Importance of Oak Woodland

Common ecosystem within the western US. Between 300 and 500 species of oaks

worldwide. 60 species of amphibians and reptiles, 100

species of mammals, 150 species of birds, rely on oaks.

Provides food (ex. Acorns). Provides shelter, nesting sites, and shade.

Scientists.. Divide particular ecosystem into sections. Observe and record what they find in each

section. Gather information. Draw conclusions about characteristics of

ecosystem.
