the Rev. Everett Bassett officiating. Burial was in Evergreen Cemetery, Or­well.

Arrangements were , with Foster-Hax Funeral Home, Pulaski.

Hope Daniels and Jason Cameron were united in marriage on July 17 at the Waddington Beach. It was a beautiful day for the wedding and reception. Hope is the daughter of Lisle and Dora Bigelow and Jason is the son of Gordon and Debra Cameron. They make their home in Ogdensburg.

Ivan and Joan Kinney drove to the home of Jean Piro, North Syracuse, on Saturday, July 10. Debbie and Jeffrey Piro,

Fullmer, daughter of Jean, of Doubletree, GA, were with Jean Piro as John Piro died last week. John and Jean attended the Andrews Memorial United Methodist church for many years. Pastor Rev. Brad Hunt was formerly of Heuvelton and officiated at the service. Debbie and the Rev. Hunt found that in common- both from way up north and both from farms. They enjoyed remembering the former and current pastors of the Methodist Church in North Gouverneur. In such a time of deep sorrow, it brought some beautiful levity to
