READY! STEADY! Peugot 308 R Hybrid is... GO!

The Peugeot 308 R Hybrid, revealed at the Shanghai motor show earlier this year, looks set to make production as PSA boss Carlos Tavares has been pictured testing the car on the road.

Peugeot boss Maxime Picat has published pictures of the 493bhp car being driven by Tavares, saying it looks like the car “is ready to move.” As we all know, it has long been known that Peugeot wants to build a business case for putting the 308 R Hybrid into production, but needs to rationalise the car’s development with how many units it could sell. Picat said the concept car was “proof that we can make it, but now I want to be sure that I can sell it if I want to - it is perfectly possible, but it is a question of how much it will cost?” I think that’s a question we all want to know the answer for!

SO WHAT ABOUT THE FACTS & FIGURES?The Peugeot 308 R Hybrid gets 493bhp and 538lb ft of torque from its petrol-electric hybrid powertrain, which sees the 267bhp 1.6-litre petrol engine from the Peugeot RCZ R coupe mated to two electric motors. Combined, the car has a 0-62mph sprint time of 4.0 seconds, but emits just 70g/km of CO2. The 308 R Hybrid has been adapted to cope with the extra power on offer, with the front and rear tracks both widened by 80mm. It sits on 19-inch alloy wheels, clad with 235/35 R19 tyres. The 308 R Hybrid sends its power to all four wheels, and has upgraded brakes front and rear. There are four driving modes - Hot Lap, Track, Road, and ZEV.

Hot Lap mode is designed to make the most of the car’s power, while Track only allows access to 395bhp. Track uses the petrol engine and the rear electric motor, with the front one acting as a booster for acceleration.

Road mode has 296bhp and uses the petrol engine, supplemented by the rear

motor for acceleration, while ZEV only runs on the electric motors. Peugeot has not said how far the car can travel on electric power alone, but has said it can be fully recharged on a fast charger in just 45 minutes.

At the front, the grille has been modified and features a chequered pattern, while the bonnet has two air scoops, one on either side. It is more understated at the rear, with a narrow spoiler at the top of the tailgate. There are two more air scoops on the bumper, which help keep the battery cool by drawing out hot air. The two-tone paint job is familiar to the 308 R concept that first appeared at the 2013 Frankfurt motor show, although it is blue and black on the hybrid. The paint contains glass particles to add shine, while the colour scheme is normally only used on French competition cars.

INSIDEInside, the cockpit is familiar to the rest of the 308 range in many ways, with the same instrumentation. However, it

gets four individual sport seats, in fawn leather, while the dashboard is covered in a soft-touch fabric that Peugeot uses on its concept cars. It has the same small steering wheel as the rest of the 308 range, but with 308 Hybrid R badging. The six-speed automatic gearbox is controlled by paddles behind the wheel, and a head-up display projects the crucial data into the driver’s eye-line. However, it’s likely that the car’s aggressive styling will be toned down for the production version. Not sure if we are happy or sad about that nugget of information.

THE FUTURE AT PEUGEOTThe brand’s head of Peugeot Sport Bruno Famin stated hybrid sports cars are the future for the firm. “We have spent 12 months developing this car so far, and it is driveable - very driveable. As a company, we don’t have big engines - the 1.6-litre turbo is the biggest - but electrification is a way to add power in a very clever way. “Five hundred horsepower with 70g/km is something quite special. A team of 15 people have worked on the car for 12 months -and will continue working on it,” he said.

When the car comes to production, it will be by far the most powerful option in Peugeot’s range, eclipsing the 202bhp offered by the 308 GT and the 270bhp of the 308 R.

David Grainger, Managing Director of Norton Way Motors Ltd said: “We’re delighted to be adding the first flagship Kia dealership to our portfolio. We think the unique, original design of the dealership will attract customers in from far and wide, where they can then take advantage of Kia’s seven year warranty and range of excellent deals.” David added “we are pleased that after discussing the franchise with Kia for over four years, we will shortly open our first site’.

GWR Kia will provide everything a customer can expect from Kia. The dealership will be ‘kitted out’ with the very latest technologies available in the market place, with 3D headsets for waiting customers, an iPad customer experience area and NFC (near field communication) technology being placed around the building to support key marketing messages. One area that NFC will be used is within the café to send a signal and message to customer’s when their vehicle is ready after a service.

