Our History

• First national meeting Spring 2002 • Approved 2004; launched 2005• Funding

•Institutional assessment = 0.8% of 3(b) & (c) funds•New Technologies in Agricultural Extension (USDA)

• Focus on Communities of Practice• Multi-institutional teams; most received funding• “Best of best” content• FAQs• 74+ CoPs created

Our Recent Past

• Much content was duplicated from institutional sites• Directors viewed it as competing with institutional sites, and not very effective; unneeded• Significant growth in social media systems• Institutional capability increased in 10 years• Developed several delivery and collaboration tools

Our Immediate Past

• ECOP launched strategic planning effort in 2014 to define new role; approved by vote of Directors in fall 2014

• Voluntary membership based model• Independent eXtension Foundation; board elected regionally• Benefits based on level of membership

• Premium: pay 75% of prior assessment• Basic: pay 60% of prior assessment• Non member: pay nothing• Specified at https://extension.org/membership/extension-benefits/

•2016 Membership: 37 premium, 20 basic

• Task force being led by Dean Herzfeld• Central repository of resources for use by Extension pesticide safety educators• Central “one stop” site to access pesticide safety education offerings throughout CES• eXtension Role:

• Provide platform for educational delivery as needed or preferred• Provide one-stop shopping site with course catalog & sales when requested
