MISSION: The mission of Oak Ridge High School Naval Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps is to empower cadets to continue their education, achieve their personal and unit goals, and to teach them how to become great American Citizens. Cadets are taught four different classroom courses and coached in seven team events and competitions such as Armed Drill, Unarmed Drill, Color Guard, Academic/Brain Brawl, Air Rifle, Athletics, and Orienteering. Our unit had 95 cadets from the local area ranging from 14 to 18 years old. SERVICE The goal this year is for our cadets to perform over 1,000 community service hours, giving back to the Oak Ridge community. We provide color guards for local sporting venues, march in parades and support any other local organization that have a need that we can help with. In addition, we will be traveling to local area schools in Anderson County, Loudon County and Knox County to compete against other NJROTC programs. Our cadets will also compete nationally against other JROTC programs in academic and athletic competitions as well. Additionally, our cadets will visit college campuses, military bases and historical sites relating to military history. YOUR HELP: Our unit is funded by the Oak Ridge City School District and any competitions, field trips, or other educational activities must be paid completely by unit fundraisers, corporate partners and community donations. To effectively run a unit, it will require approximately $20,000 a year in fundraising to compete at various levels. With these monies, we will pay for competitions, athletic clothing, lodging, transportation, and food for travel. We will be performing various fundraisers each year but JROTC units invariably run short of time and money goals and therefore rely heavily on community support. Please consider a donation to Oak Ridge High School NJROTC Booster Club. Please see the back of this page for donation levels. All corporate donors will be listed on our website at orhsnjrotc.org. Thank you for your time and consideration. Very respectfully, Chief Ryan L. Nicholls
