PARISH ANNOUNCEMENTS

Mass Schedule for Feast of the

Immaculate Conception, a Holy Day of Obligation: Friday, Decem-

ber 8, 6:30am Low Mass, 12:00Noon Low Mass, 6:30PM High Mass.

Online Giving: Our new Mater

Misericordiae website, which is still under construction, now offers you the chance to give online. Now when you are away from the parish and would still like to contribute or if you like the convenience of doing your transactions online, you can do so by following the link

at phoenixlatinmass.org.

Requiescat in Pace: Please pray for the repose of

the soul of Mr. Gerald H. Thornton who passed away last week. He was devoted to the rosary and scapular and died days before First Saturday. His Requiem Mass is Monday, December 4 at 10:00am here at Mater Misericordiae. The Mass will be preceded by the rosary

at 9:00am.

Adult Catechism Class: This Advent, Fr. Malain will

be kicking off a new "Adult Catechism Class" on Thurs-day nights focused on explaining and teaching how to participate in the Traditional Latin Mass offered here at Mater Misericordiae. If you are new to the Latin Mass, or if you just want to learn more and appreciate

more this beautiful Liturgical heritage of the Roman Catholic Church, come and join us.

The first three classes will be held on December 7, 14, 21. Further dates and frequency of classes will

be decided after Christmas. Classes will begin at 7:15pm in church hall.

Christmas Decorating at MM: Please save the

date, December 16 to help Fr. Malain and Passo with Christmas decorating. This year we also plan on deco-rating the exterior of the church with lights, so we will need more volunteers than usual. After decorating the

church, a simple lunch will be served for all to en-

joy. More details to come.

FSSP Mission Trips for Young Adults: Each year

a group of priests and seminarians from the FSSP lead mission trips to various Latin American countries to help the poorest of the poor. The missionaries do vari-ous activities, including building houses, visiting the sick, working with orphans, etc. The trips are about

two weeks long. I (Fr. Passo) highly recommend these trips as they are well organized by those in charge, are spiritually uplifting, and can even be a life chang-ing event. Personally I can tell you that my visit to Tijuana, Mexico and working alongside the Missionaries of Charity in 2005 was truly a life changing event for

me. One of the deciding factors which helped facilitate my eventual decision to leave the world behind and

respond to my vocation. There are some flyers about the upcoming trips, in the spring/summer of 2018, posted on the bulletin board. More information for those interested and for those who would like to spon-sor a young missionary can be found

at sfxmission.com.

2018 FSSP Liturgical Calendars: FSSP liturgical

calendars are on sale for $10 after all Masses today

(12/3). See one of the Ladies in the vestibule to pur-chase your calendar. First come first serve.

SUNDAY COLLECT.

Stir up Thy power, we beseech Thee, O Lord, and

come: that from the threatening dangers of our sins, by Thy protection we may deserve to be rescued, and

be saved by Thy deliverance: Who livest and reignest

with God the Father, in the unity of the Holy Ghost, God, world without end.

SUNDAY EPISTLE: Romans 13: 11-14 Brethren, knowing that it is now the hour for us to rise from sleep. For now our salvation is nearer than when

we believed. The night is passed and the day is at hand. Let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and put on the armour of light. Let us walk honestly, as in the day: not in rioting and drunkenness, not in chambering and impurities, not in contention and envy: but put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ.

SUNDAY GOSPEL: St. Luke 21: 25-33

At that time Jesus said to His disciples: There shall be

signs in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars; and upon the earth distress of nations, by reason of the confusion of the roaring of the sea and of the waves: men withering away for fear and expectation of what shall come upon the whole world. For the powers of heaven shall be moved. And then they shall see the

Son of man coming in a cloud with great power and majesty. But when these things begin to come to pass, look up and lift up your heads, because your re-demption is at hand. And He spoke to them a simili-tude: See the fig tree and all the trees: when they now shoot forth their fruit, you know that summer is nigh. So you also, when you shall see these things come to

pass, know that the kingdom of God is at hand. Amen, I say to you, this generation shall not pass away till all things be fulfilled. Heaven and earth shall pass away: but My words shall not pass away.

Please pray for the success of the Fraternity.

Meals for Mothers: At such a busy time of the

year, new mothers could really use your charity by pre-

paring meals for them. Fr. Passo encourages those who cook well to contact Elisabeth: [email protected]. May God reward you for your corporal work of mercy and helping these young mothers by preparing a meal for them.

Pro-Life Rosary: The priests of MMM would like to

continue the steadfast practice of praying outside the

abortion clinic on Thursday mornings through the sum-mer. Please join us if you are able to attend. The Ro-sary will begin at 8:00am at Family Planning Associates located at 700 E. Willeta in Phoenix.

Knights of Columbus Christmas Poster Con-

test: The Knights are announcing a Christmas poster contest with cash prizes, and all children of the parish

are invited to make an entry. 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners will be selected from two age groups: 12 and younger, and 13 and older. Submissions must be at least 8 1/2 by 11 inches in size. Cash prizes will be $50 for 1st place, $25 for 2nd place, and $15 for 3rd place. The Knights encourage the use of creativity and the incorporation of Catholic Christmas traditions. Entries

Bake Sale and Crafts Fair: This event will be held

on Sunday, December 10, after the three Masses. We are still in need of thirteen volunteers who can donate homemade baked goods. This fundraising effort gives us an opportunity to support FSSP seminarians Martin Garcia, Rick Wallace, Elijah Mundattuchundayil, and

Andrew Miller, parishioners of Mater Misericordiae, who

have answered God's call to the priesthood. Deacons Garcia and Wallace will be ordained to the priesthood in May 2018. To sign up, please contact Julie via email: [email protected].

SET at CCD: Safe Environment Training for the CCD

classes will be held during regular class on December 17. The sixth graders will have two session: December 17 and the second TBD. Parents do reserve the right to teach Safe Environment themselves at home to their

children. If you feel this would best fit your needs please sign an Opt Out Form. You will be given a copy of the lesson plan. A letter explaining the content of the lesson plans will be sent home with the children shortly. If you have any questions or concerns please contact Ron Garcia or Maria Stenner.

Safe Environment Update: We are fast approach-

ing the deadline for all Safe Environment Training re-newals (December 31). Please help the Priest of MM

by either renewing your SET or if you are doing your SET certification for the first time, by attending a Foun-dation Class. We will have a Foundation class here at our Parish on December 9. Drinks and refreshments will be provided. If all you need is a renewal, please visit: www.safeenvironmenttraining.org, select "Online Renewal", enter your SET ID# or enter your name and

street address. The newest video is "Keeping the Promise Alive". The video is 32 minutes long. You must watch the entire video and answer the easy questions to get credit. If you need the Foundation Class-- Protecting God's Children for Adults (3 hours):

click on "Register for Classes", you will see many listings, pick and register for the class most con-venient for you. Please bring your Volunteer Appli-cation and Code of Ethics back to MM's Safe Envi-
