As health care professional we need to become more familiar with BMIs, as many people are under the misconception that it takes a large amount of weight to place an individual in the overweight or obese categories. For example 52 at 170lbs is a BMI of 31. Health problems begin at BMI 30-35 range and significant health problems >40. Obesity will increase the risk of approximately 30 disease processes.
