THE MOST HOLY TRINITY

Journey of Faith

We are on a long and eventful journey. Today's readings for Trinity Sunday succinctly cover the depth and breadth of our human travels. The very beginnings of our journey are revealed in the reading from Proverbs. God's plan filled with divine wisdom was born before the earth was made. In today's Gospel, Jesus speaks of his own personal journey. He has come from the Father and will return to the Father. Only then will the Advocate--the Spirit of Truth--take us onward.

This does not diminish the fact that the journey will be hard. The very setting of the Gospel is the night before Jesus died. As Saint Paul writes to the Romans, "[W]e even boast of our afflictions, knowing that affliction produces endurance, and endurance, proven character, and proven character, hope" (Romans 5:3-4). Ultimately, our human journey is modeled by the Holy Trinity--a family of love among Father, Son, and Spirit that we are all called to emulate.

CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR PACT PARTICIPANT "I have baptized you with water; he will baptize you

with the Holy Spirit" - Mark 13:11.

Our parish family warmly welcomed and congratulated our PACT participant this year, Linda Lamaute Mermar, who received the Sacrament of Confirmation on Pentecost Sunday at 10:30 Mass, taking the Confirmation name Annette.

We pray the Holy Spirit continues to deepen her relationship with the Lord and His Church, especially those whose lives she will touch through

the living of her faith. Linda's sponsor was her husband, Tom, who stood at her side as she was anointed by Father Paddy.

Special thanks to our PACT ministry, as well as to Linda’s sponsor, her family members and friends, who offered their support throughout her journey to commitment to the faith. What a gift to witness the evangelizing spirits that support our newest members to the Body of Christ and are a blessing to our parish family and our Catholic faith!

MASS CARDS AND LAMP INTENTIONS

Mass Cards are available at the Hospitality Desk in our Gathering Space before or after any weekend Masses. Please also note that we have three lamps that burn continuously throughout the week for the intentions of either living or deceased loved ones: the Sanctuary Lamp, which is located on the wall behind the Tabernacle, and the St. Benedict and

Mother of Compassion lamps, which burn in front of those two icons in our chapel. Each lamp intention lasts for an entire week and is also printed in our parish bulletin.

If you would like to remember a loved one in any of these special ways, please stop by our Hospitality Desk before or after any weekend Masses, or call Maria in the parish office at ext. 100.

VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL UPDATE

All the 1st & 3rd grade spots have been filled for our rock solid Cave Quest Vacation Bible School program for the week of July 11th. All other grade levels (prek4, kindergarten, 1st, 2nd, 4th and 5th) have space available. Register at www.ndcarmel.com before June 10th.

God has a plan for each child. And that plan often reaches beyond our understanding. Since God is in control of these wonderfully created children, so too does God control the

ministries that touch their lives.

FAITH FORMATION JOURNEY FOR CHILDREN WITH SPECIAL NEEDS

The first step for including children with special needs in any program at church or elsewhere begins with personal attitudes. Inclusion has more to do with one's philosophy, approach, and willingness to learn than a "how to" check list. It is about seeing each child, no matter how challenged, as having the potential to learn and the same need to be loved and included as all other children. In the church, inclusion is also about wanting every child to know that they are deeply loved by God. Each child deserves the opportunity to worship and learn about God in whatever way he or she is able. With this foundation, a way can be found to include everyone - even the most challenged children.

Do you know someone who has a child with special needs? Please tell them about our SPECIAL NEEDS Faith Formation/Religious Ed. Program, which offers children from 5 through 21 the ability to learn about the love and care of Jesus in their own way and at their own pace. For more information please contact Marilyn at 973-538-1358, ext. 121.

BLESSING OF GRADUATES

Before you were even formed, God knew you. While in your Mother's womb, God named you. At your birth, God's breath filled you with life.

Today we celebrate what you have become at this moment in time. And so we pray,

God of our beginnings, We thank you for the gifts of these graduates;

their excitement, their awesome wonder and curiosity, their open speech and encouraging words.

Their contributions have blessed and challenged us, and we have become a richer

and more diverse community because of them.

As they step forward into the world that awaits, comfort their fears with the full knowledge

of your divine presence. Strengthen their resolve to walk in the footsteps of Jesus

as modern-day disciples in a world that needs their spirit. Guide their feet as they move through life,

protecting them from the pitfalls of darkness while they help to lead future generations into the warmth and promise of your light.

We ask this blessing upon each of them, In the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

AMEN!

VIVERE CHRISTUS AWARDS PRESENTED!

On Pentecost Sunday, May 15, at a diocesan service at St. Philip the Apostle in Clifton, Bishop Serratelli presented the 8th annual Vivere Christus Est Award to lay people from every parish in the diocese who were chosen as individuals who live as faithful stewards of God’s grace and generosity. Several Notre Dame

parishioners and Fr. Paddy were present at the ceremony to witness parishioner Marc Luciani receive the award.

It is readily acknowledged by all who know him that Marc, in his humble and generous attitude of service, exemplifies what Bishop Serratelli had in mind when he instituted this prestigious award. From the time that he and his family became Notre Dame parishioners in 1997, Marc has selflessly shared his talents and faith in a wide range of ministries: Extraordinary Ministers; Follow Me faith leader; Adoration; scheduling of all liturgical ministers; and last, but not least, his tireless and valuable contributions as our parish sacristan.

Congratulations, Marc -- your faith, love and dedication to serving are an inspiration and a blessing to us all!