RENAULT-NISSAN ALLIANCE RECORD €3.8 BILLION IN SYNERGIESRenault-Nissan Alliance posts record €3.8 billion in synergies in 2014

› Purchasing, engineering and manufacturing are biggest contributors to synergies

› Common Module Family (CMF) drives synergies in all major areas

› Convergence of key functions in 2014 accelerates synergy momentum

› Sales and marketing and other functions increase contributions

The Renault-Nissan Alliance is a strategic partnership between Paris-based Renault and Yokohama, Japan-based Nissan, which together sell one in 10 cars worldwide. The companies, which have been strategic partners since 1999, sold 8.5 million cars in nearly 200 countries in 2014. The Alliance also operates strategic collaborations with other automakers including Germany’s Daimler, China’s Dongfeng, Mitsubishi Motors and India’s Ashok Leyland. The Alliance has majority stake in the joint venture that owns Russia’s top automaker AVTOVAZ.

PARIS/YOKOHAMA (July 10, 2015) The Renault-Nissan Alliance posted record synergies of €3.80 billion in 2014, up from €2.87 billion the previous year. Purchasing, engineering and manufacturing were the biggest contributors. The launch of the Alliance’s first Common Module Family (CMF) vehicles, as well as the recent convergence of four key units, helped drive synergies all three areas.

Synergies are generated from cost reductions, cost avoidance and revenue increases. Only new synergies (not cumulative) are taken into account each year. Accounting for synergies helps Renault and Nissan determine if they are meeting their performance objectives. More significantly, the net savings and revenue enhancements enable both automakers to offer higher-value vehicles to customers around the world.

“Our Common Module Family system

continues to drive synergies in all major areas from purchasing to vehicle engineering and powertrains,” said Carlos Ghosn, Chairman and CEO of the Renault-Nissan Alliance. “At the same time, the recent convergence of four key functions at Renault and Nissan Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering & Supply Chain Management, Purchasing and Human Resources is accelerating the momentum.”

Renault and Nissan converged the four

functions on April 1, 2014. While Renault and Nissan remain separate companies, each function is led by a common Alliance executive vice president. Thanks to the convergence, the Alliance expects to overachieve on its goal of generating €4.3 billion in annualized synergies by 2016. That’s up from €1.5 billion in 2009.

The owner of the vehicle will equally receive a progress report on the day of servicing, and prior to the car being returned, the Suzuki Service Centre will undertake a complementary vehicle health check for added customer peace of mind. This is combined with a wash and vacuum of the exterior and interior respectively for any model that has been pre-booked for work.

Finally, the Service Promise reinforces Suzuki’s offer of round-the-clock support in the event of an accident and owners have access to a dedicated 24-hour AfterCare helpline if their vehicle is damaged.

Denis Houston, Aftersales Director at Suzuki (GB) PLC, said: “The Service Promise reinforces our continued commitment to exceptional customer service, and to guarantee that vehicle owners receive the very same high level of care regardless of where they are located. Following our intensive customer research forums and the very encouraging Motor Codes poll, we will now be looking to improve on our previous score so that every Suzuki driver is totally satisfied with their visit to one of our nationwide Service Centres.”

Suzuki targets customer satisfaction by making Service Promise

Suzuki GB PLC has now unveiled its Service Promise, a new aftersales programme designed to ensure that vehicle owners receive a consistently high standard of care across its entire network of Service Centres. The introduction of the nationwide scheme is the result of extensive research forums whereby customers gave direct feedback of what they really want from Suzuki when it’s time for a service or repair.

Service Promise also builds on the positive results of the 2014 Motor Codes Report whereby in the annual survey of UK motorists, Suzuki was named as the manufacturer which provided drivers with the best overall service and repair experience in the UK, with 97.5 per cent of individuals fully satisfied.

As part of the nine point Service Promise, all prices quoted are fully transparent with no hidden charges and the charter underlines the importance of all pre-approved work being carried out by Suzuki’s expertly trained technicians, as well as the use of Genuine Parts for the replacement of worn components.
