Northwestern University Dance Marathon NUDM is one of the larg-est student-run philanthropies in the nation and one of Northwestern’s oldest tradi-tions. The 2012-2013 academic year marks the 39th annual Dance Marathon. This past year, NUDM raised over one million dollars for The B+ (Positive) Foundation in the fight against childhood cancer; the second year in a row Dance Marathon has surpassed the million dollar mark. Since 1975, NUDM has been planned, coordinated, and executed by students. Northwestern is proud to have supporters from across the country in helping NUDM to raise more than $13 million for 32 beneficiaries since its founding.

Each year, Northwestern University Dance Marathon prides itself on its ability to unite nearly 1,500 students in a year long commitment of fundraising, volunteering, and publicizing for a chosen beneficiary. In the fall, students pledge to raise a minimum of $800 and then in the winter take on the challenge of dancing for 30 hours straight for the selected cause. At the end of our yearlong efforts, more than 15,000 students, alumni, faculty, family and community members unite in Northwestern’s Norris Uni-versity Center to take part in DM events, show support for our dancers, and honor our beneficiary. While nearly 1,000 students come together to dance all night, all day, and all night again, dancers have thousands of supporters drop by to watch, offer encour-agement, and take part in the DM events held throughout the weekend. Nearly 10,000 more participate online by watching our 30-hour live stream at www.nudm.org.

Primary Bene!ciary: the Danny Did FoundationThe Danny Did Foundation works to advance the awareness of epilepsy and Sudden Unexpected Death in Epilepsy (SUDEP), an effort dedicated to helping more than 3 million Americans suffering with epilepsy and its complications. Founded in 2010 by Mike and Mariann Stanton, the Danny Did Foundation has focused on enhancing com-munication between medical professionals and those affected by epilepsy. Through a series of family-friendly fundraisers and events, the Danny Did Foundation is making a difference in Chicagoland communities and across the country. By helping to subsidize the cost of seizure detection and epileptic prediction devices, the Danny Did Founda-tion is committed to preventing more than 50,000 deaths that occur annually in the U.S. from seizure-related causes. With the support of NUDM, medical professionals around the world, and communities across the country, the Danny Did Foundation iscommitted to making a difference.

Secondary Bene!ciary: The Evanston Community FoundationThe Evanston Community Foundation is a publicly supported philanthropic organiza-tion dedicated to enriching Evanston (our hometown) and the lives of its people, now and in the future. The Foundation builds and manages its own and other community endowments, addresses Evanston’s changing needs through grant-making, and pro-vides leadership on important community issues.

In addition to the millions of dollars contributed to 24 other beneficiaries in our history, here are some of NUDMs’ recent fundraising totals.

Dance Marathon’s Corporate Relations Program will connect your company with one of Northwestern University’s oldest and largest traditions. As one of the most highly visible organizations on campus and the surrounding community, supporting DM increases the vis-ibility and recognition of your company with our extensive network of supporters. Dance Marathon is one of the university’s most beloved traditions, achieving tremendous school pride and recognition across the country.

A partnership with Northwestern University Dance Marathon allows us to create effective and innovative opportunities for each of our corporate sponsors. We will seek to strengthen your company’s presence and visibility on our campus and in the Chicagloand area by pro-viding support and exposure to our extensive NUDM, Northwestern, and Chicago communi-ties. Whether your participation comes as a monetary, product, or in-kind donation, it will be paired with a customized package of sponsor benefits, all of which are outlined in this guide.

Every year, while over 1,000 students are dancing for 30 hours straight, Northwestern Uni-versity Dance Marathon also attracts more than 15,000 supporters, faculty, family, and com-munity members to come take part in the event. Our outreach expands beyond campus as we engage the surrounding Evanston community throughout the year, building support and generating excitement for the event. With the help of our corporate sponsors, our public-ity has extended to over 200,000 people. A partnership with Dance Marathon will not only benefit your company and our organization, but it also will ultimately and more importantly allow our beneficiary, the Danny Did Foundation, to reach even more families affected by SUDEP and childhood epilepsy. Join our tradition, join our community, and join the battle against epilepsy. Join DM 2013.

How To DonateNorthwestern University

Dance Marathon

Northwestern University Dance Marathon is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit agency, and the value of any donated items(s) is (are) tax deductible to the extent al-lowed by law.

More than 97 percent of all funds raised by NUDM will go directly to The Dan-ny Did Foundation and the Evanston Community Foundation. 90 percent of the funds distributed will go to the Danny Did Foundation and 10 percent will go to the Evanston Community Foundation. Northwestern University Dance Marathon accepts both monetary and product donations.

Monetary donations are the most useful to Dance Marathon: Monetary dona-tions allow NUDM to maximize the direct contirbutions to our beneficiaries, The Danny Did Foundation and the Evanston Community Foundation.

Product donations are also greatly appreciated: Product donations are used to help us reduce our costs, motivate our participants to fundraise more, and as a secondary method of fundraising through auctions and raffles. However, product donations have a more indirect route towards benefiting the Danny Did Foundation and ECF. For this reason, monetary donations, when possible, are strongly preferred.

If you would like to donate to NUDM, please fill out a brief online donation form on the corporate page of our website, www.nudm.org/corporate, and
