Please encourage your child to read at home each night! As we are getting ready to move into our multiplication and division unit, please have your child utilize flash cards to help with their basic math facts. Reflex has been set up for all students to start or continue practicing multiplication facts. I HAVE ATTACHED PICTURES. Reading - This past week we continued to discuss theme in literature. Themes are the central focus of the story or narrative. Themes express the intended lesson, conclusion, message, or point of view of the author. Themes connect all the parts of the story such as characters, plot, problem (conflict), setting, and event(s). We also talked about the importance of nonfiction text features and how we use them as we are reading /using nonfiction texts. Math- We concluded our Money Unit on Friday. We will work on a fun breakout activity on Monday and begin our multiplication & division unit on Tuesday. Writing/Grammar - Students are at different stages of their Thankful writing. Some students have conferenced with me and are currently working on their final drafts. Other students are still working on their prewriting. Last week we discussed using commas in a series or three or more words, when using a city and state, between the day and year, and when writing a friendly letter. We will continue to practice this skill throughout the week. Social Studies- This past week, we discussed the geographic features of Europe and North America. Students will have to know details and locations for the following geographical features: Europe- Mediterranean Sea, Italian Peninsula, and the Alps; North America- Mississippi River, Rio Grande River, Appalachian/Rocky Mountains, and the Great Lakes. In South America- Amazon River, Amazon Rainforest, and Andes Mountains. In Africa- Nile River, Atlas Mountains, and Sahara Desert; Asia- Huang He River, Himalaya Mountains, Gobi Desert. We will finish up with South America this week and review for our upcoming test on Friday. Please make sure your child is studying each night.
