Dear Parishioners,My first few months here have been full of surprises. None of us expected the

parish hall roof to be collapsing, but that is the reality. We will keep the walls, but need to replace everything between the floor and the sky -- a challenge to be sure.

We have been working on solving this problem with assistance from the Diocesan Building Renovation Advisory Commission (BRAC). The diocesan archivist came to the rescue with a copy of the prints for the building. Currently we are contacting architects and requesting proposals for a new roof. Then, we discuss options with the BRAC.

The parishioners of St. Andrew’s, St. Theresa’s, and Sacred Heart saw a summary of revenue and expenses in mid July for last fiscal year (July 2010 - June 2011). That year, Holy Trinity’s revenue was $289,279 with $300,323 in operating expenses. This year St. Andrew’s sends Holy Trinity a $6,000 check every month to cover shared sacramental and administrative costs. Similarly, Sacred Heart and St Theresa’s send checks every month to St. Andrew’s.

Pastors are stewards of parish financial resources; for nearly 42 years the priests of Holy Trinity have relied on the faithful service of Susan Cope, bookkeeper and secretary, to aid in this responsibility. She retired October 31st; our parish faces another change.

The parish finance council follows guidelines established by the bishop to assist the pastor in these responsibilities. Important as they are, pastoral care is most important.

Pastoral leadership always involves consultation with members of the faithful -- sometimes informally, other times formally. Our bishop issued a document in 2005 guiding pastors on formal consultation regarding pastoral activity which includes: • Proclamation of the Word of God and Catechetical Formation; • Celebration of all sacraments as well as the fostering of family and individual prayer; • Service of those in spiritual and bodily need.

Each meeting of the Pastoral Council is to include significant time for prayer and study. The Pastor is the presider, in a way similar to presiding at Mass. A Convener gathers materials and the agenda. A Facilitator might be appointed to assist with planning, decision-making, and problem solving. A Recorder is responsible for correspondence and clerical tasks.

Our Pastoral Council will follow these guidelines -- you can find the entire document at catholic-doc.org I have been listening for parishioners to be on the council -- parishioners noted for prayerfulness, fidelity, and listening to fellow parishioners with the spirit of right judgement. I am open to suggestions, then will appoint members freely. One Pastoral Council will meet to discuss the needs of all of my parishes and missions, and membership will reflect the whole diversity of the communities.

The most pressing pastoral decision we have been facing is sacramental preparation for adults and sponsors.
